Smile, Donghae Episode 6 synopsis/recap/summary

Ji Chang WookWe start back where we left off from episode 5. Donghae opens the door only to be greeted by an angry Bongi who immediately launches a water balloon at his face. Donghae is stunned and angry and asks what she is doing. Bongi asks how he feels and says that he did something much worse to her and then tosses a second balloon in his face. Both Anna and Donghae are trying to figure out just what is going on. Bongi turns and leaves, but Donghae runs after her and demands to know what is going on and Bongi replies again that she was fired. Donghae doesn’t understand so Bongi explains and uses the English word. Donghae is shocked – he can’t believe the hotel went and fired her so fast. He admits that he didn’t talk to the hotel as of yet due to being busy, but he had planned to take care of it before Bongi could get fired. Bongi is livid that he forgot as she explained her circumstances and how she badly needed to keep her job. Yes, it was important, but Donghae really was busy and had a lot of things he was going through as well. Poor Bongi isn’t the only one suffering.

Outside the hotel, Saewa is still in shock after learning Do Jin’s identity from the police and then confirming it with the hotel employee. She even asks again if the employee is certain that Do Jin is really the vice manager. She is told again that he is. Shock of shocks, Saewa leaves! She is going to stand Do Jin up, but she recalls all of the things he did and in trying to figure out what he is up to, decides to head back to the hotel to meet him. Donghae returns back to the room, feeling terrible. His mom is busy trying to clean up the watery mess and quickly leaps to her feet to give him dry towels to wipe himself dry with. Anna asks why did Bongi do such a thing – is she mad? Donghae doesn’t answer and just says its nothing. Anna then tells him to be good to Bongi as she is kind. Donghae immediately replies that Bongi isn’t kind and anyone who gets his mother sick is a bad person. Anna recounts all of the nice things Bongi has done for her, plus she is Saewa’s friend. Speaking of Saewa, Anna wants to know when she is coming to see her as she wants to give Saewa her mother’s wedding dress. This brings up the whole breakup issue that Donghae doesn’t want to think about.

Lee Jang Woo, Park Jung AhDo Jin waits in the bar and calls Saewa asking where she is. He is surprised to turn around and have Saewa demand her car keys back. Do Jin is pleased that she came to meet him, on time, after what he did. Saewa wants to know why he’s doing what he’s doing and Do Jin says that once a man finds what he’s been looking for, they don’t let anything stop them. He then tells Saewa that she is the woman he’s always been looking for. Saewa then says that the doesn’t know her and Do Jin begins to list all the problems with her car, which also leads to knowledge of her personality. Saewa then asks where her car is and Do Jin takes her to the garage where it is back in the spot where she initially left it. Do Jin apologizes for unintentionally offending her, he just had her car taken in for an inspection to ensure her safety. Ah, Do Jin. I do like him. If he actually wasn’t a nice guy, I would feel even worse for Donghae, but at least if Saewa dumps Donghae for Do Jin, his rival is a good person deep down. Saewa, not knowing what to think, says it is okay as she has gotten her car back. She goes to leave, but Do Jin reminds her that he only agreed to give the keys back if she buys him dinner. They go to a nice restaurant where Saewa notices the preferential treatment Do Jin tries to wave off. Saewa says he must make quite a bit of money as a bartender and he confesses he isn’t really a bartender, although he does work at the hotel. He officially introduces himself as Kim Do Jin expecting Saewa to recall the donation he made as her fan, but Saewa feigns ignorance even though she already figured out the two were one and the same. Saewa comments on his common name and he laughs, saying he will have to leave a better impression for her to remember a man with such a name. What game is Saewa playing? Why won’t Do Jin immediately confess who he really is now?

Smile, Donghae episode 6Back at the Lee house, Sun Ok recalls her fight with Sool Nyeo and it gets her fired up again. She tears the room apart looking for the savings book in order to repay Sool Nyeo. Looks like she’ll discover Kang Jae’s secret a little earlier than expected. Meanwhile, Seol Nyeo is giving herself a facial and complaining about Sun Ok’s temper. She is unhappy that Sun Ok said such a think about Sae Young and cannot believe that Sun Ok will actually try to pay her back. Sun Ok calls Sool Nyeo for the bank account number and Sool Nyeo rattles it off so fast, I don’t know how Sun Ok could understand it. Sun Ok then hangs up on Sool Nyeo who hates the fact that Sun Ok always gets to do things first all the time – slam the door first, hang up the phone first. So Sool Nyeo calls her back with a deadline and Sun Ok angrily slams the phone down again and goes back searching for her savings book. Looks like Sool Nyeo’s childish revenge backfired. Unable to find the book, Sun Ok comes to the conclusion that they might have been robbed. Meanwhile, Pil Jae is trying to convince Kang Jae to wait before telling Sun Ok, but Kang Jae insists he will tell her now as Sun Ok will discover the money missing sooner or later. Pil Jae understands, but he knows his sister-in-law well. Sun Ok will jump to bad conclusions and will probably throw Kang Jae out of the house without even his shoes. Then out storms Sun Ok yelling that they’ve been robbed. Kang Jae quickly grabs a weapon and the two try to figure out what’s wrong. Sun Ok mentions the missing account book and Pil Jae says that no thief would come to their house for a bank account that had less than 10,000 in it. This makes sense to her, but then she wonders how Pil Jae knows the amount. Did he take it? Kang Jae confesses and Sun Ok goes ballistic. She tells him that he isn’t allowed to come back home until he can give her the money back. She spent years scrimping and saving just to get that meager amount. She goes back into her room and throws Pil Jae’s shoes into a bucket of water. Poor Pil Jae. Then in comes a drunk Bongi. Pil Jae scolds her for drinking and Kang Jae tells her its okay now that she’s an adult, but to just be careful. Oy. Bongi goes into bed where she sees recipes plastered over her ceiling. She turns over, crying and calling herself and idiot. Meanwhile, Kang Jae goes into their room to talk to Sun Ok who refuses to listen to reason and again demands the money back.

At the Kim house, Hye Sook and Joon arrive home after dropping the Jos off. Hye Sook confesses that Mal Sun asked her to help find Dongbaek. She doesn’t think she’ll be able to, but she’ll do what she can. Joon then replies that he is in broadcasting but has done nothing to help them in their search for Dongbaek. He feels bad about this. Hye Sook then broaches the subject about asking the Jos to move in with them. She would welcome the company and would like to take care of them as they are getting up their in age. Joon thinks about the plan and agrees. This actually surprises me as he is a cold man. Joon leaves and Hye Sook goes to hang up his coat. She takes things out of his pocket and notices tickets to a couples’ seminar on Jeju. Hye Sook is excited and goes into his office. Joon says she must be busy and Hye Sook agrees, but you can tell how happy she is just thinking about the Jeju trip. As soon as his wife leaves, Joon immediately calls someone and says to cancel his wife’s ticket as she is too busy to make it. How cruel! Hye Sook tells Do Jin to come early to her office as she and he have a lot of rearranging and work to do. Do Jin asks what is going on and Hye Sook happily mentions the Jeju trip. This surprises Do Jin, but he is happy for his mother as his parents haven’t been on a trip together since their honeymoon. Seriously? Why are these two still together? It appears that Hye Sook really loves her husband, but he seems to not care about her at all.

Lee Joo YeonSaewa gets back home and is again at a loss to figure out just what is going on with Do Jin. She looks at her phone and notices the missed calls from Donghae who is hard at work practicing. He thinks back to their days in New York when the were happy and lovey dovey and loses concentration, slamming into the wall. In spite of disappointing Saewa, he cannot bring himself to accept her plea for him to go on her show in search of his father. Back at the Yoon house, the family is having breakfast. Sae Young is happily eating her fill as she felt the babies move that morning. Sool Nyeo is unhappy with how little Saewa is eating and just how much her younger daughter is eating. Sool Nyeo brings up the pregnancy thing again after Saewa leaves, but Sae Young adamantly denies that anything like that is going on. After breakfast, Sae Young calls complaining about her suspicious mom asking her about going to an OB/Gyn clinic which worries Tae Hoon. He immediately wants to confess to her mom and beg forgiveness, but Sae Yong insists Sool Nyeo won’t be that nice and would probably set fire to Tae Hoon’s building. No, they cannot say anything until Tae Hoon successfully passes the bar exam. Sae Young then says that the babies said hello. Tae Hoon then worries that the stress is getting to her as the fetuses cannot talk. Sae Young then explains that she felt them move and Tae Hoon wistfully says he wishes he could feel them too. You know Sae Young is going to go see him so he can feel them move for himself. The whole time, Sool Nyeo is standing outside trying to overhear the conversation. She complains that she should have bought the cheap doors you could hear through versus these nice sturdy ones that she cannot hear through at all.

