Korean Drama Dream High Episode 14 synopsis/recap/summary - 16 Episode Korean Drama 드림하이

Episode 14 summary/recap/synopsis:

Jin-gook had arrived soon thereafter, intent on confronting the president about using his father for publicity. He’d seen something to infuriate him (we don’t see it) and dragged the president out into the hall, beating him up.

And now, he’s being denounced as a thug by the public. The teachers sympathize with his plight, but can’t do much to help him.

Jin-gook walks out with the K pendant Sam-dong gave him, and sees Hye-mi talking to Baek-hee on the roof. Baek-hee knows she should speak up, but she’s too scared to do it, because that’ll mean doom for her. As Hye-mi holds Baek-hee, she looks up to see Jin-gook looking at her across the way, and her words are as much for him as they are for Baek-hee: That she shouldn’t say anything, “Because that’s what Jin-gook will want. He’ll understand. It’ll be okay.”

Jin-gook watches her with tears in his eyes and gives her a nod.

We get our new challenge o’ the day: An open audition is being held by the label EMG for new talent. (One of my favorite things about this scene is how Ah-jung insults In-sung’s hopes of winning, and he responds by curling his fingers into a claw, as you can see just almost out of frame. Hee.)

The conditions are many: Entrants must submit (1) a 3-minute music video highlighting one’s talents, (2) of a song they’ve composed, (3) with English subtitles, (3) ideally in three languages, (4) who have won at least 10 music-related competitions. So basically, the label wants you to do all the work. Well, can’t say that’s not true to life, eh?

That effectively disqualifies everyone, and they sigh that they can’t participate with those stringent requirements.

Police have seen a glimpse of Baek-hee in the surveillance footage of Jin-gook’s attack, and Kyung-jin and Oh-hyuk find her to ask for an explanation. She nearly collapses from the shock, and confides the truth (which again, we are not privy to).

But the matter isn’t as clear-cut as marching down to the police station and clearing Jin-gook’s name immediately, as Oh-hyuk wants. Kyung-jin warns him that there’s no proof that he was acting in self-defense. Oh-hyuk says it’s simple — Baek-hee can testify — but Kyung-jin calls him cruel to think nothing of Baek-hee’s circumstances: She’ll have to admit to the world that she was sexually assaulted.

Frustrated, Oh-hyuk asks if they can sacrifice one person’s dream to preserve another’s. Kyung-jin, more sensitive to the plight of the female entertainer, says that Jin-gook can recover from this, but Baek-hee can’t. And as sad as that is, it’s probably true, with Korea’s ass-backwards tendency to blame the victim, particularly when the victim is female.

Kyung-jin reminds Oh-hyuk that they’ve seen this happen before, and asks if he recalls the public and the media ever taking the side of the victim: “They’ll tear Baek-hee to pieces.” She vows to never let that happen to her, which Baek-hee overhears.

At dinner, Jin-gook is back in fine eating form and is even looking cheery (as he tries to steal from Sam-dong’s bowl, which Sam-dong is quick to deflect). His good mood is odd since he admits he’s going to apologize to President Yoon tomorrow, along with his father: “Since I made acted wrongly, I should apologize.”

Oh-hyuk comes home in heavy spirits, feeling bad for Jin-gook and patting his shoulder affectionately, feeling torn about his sacrifice but not wanting to make a big deal of it.

It’s not just him; everyone’s feeling pretty bad for Jin-gook, but nobody knows exactly how to show their support. Sam-dong does it by passing along the forms for the EMG competition, and is surprised when Jin-gook says he already got the forms.

Sam-dong mutters in disgruntlement, “I didn’t even have to worry,” which makes Jin-gook smile. He prods, “Were you worried about me?” Sam-dong sputters and protests. Oh, just admit your lurrrve, already!

Hye-mi apologizes to Jin-gook: “I know I should be on your side instead of Baek-hee’s, but I can’t do that.” She feels even worse than Jin-gook, who smiles at her understandingly, fine with her choice.

Sam-dong tries to cheer her up with a lame pun, which doesn’t work, so he pinches her cheeks and tells her to force a smile anyway:

Sam-dong: “Do you know what it means to become an adult? It means there’s less and less to smile about. So we’ll have to smile even more, even if we have to force it. Like Jin-gook.”

She comments that the old Sam-dong has returned. He replies with a noncommittal, “The old Sam-dong? Hmm.”

Jin-gook’s father waits outside to take them to the president’s office, and Oh-hyuk takes a moment to tell him that there’s probably a good reason that Jin-gook isn’t offering up an explanation for his attack. He doesn’t betray the reason, merely says that he knows Jin-gook, and that he is likely acting to protect something.