At the hotel, Hye Sook and Do Jin are planning a strategy about what to do in case the do find the missing Dongbaek. Hye Sook wants to make sure that no one can take the hotel away from her and Do Jin advises secretly buying up stocks until they are a majority shareholder. They are interrupted by the arrival of Donghae. Hye Sook asks after his mother and he replies that Anna is recovering and then broaches the subject of bringing Bongi back. They say that the decision is final and that they need to set and example. Donghae understands this, but really wishes for her to be brought back. He doesn’t really like Korea and would not want his time there at the hotel tarnished by the memory of getting Bongi fired. Hye Sook willingly agrees to this, surprising Do Jin. Really, she was so quick to fire her, but changed her mind so easily. Hye Sook tells Do Jin to review Bongi’s work performance and to rehire her if it is up to par.

Ji Chang WookBongi has packed up her things and is getting ready to leave. She is sad that she didn’t do her absolute best – she should have worked harder at the hotel. She puts down her things and turns to her friend and fellow chef Soon Ae to work hard to become the head chef since she no longer can. Donghae comes running up at this moment and says that he has something he needs Bongi to do. Bongi is angry that he is asking her to do something after getting her fired. Donghae says she must not have heard, but he’s in a hurry and tries to grab her and get her to go with him. Bongi shakes him off and gives him a hard kick to the shin when another chef and the head chef come and tell her the news that she has been unfired and is only suspended for a week. Bongi is ecstatic, but feels bad as she realized she kicked Donghae a little too soon when she learns that he asked the hotel to reconsider firing her. The angry Donghae gets up and asks if she did or did not say she would help him out if he got her job back.

At the studio, Saewa notices Kim Joon and quickly goes out of her way to appear to accidentally run into him. She greets him, compliments his style and pets his ego by saying he looks as if he could go on air anytime to deliver the news. Who knew Saewa would stoop so low as to suck up like that? Kim Joon wishes her luck as she show will start airing soon and says he will be watching her. Saewa’s happiness is short lived when she hears that PD Shin has gone to see Donghae. Saewa takes off running, hoping to catch him in time.

Back at the hotel, Donghae is making Bongi write up a contract. Bongi is not happy that she has to do this, but writes away. She is to help Donghae take care of Anna for the week she is suspended and help him get things ready to propose to Saewa. This shocks Bongi who asks if he will really propose and if they are really getting married. Donghae tells her to mind her own business and to keep writing. Bongi says she is Saewa’s friend and thus Donghae shouldn’t be treating her like that. Donghae says those are the initial terms and more will be added later. He leaves for practice threatening punitive punishment if she does anything bad to his mother. Bongi complains to Anna, who doesn’t really understand what Bongi means by calling him a “jerk” in Korean. At that moment, Donghae’s phone rings. He left it in the hotel room. Anna answers and is thrilled to hear Saewa’s voice. She asks when Saewa will come and see her and Saewa demands to know where Donghae is. Anna says he has left for practice already and goes to talk more, but Saewa unceremoniously hangs up on her.

Park Jung Ah, Do Ji Won, Ji Chang WookDonghae notices his phone is missing just as PD Shin approaches him. Shin introduces himself, baffling Donghae. Just as he is about to say he didn’t agree to do any such thing, Saewa rushes in and tells Shin to wait in a cafe near by while she talks to Donghae. Back in Anna’s room, Bongi puts a map of Seoul on the bed and asks where Anna wants to go. Anna says the map is too complicated and Bongi asks if there is any place Anna can think of. Anna thinks about it and mentions Namsan just as Saewa and Donghae come in. Anna is thrilled to see Saewa who is surprised to see Bongi there. She asks what Bongi is there for and Bongi can’t really explain the whole complicated situation and just says she is helping Donghae with Anna. Saewa then sends Bongi away and turns to ask Donghae to do the show one more time as her job is riding on the line. Donghae sticks to his guns and says he will not do it. Poor Anna is agitated that they are fighting. Saewa insists that if Donghae loves her, he will do this and Donghae insists his love for her and his unwillingness to go on TV to find his absentee father have nothing to do with each other. Donghae then gets a call from his coach meaning he has to leave. He apologizes to Saewa and says he will find a way to make it up to her. After he leaves, Anna tells Saewa not to be mad at Donghae and tries to get her to accept the dress. Saewa ignores her until Anna declares she will go on the show in Donghae’s stead to find James (Donghae’s father). This shocks Saewa, but you can see the wheels turning once more. If she does this behind Donghae’s back, will he ever forgive her? End episode.

Smile, Donghae Episode 5 synopsis/recap/summary

Horrified that Donghae wants to have her fired, Bongi immediately butts in and apologizes. Donghae wants to know why and is livid to find out that Bongi was the one who almost killed his mother. Do Jin tells Bongi to stay out of it and to return to the hotel and await further word. He then turns to Donghae and says that he cannot immediately fire her. He understands that Donghae is upset, but it is still up to the hotel to decide what will happen to the employee who made the mistake. Do Jin will, however, tell the CEO Donghae’s request. At that moment Anna wakes up and reaches out to her son. Donghae is happy that his mother is awake and quickly holds her hand. Anna requests to leave the hospital immediately, but Donghae refuses to take her out until the hospital says that she is good to go.

Smile, Donghae episode 5Back at the hotel, Bongi awaits in the locker room, totally dejected. Her fellow chefs cannot believe the amount of bad luck Bongi is having. First her fiance dumps her just before their wedding and now her job is in jeopardy and she almost killed a guest. The head chef walks in and says that Bongi is suspended until further notice. Bongi asks how she can keep her job as she really needs it. The head chef tells her the only thing that she can do is beg the family for mercy in the hopes they will intervene with management so that she does not get fired. Bongi immediately springs to her feet and heads off to find Donghae and Anna to plead once more to save her job.

Hye Sook asks if Anna is all right and Do Jin replies that she is and Donghae has taken her back to her room after she was discharged from the hospital. Do Jin also reports that Donghae refused to accept the best suite as an apology. Hye Sook asks how such a thing can happen and Do Jin then reveals that Donghae wants Bongi fired. Meanwhile, Donghae is piggybacking Anna back to her room when Bongi rushes up and asks if Anna’s okay before apologizing and begging for Donghae to intervene on her behalf. Donghae doesn’t want to and Bongi mentions that Saewa wouldn’t like it if he helped get Bongi fired. Donghae then mentions that Bongi requested money from him. Bongi says that she was only going to ask for the hospital fees and nothing more. Donghae then brings up about her hounding him for money only that morning. Bongi begins to say she was really only there because Saewa didn’t go home the other night, but stops herself. Donghae then ignores her and gets Anna safely into the room and into bed. Anna wants to forgive and help Bongi, but Donghae refuses saying that Bongi as a cook needs to learn a lesson. Bongi does not give up, however, and keeps pounding on their door and calling their names until a frustrated Donghae opens the door.

Do Ji Won, Ji Chang Woo, Oh Ji EunBongi forces her way in and rushes into the room and goes down on her knees immediately. This surprises both Anna and Donghae (who is still mad at Bongi). Bongi begins begging them to not request her being fired as she desperately needs this job. She reveals her family’s debt and how they are dependent on her income and when that doesn’t look like enough to soften Donghae up (though it was more than enough for Anna), Bongi then mentions how her fiance just dumped her. She cannot be without a job on top of everything else that has happened. Her being dumped hurt her family enough and her being fired would just add to their stress. Donghae finally breaks down and agrees to speak to management about Bongi only being suspended versus fired. Bongi thanks them and apologizes to Donghae for ever thinking that he wasn’t a nice man. Bongi has even agreed to watch Anna should Donghae ever need a “babysitter” (said in nicer terms, though). A happy Bongi leaves the room, grateful, and Anna seems happy to have things work out nicely as well while Donghae just seems exasperated.

Back in Hye Sook’s office, Do Jin believes they should just suspend Bongi and before he can say more, his mother orders him to fire her. This surprises Do Jin. Hye Sook says this is the first time such a thing happened in her five years as CEO and they need to set an example to other employees so that such an incident does not occur again. Do Jin agrees to start the process and Hye Sook complains that such a thing happened just before Pil Yong was set to leave. So, if the incident occurred after he left, would that have made her go easier on Bongi?

Kim Sung Won, Jung Young SookPil Yong is on his way to see Donghae and Anna with Mal Sun. Thanks to Anna’s age and her peanut allergy, Mal Sun thinks that Anna could be Dongbaek. Pil Yong warns his wife that it is probably all just a coincidence, but they decide to see for themselves. They knock and Pil Yong reveals that they found his mother. Donghae thanks them and says she is well and sleeping. They begin to ask personal questions and Donghae wonders what they want. They ask to come in for a short while to talk and Donghae reluctantly agrees. It is really strained and awkward. Pil Yong asks after Anna, Donghae’s father, and Donghae says such questions are much to personal. Mal Sun then asks after Donghae’s grandparents. Donghae replies that they were killed in a car accident eight years ago. This greatly disappoints the couple who did have a little spark of hope that they may have found their daughter. At this point I did wonder why Donghae never mentioned the adoption part, but then again, the Jos never really explained why they were asking about such information. Had he known, maybe they could have uncovered the truth.