Father and son are mobbed by reporters on their way to the president’s hospital room, where Dad bows his head and apologizes for Jin-gook’s rash behavior. Jin-gook offers his apology as well, kneeling on the ground to pick up some fallen fruit as he does so. The slimy president slaps Jin-gook on the head a few times, deriding his ungratefulness to the president who made him a star, and the generous father who adopted him as his son.

The president’s blows get a bit aggressive, but when reporters burst into the room to record every gory detail, Jin-gook can do nothing but apologize again, and the president’s slaps turn into gentle pats for the cameras’ benefit.

However, Dad catches the sly change, and his hackles are raised to see his son disrespected. He intercepts the president’s hand, and declares that Jin-gook is not adopted, that he’s his blood child. Omo!

The cameras flash away but Dad ignores them and Jin-gook’s request to not continue, declaring that he’d lied because he was embarrassed of his past. He says that Jin-gook has such a foolishly pure heart that he doesn’t believe for a second that such a kid would hit the president out of the blue. Even though he doesn’t know what that reason is, he’s certain there is one.

He takes Jin-gook’s hand and leads him away. Both Jin-gook and Dad’s secretary urge him to go back and fix this, but Dad is resolute. He won’t ask Jin-gook for the reason, but he guesses that the president was behaving badly, and Jin-gook confirms it. Dad is satisfied with that explanation and takes Jin-gook’s hand.

The resulting scandal about Jin-gook being his love child effectively puts to bed Dad’s political aspirations. But the fact that Dad would give up his upcoming election bid to stand by his son stirs some speculation among the Kirin students that perhaps Jin-gook’s the wronged party in his own scandal.

Baek-hee broods, thinking of how Jin-gook once promised to have faith in her, how Hye-mi comforted her, and Kyung-jin promised to protect her. So when Hye-mi texts Baek-hee to ask if she’s doing okay, she gets back the response that Baek-hee’s on her way to the police station to confess the whole story.

Hye-mi runs after her, but Baek-hee slips away in a taxi. Hye-mi calls to tell her to stop, but Baek-hee no longer wants to live by cheating, admitting that she’d wronged her, too, by dropping the flower pot.

Baek-hee: “I think it started then. Like you said, I felt like I was living in hell. I was always scared, cold, and lonely. I’m sorry, Hye-mi. But there were a lot of people who cared about me, so I’m okay now. I’m not lonely, or scared. No, I’m a little scared now. Hye-mi, can you sing me a song? I really want to hear you sing.”

She asks for their audition song, “Goose’s Dream,” and amidst her tears, Hye-mi sings:

I have a dream
Even if it is shredded or torn,
In my heart,
I’ve cherished it like a treasure

Even if I’m mocked behind my back,
I’ve endured
I could stand it,
waiting for that day

You always say worriedly,
Foolish dreams are poisonous
Just like the world is a book with a fixed ending,
it’s a reality that can’t be turned back

Yes, I have a dream
I believe in that dream,
Watch and see
In front of that cold brick wall called fate
I can stand confidently

One day, I’ll climb over that wall
I’ll be able to fly as high as the sky
Even this heavy world can’t tie me down
At the end of my life,
on that day that makes me smile
Be with me

*Sniff* All right, let’s see a show of hands — who (else) is crying?

Bolstered by Hye-mi’s support, Baek-hee makes her statement to the police, which blows up into a huge story. The barely pixelated photos of her circulate in the media, which report that one of Group K’s members, known as Ms. K, was sexually assaulted by the president.

To her credit, even (formerly) cold-hearted Mom confronts President Yoon and throws the abalone box (sadly empty) at him, screaming at him for his crime.

At school, Jin-gook confronts her, upset that she ignored his instructions to keep quiet. She says she’s sorry, but assures him she’s holding up okay.

She tells him she likes him a lot, but that he’d only had eyes for Hye-mi, which had hurt her and made her wonder, Why Hye-mi? But now she understands: “Normally when people give people something, they hold back their share. Even when protecting someone, they do it after protecting themselves first. But you’re different — you threw yourself away to protect me. That’s enough for me. Hoping for more will only bring me punishment.”

She thrusts out a handshake and thanks him for sticking to his promise through the end, and he shakes.

This means that all the Group K contracts are terminated with Top Agency, and a new agency has selected four members for a new group, which excludes Baek-hee and Jin-gook. The other agencies are gun-shy of crossing President Yoon, which makes it difficult for them to be picked up by anyone else.

Principal Shi tells Kyung-jin to talk to the two students: Since it’ll be nearly impossible to build their careers, it’ll be best they find a new career path. He calls it their duty as teachers, but Kyung-jin angrily balks — they can’t tell them to quit now, when they’ve just started. Teachers should help them stand again, considering that they’d fallen at the hands of a wicked adult: “That is our duty.”

Principal Shi almost loses his temper, but Oh-hyuk supports her, and the other teachers do as well.