While the Jos are talking to Donghae, Kim Joon sees Saewa rushing into work after leaving her coworkers hanging for an hour. Kim Joon calls her into his office and completely balls her out for her unprofessional attitude. Poor Saewa doesn’t know what to say. She wasn’t late because she didn’t care for the assignment (although she doesn’t really), but because Donghae had her purse, her cell, and Do Jin had her car and keys – but she can’t tell him that. Kim Joon advises her to quit if that is how she is going to behave and goes to leave to go to the hotel to take the Jos to the airport. Saewa stops him and says that she was only late because she was talking to a Korean American speed skater that her PD wants on the show. It took her a long time, but she finally got him to agree. Kim Joon asks if its really true and Saewa replies that she never lies about work (well, she just did). Kim Joon says that next time Saewa should call and not leave her coworkers hanging and he also tells her that he will be keeping an eye on her. Not good at all. First she earned good attention and now he is watching to see what kind of mistakes she will make and if she is really worthy of being an announcer. Anna goes back to her office concerned about her lie, knowing that it is something Donghae would never do. What will happen now?

Ji Chang Wook, Park Jung AhAs the Jos head off disappointed, Donghae gets a call from an unhappy Saewa. Pil Yong tells his wife the allergy really was just a coincidence. Donghae immediately apologizes as he was just frantic after hearing his mother was in the hospital. Donghae then says he is relieved that Saewa got back to work okay and then tells her not to worry about Anna (don’t worry, I doubt she spared one second to worry about her fiance’s mother’s health given her attitude towards her future in-law). Saewa says she urgently needs to see him, but Donghae can’t as he has practice to attend. The furious Saewa then says she’ll meet him after practice and he better not forget her purse. Donghae hurriedly says he can’t leave Anna alone for too long, so can’t Saewa come to the room. Getting angrier, Saewa again points out that this is Korea and not America so she cannot be seen coming and going to his room. She then asks why Donghae never thinks of Saewa before Anna. Donghae comprises and says he’ll meet her at the cafe by the hotel. Saewa agrees to this and hangs up.

At the salon, Sun Ok thinks back to seeing Sae Young outside the OB/Gyn office and believes that she did not see wrong. Sool Nyeo comes in and demands an iced coffee and Sun Ok decides to ask if Sae Young is okay. Sool Nyeo wants to know why she is asking after her youngest daughter all of a sudden and Sun Ok says she believes she saw Sae Young outside of an OB/Gyn clinic. Sool Nyeo immediately jumps to the defensive. She can’t believe that Sun Ok would insinuate her daughter is pregnant. Sun Ok then mentions how Sae Young is different from Saewa and always dated older men. Sool Nyeo says there’s nothing wrong with getting dating experience and the two friends devolve into a screaming match again. Sun Ok reminds Sool Nyeo that she helped her out when she was poor and even loaned her the money to buy the salon. Sool Nyeo then interjects that she gave just as much. She helped Sun Ok get her current house and has even loaned her money. Sun Ok then says she will go to the bank and pay her back as soon as possible and leaves. Sool Nyeo sits down on the rag Sun Ok was cleaning with and wonders if Sae Young has really gotten herself into trouble.

Meanwhile, Sae Young and Tae Hoon are out on a date. They are in a music store where Sae Young complains the classical music is putting her to sleep. She then excitedly tells Tae Hoon that babies love the sound of drumbeats as it reminds them of their mother’s heartbeat. Thus it makes the babies feel at peace. Tae Hoon then suggests buying a few drum CDs. Sae Young says no as she believes it will be better if she plays for the babies herself. Tae Hoon says it is an excellent idea as Sae Young is a Korean dance major. Sae Young says it also works as she can beat the drum whenever her mom or sister upsets or nags her.

Lee Joo YeonSool Nyeo returns home to find out the truth and hears the beat of a drum. Sae Young finishes her drum playing and rubs her stomach, hoping the babies come out intelligent. She doesn’t want them to end up like her as she is sure she lost intelligence from inhaling coal dust when she was younger. Sool Nyeo burts into Sae Young’s room and seed her daughter dressed in her dance outfit, beating a drum. Sool Nyeo is surprised as Sae Young always said she never wanted to touch the drum and the nervous Sae Young says it is because she should try out everything. Sool Nyeo asks if she is certain and the annoyed Sae Young asks if her mom will question everything her kids do as well. This sets off alarm bells for Sool Nyeo who asks what Sae Young means. Sae Young says she plans on having kids one day and wonders if her mom will do such a thing to them. This relieves Sool Nyeo a little. Sae Young then inches out of the room saying she needs to shower (wanting to leave before she accidentally spills the beans). After Sae Young leaves, Sool Nyeo tries to look at her phone with no luck.

Kang Jae goes to the police station to talk to Pil Jae. He was going to leave without talking, but Pil Jae knew his elder brother had something to say and the two go out for coffee. Kang Jae reveals that he wants to become independent and and sell his own cabbage. He can’t buy the land the cabbage grows on, but he can buy the cabbages and sell them himself. Kang Jae then says that he is short the money he needs for this start up. Pil Jae asks how much and finds out Kang Jae is 3,000 short. Pil Jae says that he will gladly loan his brother the money even if he needs to take out a loan with his credit card. Kang Jae is both thankful and apologetic towards his little brother who moved in with them and who has loaned them money before instead of saving for a house for him and his own daughter. Pil Jae doesn’t care as he loves his big brother and wants to help. Pil Jae asks where Kang Jae is getting the rest of the money. Kang Jae replies that he has a savings account that he plans on cashing in before it matures. It was originally done to repay friends’ money whom he owed, but he is using it for this instead in hopes that this way he will be able to pay them back faster. Pil Jae is in awe that his brother is cashing out the savings, but wonders what his sister-in-law will think and you know Kang Jae is worried about how Sun Ok will react as well.

Back at the hotel, Bongi finds out that she has been fired. She is mystified as Donghae promised to talk to management about keeping her. The head chef says that Donghae must not have talked to them yet and thus they decided to fire her. The desperate and angry Bongi leaves the kitchen wondering how Donghae could promise to talk to her boss and then not follow through. She is particularly upset because she even got on her knees to beg him. She goes to Anna’s room where she is informed that Donghae has left for practice.

Park Jung Ah, Ji Chang WookMeanwhile, Donghae is at the cafe waiting for Saewa with her purse. He is happy to see her, but his smile fades when he sees Saewa’s dark expression. They order coffee and Donghae once again apologizes for abandoning Saewa on the boat, but he was out of his head with worry as Saewa knows how bad his mother’s peanut allergy is. This doesn’t do anything to appease Saewa’s anger. Why? He’s done it many times when they lived in New York as well. Donghae apologizes again and says he will do anything to make Saewa happy (you NEVER say that as that usually means the other person will take advantage of you or propose the one thing that you absolutely cannot do). Saewa then asks for a favor. Here it comes! Donghae asks what it is and Saewa explains about the program. Donghae immediately refuses. He has no intention of going on the program to find a father he cares nothing about. Did it occur to him to go on the show to find his mom’s parents’ instead? This infuriates Saewa as she really needs Donghae to do the program. She then rails about how she needs someone who can help her career along. She tells Donghae that he knows how hard she worked to get where she is today. Saewa also says she has never felt good enough since her father died when she was three and before Sae Young was even born (I take that to mean Sool Nyeo was pregnant when he died). This job is Saewa’s everything and she wants to do well to prove that she is not lacking. Given how her mother treats her, you have to wonder just why Saewa thinks this way? Donghae also reiterates with he really does love her – why else would he try so hard to make the US national team just to come to Korea (a country he hates – probably on the principle of what happened with his father). This isn’t enough for Saewa. She gets up and says she is sick of him putting Anna before her and that she needs a man who can support and help her dream. Meaning? Donghae was dumped!

The angry Saewa gets in a cab and immediately calls Do Jin asking to meet. Do Jin is pleasantly surprised to hear from her, but says he is busy and will meet her for dinner as promised. This annoys Saewa who decides to take matters into her own hands. She doesn’t need him to get into her car. She goes to the parking garage at the hotel on her phone with the insurance (or some such company) saying she lost her keys and is locked out of her car. However, when she reaches the parking spot, her car is gone! She cannot believe that he even took her car somewhere. So Saewa turns around and calls the police. She doesn’t know Do Jin’s name, but has his phone number and says that he is a bartender at Camellia who stole her car. While Do Jin’s method is not the best, I am not sure I would have immediately called the cops. Maybe if I was angry enough.