Jin-gook’s father asks to meet in a place away from prying eyes, and so, Jin-gook finally gets another trip with his dad in a Ferris wheel. Dad’s here now that he knows what the fight with President Yoon was about. He tells Jin-gook he’d decided correctly, because if he’d told him the truth, he would have acted rashly, sacrificing Baek-hee to save him.

He wonders if Jin-gook’s reputation will recover sufficiently in four years — he’s planning to rekindle his political hopes and run for mayor then. Jin-gook promises to be careful.

Oh-hyuk works on persuading Doo-shik to take on Sam-dong, Jin-gook, and Baek-hee under his White Entertainment aegis. Doo-shik is reluctant, knowing that each student comes with problems, and says that he established his company to realize his precious dream. He’s not about to throw it away carelessly. Oh-hyuk turns his own words around on him, arguing that these kids have precious dreams, too — dreams that will die unfulfilled if not cultivated. But working together, they have the capacity to turn their dreams — including Doo-shik’s — into reality. Oh-hyuk does have a way with words when dealing with him, and Doo-shik is almost persuaded…but slaps himself out of it.

Baek-hee practices her dance moves alone at night, having skipped her classes, and Kyung-jin finds her in the studio to ask about it. Baek-hee says she finds it embarrassing to face the other kids. Rather than scolding her, Kyung-jin blinks back tears and decides that they can conduct their lessons here, instead — every night at 9pm, just the two of them.

Baek-hee hugs her teacher and thanks her earnestly. Kyung-jin assures her that things will be okay, and holds her while Baek-hee gives in to her tears.

At lunch the next day, Baek-hee holds her head up high as she sits alone, where Hye-mi finds her to suggest they enter the EMG contest together. Baek-hee protests that she doesn’t meet the qualifications, but Hye-mi says airily that she doesn’t, either: “And if I don’t, then the whole country doesn’t.” Hee. Love her confidence.

She concludes that the impossibility of meeting the criteria means she can just ignore them altogether (ha) — which is exactly what Pil-sook and Jason have decided. As have Jin-gook and Sam-dong, who join them a moment later. (Adorably, Pil-sook and Jason have also set aside an application for Jin-gook, as Sam-dong did.)

Aww, yeah! The group is complete: Wonder K powers, activate!

They all agree to help each other make their music videos (well, Jason balks, until Pil-sook readily agrees, and then he joins in on the fun).

Afterward, Hye-mi corners Pil-sook to ask about her Jason situation, and Pil-sook reveals the note he’s slipped into her locker: “Miss Sushi, I love you.” OMG.

Hye-mi asks how Pil-sook knew she liked Jason, which is hilarious but perhaps understandable, as the Hye-mi Bot conversion into full human is yet incomplete. Pil-sook answers that he’s always the first person she thinks of, and wants him with her always. Hye-mi walks away shuddering at the cheesiness.

Speaking of humanization: Doo-shik comes to the school and finds Kyung-jin, just as she’s (adorably!) primping (and not wearing all-black for once), adding a flower pin to her hair. She’s so cute as the fumbling flirt since she’s so bad at it, as well as being embarrassed to be caught in the middle of it.

Doo-shik wants her recommendation for students to sign, because she has a reputation for cool-headed, objective judgments. Yet his face falls as she declares the three students worthy of recommendation: Baek-hee, Sam-dong, Jin-gook. (Suspiciously, he asks if she’s planned this with Oh-hyuk. Heh.)

Jin-man bursts in, and Doo-shik asks for his opinion as well, only to get the same response. Aggravated, Doo-shik asks for any other recs, and Jin-min supposes there IS one more…but no, he can’t say it. Doo-shik presses him eagerly, and the playing of Park Jin-young’s “Don’t Leave Me” in the background clues us in to the turn of Jin-man’s thoughts as he declares that this guy has the best dance skills EVAR: himself.

Hye-mi puzzles over how to show her star potential in her music video, and Oh-hyuk offers the suggestion that instead of trying to show their future, they should show their past. If they trace how far they’ve come in the past year, they’d be showing promise of future growth.

The kiddos ahh thoughtfully and think back — and is Hye-mi actually imagining herself as a ROBOT? I love this show.

Jin-gook and Sam-dong smile over how far they’ve come, but Hye-mi figures she was just the same a year ago. Jin-gook reminds her by mimicking her Robot Voice: “I. Have. A. Dream. I. Trust. That. Dream.” Sam-dong adds to that by reminding her of the time she sang while pooping (HAHAHA) and how she did her chicken dance at the sauna.

But when Hye-mi and Sam-dong get caught up in recounting all the hilarious scenes in their past, Jin-gook looks at them a little sadly, left out of the memories.

Hye-sung finds Jin-gook brooding and offers to listen to his problem. He asks who she’d like better: The one who’s with her for a long time, or the one who can’t be with her because he’s busy.

She wants examples, so he asks who she likes better: Sam-dong, who’s been around, or himself, who’s been busy. She thinks a bit, then motions him in closer…then kisses him on the cheek and dashes away. That’s my girl, thinking fast on her feet!

Jason and Pil-sook submit the group’s applications for the EMG contest, and totally make my heart squeeze by the way they look at each other and count together — one, two, three — just so they can bow and say “Thank you” in unison. OMG. Yes, they are THAT couple.

Pil-sook chooses the spot for their shoot — a museum of sorts — and while Jason isn’t thrilled about the backdrop, he agrees to her choice.

Sam-dong’s video — replete with full-size cardboard cut-outs of his old self — takes place in the basement studio. He offers up two “languages”: his “native” accent and his Seoul voice, which is hysterical because he affects this stilted Seoul accent that sounds ridiculously stuffy.

Jin-gook dances in the school studio, while Hye-mi’s video contrasts her old Robot Voice clip with the current Aegyo Hye-mi…which she flubs because she can’t stand the indignity of putting on the cute act. Awesome.

Baek-hee’s video acknowledges her tarnished image, saying that right now people see her as Ms. K, “But I’ll work hard to make the name K a star representing Korea.” Foreshadowing!

Oh-hyuk shows the clips to a stone-faced Doo-shik, saying that these six are the only ones bothering to enter the competition. Everyone else gave up, but they took up the challenge — and doesn’t that mean they’re the top six? Doo-shik is finally moved, and agrees to sign the contracts.

Kyung-jin, who’s been reading the Baek-hee news with a heavy heart, is therefore thrilled with Jin-ma’s good news that Baek-hee, Jin-gook, and Sam-dong are signing with White Entertainment (who’s showing interest in Jason, too).

Squealing in glee, she links her fingers through his in a celebratory gesture, but poor Jin-man has to deal with the disappointment when Kyung-jin pulls her hands away and tears out of the room looking for Oh-hyuk.

Finding him in the hall, she grabs grabs him in a surprise hug. The students cheer and clap at the spectacle, while Principal Shi has palpitations in his office, and Jin-man watches sadly.

Jin-man cheers up when Hye-mi comes by and reacts excitedly to the news, doing the same finger-linking gesture in happiness. When she likewise turns to go, he whines about being ditched again (lol) and asks who she’s running off to find. Jin-gook? Sam-dong?

Hye-mi replies easily, “Who else? Of course I’m going to—” and then stops, surprised with herself.

The moment of realization has come — it’s the person who came to mind first, as Pil-sook described. And then, just to make us stew in our seats a little longer, Hye-mi sees both boys heading toward her, and ducks out of the way.

However, it’s Sam-dong her gaze fixes on, and she sighs to herself, “I must be crazy!”

MUAHAHAHA! Sam-mi it is!

Smile, Donghae Episode 7 synopsis/recap/summary

Anna tells Saewa not to leave and then confesses that James is really not a bad person. He had to leave for awhile and before he came back, Anna and her parents had already moved. So Anna believes that James must be looking for her, too. Anna then lectures Saewa about misunderstandings building and how Donghae and Saewa are fighting because Saewa stayed away for too long. Anna then tells Saewa to stop staying away as Donghae really loves Saewa. Ignoring that, Saewa asks if Anna can really appear on TV as Donghae will be mad and wouldn’t want Anna to do it.

We then see Donghae approaching the PD where he immediately tells the man that he refuses to do the show. The man tries to get him to change his mind, but Donghae refuses and to get Saewa out of a difficult situation, says that he initially promised and backed out, so it is not Saewa’s fault at all. He then takes his leave. Like the PD, will believe that.

Bongi goes back to the hotel room, but neither Donghae or Anna is there. Saewa brings Anna to meet the PD who is livid and ready to cuss Saewa out for not bringing Donghae in like she promised. Saewa interrupts and introduces Anna to the PD and tells him that Anna has agreed to go on the show to look for her parents and Carl Laker’s father. This brings the smile to the PDs face, but he does ask Saewa if Anna will end up backing out like Donghae. Saewa assures him that Anna won’t. Saewa then gives the PD a picture of Anna from when she was adopted and then tells him all they know about Donghae’s father – his American name was James and all he left Anna was his harmonica. Wow. That’s it?

Bongi finds Anna just as Saewa and the PD leave. She asks Anna what is going on and Anna immediately says that she wasn’t with Saewa. Anna then says they were together, but didn’t talk. Bongi, knowing that something is up, asks Anna what is wrong. Anna then asks Bongi to keep a secret. Anna is going to look for James, whom Donghae hates. Bongi doesn’t think that Anna should lie to Donghae about something that important, but Anna insists on keeping the secret or else she will never find James.