Oh Ji EunThe Kims got to see the Jos off and Pil Yong warns Kim Joon and Do Jin to be good to Hye Sook and not make her cry or they will have to deal with him. The two Kim men promise not to and the quintet head off. Meanwhile, a depressed and angry Bongi is getting drunk over her job less and Donghae’s failed promise. She complains about him lying and avoiding her calls. She tries calling him again and an anxious Donghae answers his phone hoping it is Saewa only to be disappointed when he realizes it is Bongi who demands to know why he’s avoiding her calls. Donghae doesn’t know what she is talking about and she complains about being fired. Donghae asks what and Bongi replies again fired – do you know what that means. The frustrated Donghae, who knows she’s been drinking, hangs up saying he doesn’t have the time to deal with whatever problem she has. An upset Bongi sees a kid with a balloon and announces that Donghae is dead when she sees him. What is she planning?

Donghae heads into the hotel where he notices the Jos’ big sendoff. Just as he enters the elevator, Mal Sun looks back. Grandmotherly instinct? Or perhaps she is looking back and still wondering if there might be some chance Anna is her Dongbaek? Outside the hotel, Saewa gets a call from the police and finds out the phone number she gave them belongs to Kim Do Jin, vice president of the Camilla Hotel. Saewa is shocked. She asks if the policeman is certain and hangs up. She notices Do Jin with the Jos and asks a passing employee who he is and the employee replies the same as the cop. Saewa wonders just what is going on at the same time I am sure another part of her is calculating how he could be of use to her.Ji Chang Wook

Donghae is back in his room trying to get a hold of Saewa to try and mend their relationship which he doesn’t think should be over just because he refused her request. Anna asks if Saewa is mad when an angry Bongi knocks on the door pretending to be room service. Donghae says they didn’t order anything, but Bongi insists it is the right room. Donghae opens the door and is surprised/annoyed to find Bongi there. Bongi immediately launches a water balloon point blank in his face and that is where we end the episode. How…mature. But a lot less messier than other forms of revenge. (source: http://asianaddictsannon.wordpress.com/)

Smile, Donghae Episode 4 synopsis/recap/summary

The excited Donghae picks up the fleeing Saewa and twirls her around. Our uptight and nervous Saewa is shocked to see Donghae after just parting ways with Do Jin (in a hotel no less even though nothing happened :P ). Not to mention, if anyone should see her in a hotel with Donghae (or Do Jin), she could get in trouble since she is an announcer. Donghae finally puts Saewa down while Bongi watches from around the corner. Donghae asks if Saewa came to see him and she quickly lies and says that she has. He then asks if she has seen Anna. Saewa replies that she hasn’t yet met with his mother and Donghae grabs her hand to take her to see Anna, but Saewa begs off saying that she needs to hurry and get to work. Donghae complains that Saewa has to leave after just meeting him for the first time in 8 months. Saewa apologizes and says she’ll call him after work. Donghae says he’ll walk her to the car, but Saewa refuses saying she can’t afford to let anyone see her leaving a hotel with a man since she is in the media. She goes to the elevator, but then turns around and quickly hugs and kisses Donghae’s cheek saying how much she missed him before leaving, which makes Donghae brighten right up. They leave each other with their “I Love Yous.”

Bongi who has watched it all in confusion, tries to escape when Donghae comes her way, but Donghae sees her anyways. He demands to know what she is doing at the hotel so early in the morning for and Bongi, not wanting to say the real reason was to find Saewa who didn’t go home the night before, says she came to demand the compensation for her injured wrist. This annoys Donghae even more and he says that once che gives him an estimate, then he will willingly pay the damages for her. Poor Bongi is not getting a very good reputation in front of Donghae. Will that change anytime soon? Poor Bongi is frustrated that Donghae sees her in such a poor light, but how can she tell him the t ruth. Bongi then wonders what Saewa was doing with Do Jin the hotel’s Vice Manager. She then recalls that she has to quickly get to work, so she unwraps her wrist so that the head chef won’t expect anything is wrong.

Back in his office, Do Jin recalls Saewa’s unjustified slap and actually thinks it means that she is perfect for him! Well, It does mean that she isn’t to be taken lightly, but still. One slap and it just confirms she’s the right woman? Will he still think that way when he finds out that Saewa will do whatever it takes to succeed – even dating him? (Conjecture at this point, but I do believe that is what she will do – sacrifice her relationship with Donghae to be with Do Jin to advance her career.) Do Jin then feels around in his pockets and finds Saewa’s car key. He then calls Saewa who is looking through her purse in the parking garage and tells her to take the taxi he’s called to the back gates. He will return her car keys to her later that night. Saewa is getting more annoyed by Do Jin. She cannot believe he took the liberty of looking up her cell number and for holiding her keys hostage. He is original and yet not at the same time. In the 2004 drama Stained Glass Yuichi made sure Ji Soo would meet him again by giving her a very expensive watch that was precious to him since it was a graduation gift from his beloved mother. Thus, Ji Soo had no choice but to meet him one more time to at least return the watch.

Park Hae Mi, Kim Yoo SukBack at the police station, Sool Nyeo finally wakes up to Pil Jae trying to hand her a glass of water. She is enamored at first, but then remembers the reason why she arrived at the police station. She accidentally spills water down the front of Pil Jae’s pants as she jumps up. Sool Nyeo then frantically tries to wipe them dry (lol, always a funny gag even though it is done so often). Pil Jae tells her to forget it and asks what she means that her daughter is missing. Sool Nyeo then tells him that Saewa never returned home the night before and that she has never done something like that before. This excites Pil Jae who thinks it might be a kidnapping, which freaks Sool Nyeo out. Pil Jae then leaves to go get the kidnapping paperwork and Saewa finally calls her mother. She lies saying she was in a meeting all night and hangs up. Sool Nyeo is relieved that Saewa is all right, but now faces the embarrassment of having to face Pil Jae with the truth. Sool Nyeo tries to sneak out, but Pil Jae catches her in the act and she tells him that she is leaving and doesn’t need his help after all. Pil Jae thinks its because the kidnappers finally contacted her. He puts his arm around her and tells her that she can trust him and Sool Nyeo tells him that Saewa called her and is safe. This annoys Pil Jae and Sool Nyeo slinks out of the station. She turns around and says she wishes she could trade places with Pil Jae’s wife. Omo. Talk about a heavy crush.

Back at the Lee house, Sun Ok is looking through the classified ads when her husband comes in to tell her to hurry up so he can drop her off at the salon before he goes to work. Kang Jae is not happy to see his wife going through the classifieds. He scolds her and tells her not to. Sun Ok wishes to stand resolute and take on more responsibility for clearing up the debt. Kang Jae tells her that there is only $30,000 left to pay and he will take care of it himself. Sun Ok wants to know how, but Kang Jae just states that he has a plan and begs her to trust him and to not wear herself out by working multiple part-time jobs. Sun Ok is touched by his concern, but still wonders what he has up his sleeve. She quickly goes after him so that he can drop her off at Sool Nyeo’s for work.

At the salon, Sool Nyeo is fantasizing about Pil Jae and wondering where she has seen him before (she apparently can’t recall that he is Sun Ok’s brother-in-law). Her fantasizing is interrupted by the arrival of Sun Ok who is cleaning Sool Nyeo’s office. Soll Nyeo complains that Sun Ok’s timing is awful and Sun Ok complains about Sool Nyeo sitting around instead of actually working. Sool Nyeo then says running a salon is harder than Sun Ok thinks, but if she thinks she can do better, than open her own and leave Sool Nyeo be. Sun Ok says she could and Sool Nyeo then says how hard a time she had when she first started out. She only got in the salon business because a fortune teller told her that she would earn money with scissors in her hands or something like that. Sool Nyeo then wonders what happened to that fortune teller as she was quite accurate and she would love to have Saewa’s fortune done. Sun Ok says that she knows of a fortune teller and the two women decide to go out and see what they can find out about their kids (and Sool Nyeo hopes to figure out something about her mystery man as well).

Donghae has cleaned himself up nicely and his brightly humming. When he turns around his mom is sitting on the bed smiling happily at his good mood. Donghae then apologizes for leaving his mom alone, but he hasn’t seen Saewa in so long and wants to go out on a date with her. He then tells Anna to be good and wait for him and he will bring her back lots of yummy snacks. Anna agrees and Donghae orders room service for her. Anna initially refuses as she is worried it is too expensive, but Donghae reassures her that he earned a lot of money in the last few months in order to treat her well. This make Anna happy and she excitedly looks through the menu and orders. Donghae calls in the order and tells the staff to make sure everything is peanut free for Anna.

Oh Ji EunIn the kitchen, Bongi is having a hard time with her cooking duties with her bad wrist and she is also worried about what is going on with Saewa, Do Jin and Donghae. She tells herself to stop worrying over someone else’s love life and keeps whipping the eggs. Her friend comes over and asks if she can help, but Bongi says she is fine and asks if the porridge is done. Her friend asks how Bongi can worry about the porridge when Bongi’s life is ruined. How could such a thing happen on the day Bongi was to receive her wedding gifts? Bongi says that she is fine and is, in fact, swearing off men. She is going to concentrate on her career and work hard until she can rise to be the head chef at the hotel. Her friend needs an emergency bathroom break, so Bongi looks after the porridge. She thinks it is too thin and adds peanuts to thicken it. Uh-oh, but let’s face it – from the moment it was said that Anna was allergic, you knew something was going to happen that involved peanuts in some way, shape or form.