Back at the Camilla, Hye Sook asks Do Jin to call if he hears anything from the Jos. Do Jin then informs her that Mal Sun’s checkup went well. Hye Sook is happy to hear this as Mal Sun is getting up there in years. Do Jin then wonders if they will be returning to Korea soon. If so, then he has to get on top of finding Dong Baek from the Jos. It won’t be easy as she went missing twenty plus years ago. Hye Sook tells him to try his best and when they can’t find her, maybe the Jos will realize once and for all that Dong Baek won’t be coming back. Do Jin asks about putting out TV and newspaper ads asking for Dong Baek to find them if they can’t find her. When Hye Sook says nothing, her son smiles at that and says that she must really be afraid of Dong Baek’s return. After all, his mother deserves to inherit the hotel. Hye Sook tells Do Jin to watch his mouth as you never know who could be listening, but then goes on to say that she has put everything into making the hotel a success and has even sent Do Jin to Switzerland to study (Switzerland, believe it or not, is actually THE place to go for hotel management).

We then cut to the Lee house where poor Pil Jae is trying to make breakfast for himself and his daughter. Needless to say he makes more of a mess than anything else. Kang Jae is in the room with Sun Ok and is trying to get her to get out of bed and to eat herself. Sun Ok keeps demanding the return of the money. She says that she will starve to death unless he gets it back and Kang Jae says he will die right behind her. She then says that he is all talk and demands to know where the money went. Kang Jae finally says he bought a cabbage patch. Sun Ok is immediately afraid that he is trying to start up a kimchi business. Kang Jae assures her that isn’t so and then says to wait a few months and he will return the money. Sun Ok says she needs it now to repay Sool Nyeo. Kang Jae says that he will explain to Sool Nyeo, but Sun Ok says as the head of the household he can’t beg anyone, she’ll take care of it.

Sool Nyeo is at the salon wondering why Sun Ok hasn’t shown up to work or wired the money. Sun Ok pops in with all of Sool Nyeo’s favorite homemade foods. Sool Nyeo is almost swayed, but then asks about the money. Sun Ok says that something came up and that she will have to return the money a little later. Sool Nyeo says she’ll take the food for now and then goads Sun Ok to go to Sool Nyeo’s house to clean up as the housekeeper quit. Sun Ok quickly agrees to do it. I feel bad that she has to take all of Sool Nyeo’s crap just because she couldn’t manage to scrape the money together. But, what can she do?

At the station, the PD tells Saewa that the possibility of finding Anna’s parents and lover is slim given how long ago everything happened and how little information they had, but they will still try and Saewa better make sure Anna is there. After he leaves, Saewa asks herself why she keeps wanting more and wonders what will happen when Donghae finds out. Poor Donghae keeps thinking about Saewa and their argument and falls in practice yet again, earning him more scolding from the coach. Donghae says he will stay after to practice more and then he sees Saewa in the stands. She tells him that she understands and isn’t mad anymore, making Donghae happy (too bad he doesn’t know why she really isn’t mad at him). The two then decide to go visit Namsam, where you can see all of Seoul.

Bongi and Anna are having a great time in Namsam, touring around all the popular places. Bongi asks Anna why she particularly wanted to go to Namsam and Anna tells her its because James said they should go there together when they got to Korea. Bongi asks about James and we learn that Anna knew next to nothing about him. She doesn’t know his last name or why he was in New York. The only thing she can remember is that he was from Donghae and that is how Donghae got his Korean name. The two climb to an observation deck and Anna comments on the beauty of Seoul, but then says how sad she is as she is finally in Namsam, but James isn’t there at all.

As Bongi and Anna head down, Donghae and Saewa are heading up and the two cable cars pass. Saewa asks why Donghae seems so down and he replies that thinking about his mother, he really didn’t want to go to Seoul, but thinking about Saewa, he just couldn’t stay away. When the two get to the top, Donghae immediately shouts his love for Saewa who tells him to quiet down as people were staring. Donghae then asks Saewa to do what she used to do in college when she practiced being an anchor. Saewa then gives a news report on Donghae and states how she will be there to participate in his dream as well. It then starts raining. The two start running, but Saewa falls and hurts her foot. Donghae picks her up and carries her and then runs off to get some bandages and an umbrella. At this time Do Jin calls, but Saewa ignores it. Donghae comes running back and immediately bandages her foot and asks if she needs to see a doctor. Saewa apologizes and Donghae says that he is the one who should be sorry as its his fault she slipped. Saewa, feeling even guiltier apologizes yet again.

Sae Young is online doing a video chat with Tae Hoon (she is in her traditional dance clothes and beating a drum). She asks how well she is doing for their babies and Tae Hoon praises her for doing such a wonderful job. Sae Young then tells him to eat slower because this lunch conference is about the only time they get to see each other. The doorbell rings and it is Sun Ok. She immediately puts the food in the fridge and then complains about the messy house. Sae Young, calling her “mother”, says that it is the housekeeper’s day off an Sun Ok says that Sool Nyeo is getting old and that Sae Young should be taking care of more household duties. Sae Young tries to win brownie points, but this leaves Sun Ok wondering just why she is acting so funny.