Pil Yong and Mal Sun will be leaving for the states again shortly and thus have Hye Sook take them all over the hotel so they can see how everything is going. In one room, the drain is stopped up and Pil Yong investigates the cause himself and tells the staff to make sure that the take special care in cleaning the bathrooms for each guest. Hye Sook says he doesn’t have to do that anymore and Mal Sun smiles and says that he likes to still do such things.

At the station, Kim Jun tells Saewa that she will be the new host of the series reuniting families that her friend and colleague told her about in episode one. Saewa is less than thrilled, needless to say, but she tries to hide her discontent with the assignment. After she leaves, the manager says that Saewa is good, but she must feel disheartened about not getting the reporter position. Kim Jun says the other girl was right for the job as her sense of timing is good. Saewa is a quick thinker, but has no sense of pacing. With her new assignment, she will learn more and in a year or so, might be ready for the reporting job. So it looks like it had nothing to do with that girl’s father after all. Saewa meets with her friend who tells her about the meeting for the show and asks her about Karl Laker. Saewa lies and says she hasn’t managed to meet up with him yet and her friend again encourages her to try and get him on the show. Saewa then hears she has a guest. She goes to the lobby where Donghae stands playing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” on his violin. Needless to say, he is attracting quite a bit of attention. Back at the hotel, Anna happily tucks into her black sesame porridge. She starts coughing a little, but soon can’t breathe at all. She calls for her son, for help.

Kim Sung Won, Jung Young Sook, Do Ji WonBack at the station, Saewa looks unhappy at first, but then becomes mesmerized in the playing. When Donghae finishes, she has a big smile, which falls away as she recalls exactly where they are. She quickly pulls Donghae away from the staring eyes. She thanks him for playing the violin as he did that to cheer her up, but also tells him he can never come to her work like that again or people will start to talk. She and Donghae then go out to eat for lunch. Meanwhile, Anna then gets up to get her bag which has her EpiPen (emergency injection for food allergies). She finds it, but drops it as she gets progressively worse. Hye Sook also explains about the big plans and renovations to which Pil Yong is not entirely thrilled about. He doesn’t believe such grandiose schemes are necessary as long as you provide excellent customer service and the like, but Hye Sook believes the grand plans are good plans (they aren’t necessarily bad – just that such schemes can blind you and in the end cost more than you thought they would). She keeps calling for Donghae and for help and manages to open her door. Pil Yong and Mal Sun had just left Hye Sook to finish looking around the hotel at their leisure when the see the collapsed Anna. They quickly get staff to help her and when they go into her room, they see the porridge and think that it has something to do with the food.

Sun Ok and Sool Nyeo arrive at the fortune teller only to be told that they can look no farther than each other for their future in laws. According to the fortune teller Tae Hoon and Sae Young are a perfect match for one another. Sool Nyeo takes it as an insult as does Sun Ok – both believing that their children are better and shouldn’t be saddled with the other’s. The fortune teller says there is nothing they can do as that relationship is fated – already written in the stars. Sun Ok leaves while Sool Nyeo tries to find out about Saewa or her own budding attraction to Pil Jae. The fortune teller says she is only interested in young people and then accuses Sool Nyeo of having an affair. Meanwhile, Sae Young and Tae Hoon are at the doctor’s. Apparently Sae Young was having stomach pains in class and panicked. Tae Hoon took her to the doctor, but everything was thankfully fine. Their twins are healthy and well. Apparently Sae Young had just overeaten. Tae Hoon says he knows the twins ask for a lot of food and energy, but Sae Young needs to be careful with her own health and not overeat. Sae Young promises to be more careful in the future and goes to wait for Tae Hoon outside. Sun Ok sees Sae Young as she passes by in the bus, but thinks she must be mistaken. Why would Sae Young be outside such a place?

Hye Sook hears about Anna collapsing and asks that her traveling companion be notified immediately and Do Jin is sent to deal with the matter as well. The kitchen is all abuzz with the news that a guest collapsed after eating and Bongi is horrified to learn it was the the porridge she helped her friend make. She added the peanuts without checking the order first. She is even more horrified when she recognizes the room number and realizes it is Anna who collapsed. Do Jin comes down to the kitchen where Bongi confesses. He tells her to go home as she is suspended until further notice. Things are just not going well for poor Bongi – but in this case, it really is mostly her own fault for not checking the order first.

Donghae and Saewa arrive just in time for a ferry to take off. Saewa hands him her bag and goes to the restroom and in that time, Donghae receives the call about Anna being rushed to the ER. He hesitates for an instance but jumps ship. Saewa comes back to find Donghae gone and the ship had just left shore. Donghae calls that his mom is in the hospital and rushes off and Saewa is even more upset to realize that Donghae still has her bag as well.

Ji Chang Wook, Lee Jang Woo

At the hospital, Bongi asks after Anna and is relieved to hear that she is doing all right. Donghae comes rushing in and Bongi goes to apologize, but is knocked down in his rush to see his mother. In the room, Donghae goes up to Anna and asks what happened to Do Jin. Do Jin apologizes to Donghae for the gross oversight and says that the Camellia will pay the hospital fees and Anna will stay free of charge as well. Back at the hotel, Pil Yong and Mal Sun wonder if Anna is doing better now and Mal Sun recalls that Dong Baek (their missing daughter) was allergic to peanuts as well. She remembers how frantic they were when she stopped breathing. Mal Sun then says that Dong Baek would be about Anna’s age by now. They start putting two and two together. Back at the hospital, Donghae is upset by what he feels is not enough on the hotel’s side as his mother almost died, but what can the hotel do other than what they are already doing? Bongi comes in at this and hears Donghae request that the chef who made the porridge be fired. Yeah. What a way to end the episode. (source: http://asianaddictsannon.wordpress.com/)

Smile, Donghae Episode 3 synopsis/recap/summary

Episode summary: Bongi picks herself up off the bus floor and demands to know who Donghae is. He replies that Anna is his mother and Bongi puts two and two together – this must be Karl Laker. Bongi then says Saewa sent her to pick up Anna and Donghae is surprised and sorry for treating her so badly. The three get off the bus and Donghae scolds Bongi for not telling him sooner (when did she have a chance?). It turns out that during the fall, Bongi hurt her wrist and she is not happy (can’t blame her for that).

Lee Jang WooBack at the Camellia Hotel, Do Jin is still acting as bartender and Saewa asks if that is his job at the hotel. Do Jin replies that he works at the hotel, but not as a bartender. Oddly enough, he does not tell Saewa what his real job is. Guess he wants to be liked for himself. Good for Do Jin. Saewa demands to know what he wants with her and he gets straight to the point (which is a little shocking): Do Jin wishes to marry Saewa! This surprises and annoys Saewa who insists she’s not that easy (to get into bed or that easy to trick?). Saewa gets up to leave, but her fellow coworkers come in and she tries to hide by returning to her seat. However, she is spotted. Her coworkers tease her for drinking the bitterness of defeat and invite her to join the celebration of the coworker who got promoted in Saewa’s place. Saewa declines saying she is meeting someone, but her coworkers don’t believe her (even though it is true) and chide her sour grapes. Saewa congratulates the other girl and begs off again, saying she has to really meet someone. Saewa sits back down and keeps drinking, surprising Do Jin.

Ji Chang Wook, Do Ji WonThe Lakers and Bongi arrive at the hotel and Bongi demands reparations for her sprained wrist. She’s a cook after all, plus she can’t afford to pay the hospital fees nor take time off until her wrist heals. Bongi says she will let Karl off because he is Saewa’s friend, thus she won’t make him pay her emotional distress as well. Karl then tells Anna in English that Bongi is a money grubber. No, she isn’t, she is just in need of money to help pay off her family debts. Bongi knows he is saying something about her, but doesn’t know what so she yells at them to speak in Korean versus English. She tries calling Saewa, but can’t get through. Karl then asks where they are supposed to meet. Bongi doesn’t know, she was just told at the hotel. They go inside the Camellia and still can’t get a hold of Saewa. Karl sees his coach and asks Bongi to check his mother in as his coaches don’t know that he brought his mom along with him. He then leaves the two alone and Bongi watches in satisfaction as he gets scolded by his coach. Bongi says she hopes his coach kills him making Anna upset so Bongi has to keep her from rushing over and explain that Donghae isn’t in that much trouble, just a little.

Jung Young SookMeanwhile, Mal Sun has a dream that Dong Baek (her missing daughter) is searching for her in a field of tall grass. Mal Sun keeps calling out to Dong Baek, but the poor little girl can’t find her mother amidst the smoke and eventually falls and collapses. Mal Sun wakes up still reaching for her missing daughter. She calls Hye Sook and tells her about the dream. Since Hye Sook is a mother, she thinks she will understand. Mal Sun believes that Dong Baek is out there and needs her still. She then enlists Hye Sook’s help in trying to locate her daughter. She and Pil Yong have done everything that they can think of for 40 years, but she believes that Hye Sook might have different approaches that might enable them to find Dong Baek faster.

Do Ji Won, Oh Ji EunBongi gets Anna safely checked into her room. Anna is happily unpacking and Bongi notices a wedding dress. Bongi asks who’s the beautiful dress is and Anna explains that it was her adopted mother’s. Anna plans on giving it to Saewa when she marries Donghae. This shocks Bongi who did not know that Saewa had such a relationship. Anna explains that Saewa lived with them in America for six years – she even taught Anna Korean. Still in shock, Bongi asks about the harmonica and gets her hand slapped away. Anna holds it to her chest and says that it is Donghae’s father’s. Bongi apologizes and gets a call from her mom saying Tae Hoon is home. Bongi excitedly goes to leave after telling Anna not to leave the room and to wait for Donghae. Before she leaves, Anna takes out the puzzle she worked on in the plane (a Disney Princess puzzle) and tells Bongi that she reminds her of one of the princesses. This flatters Bongi who thanks Anna who in return thanks Bongi for all of her help. Bongi bows and accidentally scatters the puzzle.

At the Lee home, they are happily grilling meat and eating. Pil Jae complains that he bought the meat and Tae Hoon is getting it all. Tae Hoon tells his mother to eat, too, but Sun Ok insists she is happy just watching her son eat. Bongi comes in and smells the meet and warns her family to watch out as she is the meat vanquisher. Tae Hoon apologizes for not doing his filial duty and helping out the family just so he can study. His family tells him not to worry and that everything is okay. He should just concentrate on his exams. This just makes him feel even more guilty because he has been secretly dating Sae Young and now she is pregnant with twins. And thus more apologizing. The family is unhappy to see Bongi’s hurt wrist, but she says she is okay and that she will still go out and earn money. Sun Ok then scolds her daughter for mentioning money and says that she will take on whatever jobs are necessary so Bongi doesn’t have to work so hard. More of a guilt-trip for Tae Hoon. Sun Ok wraps up some Kimchi for Tae Hoon and Bongi tells her mother that she is happy to see her smiling after so long.

At the Yoon family house, pregnant Sae Young is eating in the kitchen when Sool Nyeo comes out and complains about her daughter eating again so soon after dinner. Sae Young says it is the season of plenty, but Sool Nyeo ignores this and scolds Sae Young for eating food especially bought for Saewa. This sets Sae Young off, along with her mother’s comment about her stomach making here look five months pregnant (can’t say that I see it, because it looks like her stomach is still flat). Sae Young finally storms off. Good thing she held her cool and didn’t tell her mother that she was correct as sometimes happens in dramas. Tae Hoon gets a call from Sae Young saying she’s at his room and he quickly makes excuses to go see her, forgetting his kimchi so Sun Ok goes after him. Tae Hoon gets to his place and sees Sae Young on the floor eating. She complains that she can’t eat like she wants at home and that she is terrified of giving birth. Tae Hoon says she was fine this morning and Sae Young explains that she is pregnant so she is given to mood wings. Then comes Sun Ok and Tae Hoon and Sae Young quickly hide Sae Young and her food in the wardrobe. Sun Ok delivers the kimchi and notices the sonogram. Tae Hoon quickly grabs it and throws it out telling his mom it is nothing. Sun Ok tells him to concentrate on his exam which is two weeks away and tells him that she knows he can do it. she leaves and Tae Hoon quickly takes the sonogram out of the trash and uncrumples it before letting Sae Young out of the wardrobe. She was eating away in there and tells him that he must pass the bar or else they are dead. Outside the apartment, Sun Ok prays for Tae Hoon’s success.

Back at the Camellia, a drunk Saewa goes to head home but makes it as far as her car before passing out. A worried Do Jin follows her and can’t get her to wake up. He notices the people passing by and then looks through Saewa’s purse. Her cell is dead and he sees the cold medicine. He then takes her up to a room where he takes off her shoes and sweater and then leaves her alone. What a gentleman. Karl comes from evening practice where his mom massages his arms. He asks what Anna was doing and she said she was looking at Seoul. Anna wonders if James is out there infuriating Donghae. He yells at her to forget that man who abandoned them and goes to throw out the harmonica once again. Anna stops him and he tells her that he does not want a father. All he needs is his mother and Saewa. After Donghae leaves, Anna whispers that James did not abandon her – then what happened?

Hye Sook complains that Mal Sun won’t accept her fully and still looks for Dong Baek. Kim Jun then asks his wife what she really wants – to be considered Mal Sun’s daughter or to have the hotel. Hye Sook is mortified by this, but I think her husband’s question is a fair one. Is she upset because Mal Sun isn’t accepting her as a daughter or because finding Dong Baek could ruin her chances at gaining the hotel she helped Pil Yong build from the ground up?

Everyone is worried that Saewa did not return home. Poor Sool Nyeo is freaking out while Sae Young believes that it is probably nothing. Bongi finds out that Saewa didn’t go home and assumes she spent the night with Karl. Bongi tells Sae Young not to worry – she thinks she knows where Saewa is. Meanwhile, Sool Nyeo goes to report Saewa as missing and sees Pil Jae in butt-kicking action. She was knocked to the grown when an arestee tried to escape and she passes out when Pil Jae asks if she’s okay.

At the hotel, Saewa is peeved, thinking that Do Jin took advantage of her. She then slaps him and accuses him of getting her drunk. Do Jin stops her from hitting him again and says that he went through a lot just to help her save face. This shames and annoys Saewa when she learns about how he looked after her reputation by carrying her up several flights of stairs and privately getting her the room. She storms out as Bongi shows up to visit the Lakers and let Saewa know everyone is looking for her. Bongi is shocked to Saewa coming out of a differentTautan room with a man who is not Donghae. Do Jin tells Saewa to use a different set of elevators where there are less people and going to those elevators, Saewa meets Donghae. What will happen next?

Smile, Donghae Episode 2 synopsis/recap/summary

Episode summary: Anna stops Donghae from punching out the guy who was hitting on her. The man escapes and Donghae turns on Anna and asks his mother if she intentionally smiled at the man. Anna shakes her head and tells her son that she only smiled because she managed to finish the puzzle. Donghae then demands to know how she smiled and Anna shows him a bright smile. Donghae then gets angry at Anna for smiling like that as men will come on to her because of such a smile. Donghae then gets mad again when he sees her wearing the harmonica. He blames Anna’s beautiful smile for KJ leaving her. There is a spot of turbulence and Donghae holds onto his mother and then makes her swear that she will not smile at men and if she does smile, only to show four teeth instead of her bright, full-toothed smile. Anna promises. I know that Donghae is just worried that his mom will be hurt by men who don’t understand, but he was a little too harsh on Anna in that scene.

Meanwhile, Saewa explains Donghae’s background to her coworker. Anna’s parents were supposedly killed in a really bad storm and thus she was adopted out to the US, thus she has no family to find in Korea. We also learn that Donghae’s father is unknown except for the fact that he was a native Korean himself. And with what we learn about the Kim and Jo family – put two and two together. Makes you wonder if Pil Yong and Mal Sun will still like Kim Jun when the truth is revealed (if my guess is right that is).

At the hotel, the Kim family eats lunch with the Jo family. Do Jin is scolded for calling Pil Yong grandfather, but Pil Yong insists that it is okay, especially since it is only family in that room. Pil Yong and his wife look on Hye Sook as a surrogate daughter and Do Jin as their surrogate grandson. Apparently, one of the reasons for the lunch gathering is to decide upon the hotel succession. It looks like Hye Sook will officially gain control over the hotel, which pleases her and Do Jin. We then learn about Mal Sun’s health problems with cancer and how she and her husband Pil Yong have been flying back and forth between Korea and the US. Pil Yong says he is considering permanently migrating, but Mal Sun refuses as she wishes to keep coming back to Korea in hopes of finding her daughter who has been missing for 40 years. Mal Sun says she feels that her daughter did not die and she knows that she is alive. Kim Joon then gets an emergency call from work, cutting his lunch short. He rushes off leaving his wife and sun to finish lunch. After lunch, Do Jin asks if his mother really believes the Jo daughter is alive. Hye Sook doesn’t worry about the potential snag of the Jo’s real heir being found as it has been 40 years already and still no sign. She doesn’t believe the Jos can really believe their daughter is still alive after all that time.