Sun Ok starts vacuuming in Sae Young’s room and finds clothes thrown under the bed. Sun Ok says she pities anyone who will be Sae Young’s in-law as the girl is hopeless (too funny as we know that will be her). Sae Young then rushes in and tells Sun Ok that she will finish cleaning her own room. Tae Hoon has finished eating and then calls out for Sae Young. Sun Ok hears the voice but can’t determine where it is coming from. Sae Young rushes in front of her laptop and hurriedly closes it. Sun Ok thinks the voice sounded familiar and Sae Young immediately chases her out of the room. Crisis averted for now.

That night, Do Jin goes to the gym but is disappointed to find that Saewa is not there. After he gets home he gives her a call and Saewa asks if he is calling just because she didn’t go. Do Jin then reminds her that they agreed to work out together every night (after he complains about her ignoring his calls all day). Saewa sits down on her bed and says that she doesn’t recall ever agreeing to that and Do Jin reminds her about their dinner. Saewa hangs up and Do Jin smiles as he is enjoying the hard-to-get Saewa. It’s funny how it seems like a game to him, but yet you can tell there is a seriousness under his frivolity.

Back at the hotel, Anna is practicing the harmonica in the hopes of finding James during the next day’s program when Donghae returns to the room. Anna immediately hides the harmonica out of sight. Donghae asks how her day was with Bongi and Anna says that she had fun touring Seoul and that Bongi is a really sweet and nice girl. Anna then asks if Donghae and Saewa made up. Donghae says that they have and that Saewa has forgiven him for not agreeing to appear on TV. Anna’s smile fades and she immediately apologizes. Donghae laughs and asks why all the women in his life are apologizing to him and then tells Anna to go to bed as she must be tired.

The morning dawns and Hye Sook is in a cute outfit, happy to be going to Jeju with her husband. Jun comes in and asks why there are two suitcases and Hye Sook says one is hers and the other is his. She didn’t want their stuff to get mixed together. Jun then drops the bomb and says that he canceled her ticket as he thought she was too busy. Poor Hye Sook is crushed. Really, I feel bad because her husband keeps putting her down, but then she has that really cold and ambitious streak which makes me feel a little less sympathetic. Jun goes to leave and Do Jin comes down and wishes them a good trip. Do Jin is unhappy to realize that his mother is staying behind. He asks if Jun is making Hye Sook stay (which he is) and Hye Sook says that Jun thought she was too busy and then says she’ll be in to the office a little later.

Back at the hotel, Bongi is prettying Anna up and tells her that when she gets to be Anna’s age, Bongi hopes that she can be just as pretty. Donghae says that Bongi would have to be pretty now to be pretty later (burn!). Donghae asks why Anna is dressed up and Bongi says they are going out to a palace later. Donghae (who is getting a cold) leaves for practice and Bongi says that they should tell Donghae, but Anna refuses. They get a call from Saewa telling them when and where to meet an they head off to the station. Saewa greets them and Bongi asks if she isn’t doing to tell Donghae. Saewa replies that she isn’t and that Bongi needs to help keep it for her. Poor Bongi! She doesn’t like this at all.

Donghae is scolded for not having his head on the contest and for even getting sick. Donghae apologizes and goes back to his room where he wonders what happened to Anna and Bongi as they weren’t supposed to leave until after lunch. Back at the TV station, Anna and Saewa are getting ready when Bongi gets a call from Donghae asking where she is. Bongi replies that they are still in the hotel room, but Donghae (who is in the hotel room) hears one of the workers in the background and demands to know where Bongi and his mother are. Donghae immediately races out of the hotel and Bongi tries to get to Anna to tell her that Donghae knows.

At the salon, Sool Nyeo invites Sun Ok and the girls to watch Saewa’s first broadcast. Sun Ok makes a snarky comment about Saewa doing this instead of the nine o’clock news, but immediately tries to cover it up. The program begins to start and Hye Sook turns on the TV and sees the advertisement for the program that is there to help reunite families. Donghae arrives at the station and asks where the recording is and runs off to get there. The show is about to start and the PD asks Anna to play the harmonica as Donghae arrives. Anna is shocked to see her sun who grabs her arm and drags her off stage. Saewa and Bongi try to stop him, but he pushes past.

Episode 1 synopsis/recap/summary:

The series opens with the emperor arriving and a young woman coming after him with a sword. He asks the girl, Shia Niang if she really intends to kill him, and she says that she must. He then asks about their promises and the two begin fighting (typical dramatic wire fighting which I am not a fan of as it looks to fake). The emperor succeeds in disarming the girl and tells her that she can live if she supports him, but must die if she stands in the way – even if she is the woman he loves. Someone shouts no and we see that this is not the past, but rather a film set.