Saewa is at the work clinic with an IV drip when another coworker comes in looking for one of their sunbaes. Saewa learns of the accident and how they are desperately searching for a replacement. After her coworker leaves, Saewa quickly takes out the IV and goes out to get her chance to go live on television. Kim Jun arrives to find that a replacement still hasn’t been found when Saewa volunteers herself. Kim Jun is reluctant to let her go on, but she says that she can do the 3 hours live and show that her judgment, aptitude, and skill is just as good as experience. Kim Jun reluctantly agrees. Saewa is excited by the chance, but then remembers Donghae’s arrival. She is supposed to meet him at the airport and take Anna to the hotel since his coaches do not know of her coming to Korea with him. Saewa then remembers Bongi’s declaration of doing whatever she can to earn money and her offer to help Saewa should she ever need it. Saewa then calls in Bongi to meet Donghae and Anna at the airport. Bongi is surprised, but agrees. She asks who exactly Karl Laker is to Saewa, but Saewa refuses to answer that and begs Bongi to not tell her mother about Karl and his mother’s arrival before going off to get ready.

Sun Ok arrives at Sool Nyeo’s salon only to have her friend rub salt into her wounds. Sool Nyeo is unhappy when Sun Ok snaps at her for her comments about Bongi knowing better. With a friend like Sool Nyeo and her unsympathetic outlook, who needs enemies? But then again, Sool Nyeo decides to take Sun Ok out to cheer her up. You can almost believe she is a good friend at this part even though she seems shallow and wishes to show how she is better off now than the family that once helped her.

Saewa’s broadcast is off to a good start and Kim Jun leaves once he sees it looks like she can handle it. As he goes to prepare for a dinner meeting, Hye Sook and Do Jin arrive with food. Hye Sook was worried about Kim Jun missing lunch so she and Do Jin shuffled their schedules and brought food for all of the staff. Kim Jun shows anything but gratitude. He complains that his wife and son should have called first before coming with food and that they should be minding the hotel instead. Do Jin insists his father grab some food, but Kim Jun says he has other arrangements and can’t. He then tells them to take the food with them as it will be embarrassing if there isn’t enough for everyone. He then leaves to attend his meeting, leaving behind a hurt wife and an angry son. Hye Sook says her husband is right and Do Jin asks what exactly is wrong with his parents that his mom won’t stand up to his father. What indeed? Hye Sook seems to be too easily cowed by her husband and expends a lot of energy worrying about him and his tastes. Do Jin packs up the food when he notices Saewa on the telly.

Sool Nyeo and Sun Ok are on the lookout for a place that is supposed to serve the best eel when they notice Kim Jun going into the eel restaurant. Sun Ok then recalls how Kim Jun’s false report led to her husband’s kimchi factory failure. Apparently the report never mentioned his factory’s name, but I guess it showed the picture of his factory in a report about kimchi factories and lead found in kimchi. Even though Kim Jun issued a retraction later, the damage had already been done. Sun Ok wishes to go into the restaurant to see him, but Sool Nyeo pulls her away and says no one roots for the loser. The only thing Sun Ok and her family can do is to pick themselves up and start over again. True. What can be done after the damage?

Pil Jae and Kang Jae are having a drink with lunch to celebrate Pil Jae finally catching some pickpockets he’s been after when Sun Ok storms up and begins yelling and hitting her husband for not landing on his feet and still only delivering cabbage. Kang Jae is shocked by this and asks what is wrong and Sun Ok tells him she saw Kim Jun and he was doing well while their family still suffers after all of this time. Ironic that she complains about him still selling cabbages when Pil Jae asked his brother the same thing just before Sun Ok came and Kang Jae says he has a plan, but it is a secret for now. What is this plan? And will Sun Ok approve?

Sae Young runs from the beauty shop with Sool Nyeo on her heals. Sae Young has a hand full of cash and is trying to escape. Sool Nyeo catches her and scolds her for stealing money and clothes. Sae Young then complains about how Sool Nyeo does everything for Saewa and not for her. Saewa gets the most allowance and gets all the pretty, new clothes. Sool Nyeo says she also did that for Sae Young as that meant she could get all of Saewa’s nice hand-me-downs. Sool Nyeo tells her that if she steals money again, she will officially cut Sae Young off as her daughter. Sae Young promises to behave and says she is leaving for school, but she doesn’t go to school. She is at the doctor’s office – where there are pregnant women around. Uh-oh, looks like Sae Young might be in trouble. She texts Tae Hoon (Bongi’s brother) saying she will visit afterward.

Tae Hoon is trying to concentrate on studying to pass the bar yet again when Sae Young arrives. He complains about her short skirt and she says she is doing her best to distract his rivals so he will pass while they fail. She then roots for her boyfriend as they are staking everything on him passing the bar. If he passes, then her mother will have to accept him and they can date openly. Sae Young then says if he becomes a prosecutor or judge, she will become a better person and do charity and the like. She then shows him the sonogram of their twins. Yikes! Twins. How long can they keep that a secret from their parents? You can tell that Tae Hoon is really feeling the pressure.

Donghae’s flight arrives safely in Seoul. He tells his mom to keep her distance, but to make sure and follow him as Saewa is supposed to be there to pick her up and take her to the hotel. Anna then excitedly says she can see Korea. Donghae asks his mom if she has missed it and Anna replies she is happy to return as she really did miss her home. Meanwhile, poor Bongi is running late as there was a lot of traffic. Will she make it in time? Donghae is anxiously searching for Saeha who is giving donor updates and it turns out one of them was by Do Jin who donated as “Saewa’s fan.” Donghae calls Saewa but gets no answer. He reluctantly leaves his mother at the airport and tells her to go with no one but Saewa.

Pil Jae arrives home with meat for the family which Sun Ok scorns as it is only pork, but her mood improves with the arrival of Tae Hoon who has taken a break from studying to see his family. What will Sun Ok’s reaction be when she learns her eldest has knocked up Sool Nyeo’s youngest daughter?

At the airport, Bongi finally arrives and frantically searches for Donghae and his mother. She finally hears an announcement about Anna Laker waiting and the information desk and rushes over. The helper points out Anna who gives Bongi a bright smile. Saewa’s broadcast ends without a hitch and she is congratulated on her performance. She is also told that it appears Kim Jun was impressed by it before he left. This makes Saewa happy to hear. She turns on her phone and gets a call from Bongi who says she arrived late, but found Anna. She then says Anna refuses to go with her. Saewa asks to speak to Anna who reluctantly takes the phone from Bongi. Anna immediately brightens when she learns it is Saewa who tells Anna to go with and trust Bongi who will bring Anna to Saewa. Anna then gives the phone back to Bongi and Saewa informs Bongi that Anna is mentally handicapped and that she will meet Bongi and Anna at the hotel. After Saewa hangs up, she is told that the new announcer list has been posted. Saewa rushes to the office to learn that her name is not on that list and that the woman who got the position she wanted only got it through her father’s connections. Poor Saewa maintains her cool face, but her clenched fists belies her anger. She throws out Do Jin’s flowers and note in her anger and heads off to the hotel where Do Jin sees her enter. He follows her to the bar and proceeds to make the frustrated Saewa a drink.

Meanwhile at the airport, a worried Donghae anxiously sits on the bus and wonders if he did the right thing in leaving his mom to wait for Saewa. He then sees Anna leaving with Bongi and jumps to the worst conclusion. He hops off the bus and chases after the two women, only to just narrowly miss them getting on another bus. Bongi, recalling Saewa’s words about Anna’s handicap, tries to start a conversation. Meanwhile, Donghae is in a cab following the bus, desperately trying to get his mother’s attention. The cabby gets in front of the bus and manages to stop it. Donghae jumps out and gets on the bus where he immediately grabs Anna. Bongi tries to protect Anna, but she is pushed down, hurting her arm and that is where we leave this episode.

Things would have been better if Saewa could have told Donghae about Bongi picking up Anna or if Bongi had been on time. What will happen next? (source: http://asianaddictsannon.wordpress.com/)

Synopsis: The story revolves around Korean American speed skater Carl Laker, aka Donghae. He manages to join the national team and go to Korea where his girlfriend Saewa, an up and coming announcer, is. He secretly brings his mentally disabled mother along whom Saewa doesn’t really like. Of course things never go like predicted. Saewa sends her friend Bongi, who had just been recently jilted by her wealthy fiance, to the airport to pick Anna up. Lives become entangled, families are formed, betrayals are made, and new loves blossom.

Summary: We open with Korean American speed skater Carl Laker, aka Donghae, winning a competition which puts him on a team to head to Korea. Excited, he shouts that he is finally going to Korea and he also expresses his love for Korean girl Saewa. We then cut to Saewa who is rushing to get to the broadcast room to do her report. She runs into a fellow worker and drops her scripts. When she goes to deliver the news, part of the script is missing, but she pulls it off without a hitch.

After the broadcast, a fellow coworker congratulates her on her flawless performance and then asks about Karl Laker. He wants to bring Saewa and Karl Laker together as a foster family that was separated. Saewa tries to tell him that their relationship wasn’t like that, but it is announced that veteran announcer Kim Joon has been assigned to take over the broadcasters, making Saewa happy as she wishes to advance her career as far as she can.

Elsewhere, Gye Sun Ok is handing out flyers for a salon owned by her friend Byun Sool Nyeo. Sun Ok is not happy at all to be doing this on the day that her daughter, Bongi, is set to receive her wedding gifts. Sool Nyeo’s youngest daughter comes out and asks why Sun Ok is still there, and then offers to finish handing out the fliers so that Sun Ok can go make preparations. Sun Ok agrees and rushes into the salon to get her hair done. Meanwhile, Sool Nyeo is hitting up a customer to find wealthy, prestigious men for her daughter Saewa to hopefully marry. Sool Nyeo is less than thrilled when Sun Ok comes in asks to have her hair down as Sool Nyeo promised. Sool Nyeo refuses and Sun Ok gets mad and leaves. Sae Young scolds her mother for making ahjumma mad and we learn that Sun Ok used to be better off than she is now, it’s just that her husband’s kimchi factory went bankrupt leaving them poor and in debt.

We then cut to a hotel restaurant where chefs are busily preparing high class meals. Bongi is called out for making the rise too seasoned, thus making it useless to go with other food. Bongi apologizes and her coworker saves her by saying that it is the day Bongi is supposed to be getting her wedding presents. The head chef lets Bongi off and she rushes outside while trying to call her fiance who is not picking up the phone (never a good sign). Her dad is waiting for her outside and picks her up to take her home so she can prepare for the night’s event.

At home, Sun Ok is trying to take care of all the preparations while her niece watches on and her brother (in-law?) works out. It seems he took the day off from his detective duties in order to celebrate the impending nuptials. Bongi and her father Lee Kang Jae arrive home. Bongi goes to help with the dinner prep, but her mother urges her to bathe and get ready instead. Bongi does what she is told while the family wonders just why she can’t get in touch with her fiance to figure out how many people he will be bringing.

Back in America, Karl Laker also works in a restaurant (burger joint). His coworker congratulates him on being to go to Korea. You can tell just how happy Karl is to finally be going to Korea. Karl gets home and looks for his roommate Anna. He brings her flowers and her favorite dinner from the restaurant. He then talks to his long distance girlfriend, Saewa. Both are happy that he is finally coming to Korea. Saewa’s happiness is dampened when she hears that he will be bringing Anna with him. She puts two and two together and realizes that is why Karl started working all his odd jobs, to be able to bring her with him. Saewa worries that he will be too tired to compete, but Karl insists that he is fine. He is bringing Anna with him unbeknownst to his coach or team. This will be interesting. Especially since Karl doesn’t seem to realize that Saewa is less than thrilled to learn about Anna’s impending arrival as well.

His happiness is stilted when he sees his open luggage and a harmonica marked K J sitting on top. He grabs the harmonica and angrily barges into the bathroom where Anna is taking a bath. He scolds her for touching it and tells her to forget about the man who gave the harmonica as that man abandoned them and they are not going to Korea to look for him. K. J. – wonder if that stand for Kim Joon?

Saewa goes to work out where she is interrupted by Kim Do Jin. She is unhappy to see him, but he doesn’t seem to care. He has a membership at that hotel gym as well. He asks Saewa out, but she insists she taken (she technically is). Do Jin insists that she isn’t because her work schedule seems to say she doesn’t have a private life. Saewa calls security to kick him out, but to her dismay they won’t. Do Jin then says he wishes to jog next to her for half an hour everyday she comes to work out. Saewa is speechless.

It turns out that Do Jin is the son of Kim Joon. Makes you wonder if Saewa will soften up towards him later in interest of making her career? At the Kim home, it seems that Hong Hye Sook (Kim’s wife) walks on eggshells around her husband. She scolds a maid for touching her husband’s underwear (to clean with the rest of the familly’s). Seriously weird. Kim Joon then comes out of the shower and Hye Sook takes him down to dinner where he complains there is too much food for their small family. Hye Sook says it is in celebration of his recent promotion. Do Jin then comes in with a flower basket and congratulates his father on his promotion as well, saying it really reflects well on the entire family. Kim Joon states that with his new promotion he will not do anything to help his wife’s hotel. Hye Sook says she knows. Joon then starts in on his son, but Hye Sook says that Do Jin is doing well and was even instrumental in getting the speed skaters to stay at their hotel. This will be interesting since Do Jin likes Saewa who is currently involved with speed skater Karl.

Back at the Lee house, everything is ready for the wedding gift event, but no bridegroom to be seen. He is out in the car with his mother who says that he had dragged things on long enough and that she will now take care of the matter – uh-oh. Sae Young comes in as the Lees are getting restless. They want to know why she is there and why Saewa wasn’t. Turns out Saewa won’t be coming. Sae Young then says she met someone outside and it is Bongi’s future mother-in-law. She breaks the engagement and says it is ridiculous to think that her son would marry into such a family. This greatly upsets the Lees, especially when the woman insinuates that the Lees saw her son as a gold mine and would expect him to pay off the family debt. The Lee family then turn to Bongi and ask what is going on. Bongi rushes out to talk to her fiance only to have him apologize and run away. What a wuss.

When Bongi comes in and explains that Yonggi has broken off the wedding, Sun Ok collapses and asks her son (who is trying to pass the bar exam) what are they going to do with his sister now. It’s not like it is Bongi’s fault that Yonggi was such a mamma’s boy who couldn’t stand up to her and say that is the woman he loved (if he loved her at all). Pil Jae wants to go rough Yonggi up, but he is stopped. No good will come of it anyways. Pil Jae then says it is all Kim Joon’s fault. If it hadn’t been for the false report he made years ago, the kimchi factory would still be operational and thus none of this would have happened. And the plot thickens some more.

Sool Nyeo is looking at pictures of Saewa’s potential date/husband prospects when Sae Young comes in and delivers the news. Sool Nyeo is unhappy that Sae Young went to the party at all and then makes derogatory comments about how she knew things wouldn’t go well as soon as Sun Ok bragged about Bongi marrying a wealthy young man. Saewa comes home to this news and also hears her mother’s threat to never date. Sool Nyeo is going to make sure her daughters don’t end up jilted like Bongi and doesn’t want them to date on their own as she will pick out husbands that befit their current status (despite the two girls growing up fatherless). You can tell this displeases Saewa because she already has Karl. I feel bad for Sae Young because it looks like Sool Nyeo focuses solely on her eldest daughter and ignores her youngest. She tells Sae Young to make sure that no one knows she is Saewa’s sister. Ouch.

A week later the distraught Bongi jogs and tells herself that she is okay, that everything is all right. She will work hard and earn money to help pay off her father’s debts. She gets home where her upset father says that he knows this is hard on her and that she can hit him as he believes it is all his fault that she had to go through all of that. Bongi tells him that it’s all okay and that she loves him. She doesn’t feel it’s his fault at all. Kang Jae then tries to convince his wife to get up as she will only make Bongi feel worse. Sun Ok is still miserable, especially since Bongi was rejected in such a way. Bongi comes in with some rice porridge and Sun Ok apologizes and the Lee family get back on track to how things were before.

Do Jin and his mother arrive at the hotel to make preparations to meet Jo Pil Young and his wife Kim Mal Sun and to also make sure everything is going smoothly for the arrival of the speed skaters. Saewa is going to work. It seems she has a bit of a cold. While driving she sees Bongi selling kimbap on the streets. She pulls over and talks to Bongi who is (surprisingly to Saewa) not abashed by what she is doing at all. Bongi sees it as a test and practice for her cooking skills and also as a way to supplement her hotel income to earn more money for her family. Saewa tells Bongi that the restaurant would not like it if they found out about what Bongi is doing and refuses to buy or even take the free kimbap Bongi offered in concern to her cold. I am not completely liking Saewa at this point. She seems to have too many airs and prejudices especially given that she came from a poor family that used to rely on Bongi’s family. Now that the tables are turned, where is the reciprocation? Bongi tries not to let Saewa’s negativity get her down and starts selling again.

At work, Saewa’s coworker again brings up Karl Laker being an adoptee and trying to reunite him with his birth parents. Saewa then tells him that Karl is not an adoptee, his mother is. Apparently she was born in Korea and adopted overseas to an American couple. On the plan, Karl keeps anxiously looking towards the back. A fellow teammate asks if he knows someone on the plane, but he denies it (right, he keeps looking back to make sure Anna is doing okay). Anna is happily putting a puzzle together while a man across the aisle is making eyes at her. He keeps initiating contact, which Anna ignores. You can tell, especially from this scene, that Anna is not quite normal. The man chides her for playing with puzzles and when Anna accidentally drops a piece that roles to his feet, he won’t let her pick it up and even gets in the seat next to her. Next thing we hear screams as Anna is biting the man who was hitting on her. What a mess! The oily guy deserved it though.

Jo is playing the piano while his wife listens. They have pictures of a little girl all over their room. Who is she? Why isn’t she there with them? The Kim family then comes to visit. Meanwhile, back on the plan, Karl goes to confront the man and we learn that Anna is his mother. He wants retribution, but then Anna comes up and tells her son that it is wrong to hit people and that is where the episode ends. (source: http://asianaddictsannon.wordpress.com/)