Our protagonist Qing Chuan comes and begins scolding the actor playing Yong Zhen saying that the emperor is not as cold and vicious as he is being portrayed. The director then yells at them for interrupting the scene. The assistant director comes and tells the tourist group to leave and Qing Chuan says that they cannot portray the emperor like that as it is not historically accurate. The assistant director tells her to become rich and become the boss and then she can complain and demand changes. She is then ushered out with the rest of the group that was touring the palace.

Yang Mi x 2As she was leaving the palace complaining about how no one will watch such a crappy drama, a fog drifts in and someone says “you must go back.” Qing Chuan turns and sees a woman in historical garb and says that the entrance fee was expensive so she can’t go back. Qing Chuan then thinks the woman must be a cast member of the drama and takes out her camera to get a picture. The woman, who still has her back turned to her, says again “You must go back” and then adds in Qing Chuan’s name. This surprises Qing Chuan as she wants to know how the mysterious woman could no her name. She puts the camera away and approaches the woman. As she turns around, Qing Chuan is shocked as the woman has the same face! The woman tells her again to go back and we see the two worlds melding a bit.

Then a book drops on the floor an Qing Chuan wakes up in bed – it was just a dream! She hugs her pillow doll close to her happy that it was still a dream. Then in comes her mother who is upset to see her daughter still lazing in bed on such an important day. She tells Qing Chuan to quickly get ready and Qing Chuan asks if her mother really wants her to get engaged to Fei Fan. Her mother says of course and then quickly turns to look at her daughter and asks Qing Chuan if she plans on backing out of the engagement now. Her mother then reminds Qing Chuan that after Qing Chuan’s father died, Fei Fan was the only one who helped them run the antique shop. For many years others tried to steal him away, but Fei Fan stuck with the shop as he loved Qing Chuan. Qing Chuan says that she knows they are indebted to Fei Fan, but (while reading her history book) shouldn’t a person marry someone you have feelings for? Apparently not. Her mother asks what good are feelings (Oh, I don’t know, they can help a marriage be successful and last). When picking a husband, you need a kind, dependable, smart man. Her mom then urges Qing Chuan to hurry and get up and get dressed. Qing Chuan says she will once she finishes reading her book. Her mother grabs the book and asks how many times she will read it. She then threatens to burn it if Qing Chuan doesn’t get up, thus Qing Chuan reluctantly gets up.

Qing Chuan goes about her routine toilette without any real interest in it at all. She puts on her makeup, her pretty red dress, and does her hair. Her mom is happy at how pretty her daughter looks, but Qing Chuan looks as if she could care less. In fact, she pays more interest to her MP3 player than the time. Her mother quickly grabs her arm and they rush out so as not to be late.

Yan KuanWhen they arrive at the shop, Fei Fan immediately excuses himself and approaches Qing Chuan and her mother who apologizes for their tardiness. He tells them not to worry as the rest of the guests have not arrived yet (looks to be a grand opening and not an engagement party). Qing Chuan removes her ear pieces and then asks if Fei Fan really wants to marry. He says that he does and she points out that she has a lot of imperfections (no kidding, she kind of really annoyed me when she was in the modern age as she was disrespectful and disinterested in everything around her – maybe she is destined for the past as she is so obsessed with it and that is why she seems to fit better there). Fei Fan says that her imperfections are not a problem because he likes her imperfections and all. Qing Chuan puts her earpiece back in and ignores her mother when she says that she is lucky to have found Fan Fei to marry.

Then Fei Fan’s mother arrives and our disinterested heroine is dragged to meet her future mother-in-law. Qing Chuan makes a cursory greeting and then goes back to paying attention to her MP3 player even when Han Fei’s mother tries to reach out and bond by asking Qing Chuan to show her around. Qing Chuan says that she doesn’t no much about antiques either, but Qing Chuan’s mother insists and walks off with Fei Fan. Making their way around the shop, Fei Fan’s mother immediately begins listing all her faults (they are true, she is rude and disrespectful and her looks are average – she’s pretty, but not a knockout). Under normal circumstances I would find that just plain rude, but in the beginning I really didn’t care for Qing Chuan’s character. Instead of listening to Mrs. Lin’s tirade, Qing Chuan concentrates on the music. When she is scolded for it, she asks if Mrs. Lin wants to listen to the song. Mrs. Ling tells her to forget it and then says that once Qing Chuan marries her son Qing Chuan will have to change. Qing Chuan just continues to listen to her music and poke around the shop instead of paying Mrs. Lin any heed, which makes Mrs. Lin angrier.

Yang MiQing Chuan then notices a portrait on the wall and is drawn to it. At this moment Fei Fan begins the the event, which is the grand opening of the shop. Meanwhile, Qing Chuan keeps heading slowly towards the portrait while Fei Fan says there is another important announcement. He grabs Qing Chuan and brings her over and says that they are also announcing their engagement. Qing Chuan pays no attention to this and her mother yanks the earpiece out of her ear. When Fei Fan places the ring on her finger the portrait comes off the wall and is blown away. Qing Chuan immediately chases after it. When Fei Fan and her mother go to follow, the fallen waiters and then a chain curtain prevent them from moving. Qing Chuan runs and runs after the portrait, not heeding where she is or the fact that the sky is darkening and the wind is picking up. Finally the portrait comes to rest against a tree when Qing Chuan picks it up the dark sky emits a golden light and she is sucked into the ground leaving only the portrait behind.

Yang MiWe then cut to the past where a group of brightly dressed maidens dance on a stage. When the dance ends, a woman goes and says that she will announce the winner if no other woman in the audience protests and wishes to try her luck. No one says anything and the winner is announced as Su Yan (Tong Li Ya). While the crowd starts celebrating, down falls Qing Chuan from the sky surprising everyone. Qing Chuan looks around and wonders just where in the world she is. The MC then rushes over to Qing Chuan and says that a maiden has fallen from the heavens and she then asks Qing Chuan what talents she has. Qing Chuan is pulled to her feet and a song comes out from her MP3 player. Everyone apparently thinks she is singing despite the fact her mouth is not moving. Qing Chuan looks around in confusion wondering where she is and why people are dressed like that. There is no film crew – so what is going on? Qing Chuan then thinks that she may just have gong back through time. Thinking she has to go back and take care of her mother, she grabs a curtain and tries to get back up from where she fell. Everyone thinks she is doing a dance and she ends up winning the competition, annoying Su Yan. Qing Chuan then asks the MC just what year it is. The woman says that Qing Chuan is so overwhelmed by winning that she has even forgotten the year. She tells the audience to let Qing Chuan know the year and they all yell out that it is the 47th year of Kang Xi’s reign. Qing Chuan repeats this, dazed and then collapses. Yeah, that is a little overwhelming.

Mickey He, Tong Li YaNight falls and we see a lone man fishing. Su Yan comes and he asks if she lost. Yu San asks how he knows and the man replies that if she had won the contest, she wouldn’t have had time to come there to meet him. Yu San says that she almost won but a girl came out of nowhere. The man quickly shuts her up and tells her its not important. It’s his fault for thinking that with all her qualities she would be able to compete with the other girls. Ouch. He tells Yu San to rest early, but she does not leave. He then asks if there is anything else. Yu San approaches him and we learn that he is the 4th prince (referred to as 4th A Ge – truthfully too many freaking titles in this drama to remember them all – at least the princes are easy to remember because it is their birth order followed by A Ge) as she finally addresses him by title (not by name). She then says that if she had won she would have to go to the palace and risk her life – wouldn’t that make him sad? 4th A Ge (whose name is really Yin Zhen) asks Yu San to not asks such questions. He wouldn’t feel bad as he knows that she would have an even better future. Yu San doesn’t want a better future, but Yin Zhen cuts her off before she can say just what she wants. He tells her that just because he didn’t catch a fish that night, he won’t give up as he believes that one day he will be able to catch one (nice metaphor for whatever the two are plotting). Yin Zhen then tells her to do her work properly as the days are still long.

We then cut to a palanquin and inside is Qing Chuan who has been changed into clothes of the era. She wakes up and wonders what is going on. She peeks outside and says she must be dreaming. She pinches herself and keeps pinching her self and then she cries out because it hurts. So she isn’t dreaming after all! The MC pulls back the curtain from outside and asks if anything is wrong. Qing Chuan then asks where they are going, but the woman refuses to tell, just saying that it is a good place and that Qing Chuan will know when she gets there. Poor Qing Chuan fears that she is going to be sent to a brothel and tries to get out of the palanquin at all costs, but the woman outside won’t let her off.

They finally arrive and Qing Chuan is amazed at all of the historical and luxurious items in the room. It is announced that Tai Zi has arrived and the woman grabs Qing Chuan down and tells her to bow and greet the Tai Zi. Qing Chuan asks who and in walks a young man. Qing Chuan, remembering her history, recalls that this must be the second prince Yin Reng who is currently the crown prince (Tai Zi is that official title). She is surprised by how handsome he is as he wasn’t painted in the best light in the history books. The prince asks if she is the winner this time and the MC replies that she is. Although Qing Chuan’s looks might not be much, but she has a beautiful voice. The MC then asks if Yin Reng wants to hear. He sends off the MC and Qing Chuan grabs hold of the MC and asks where she is going. The MC then reveals that the beauty contest’s sole purpose was to find a woman to “take care of” the crown prince. This shocks Qing Chuan who doesn’t want to be there. The MC then leaves and shuts Qing Chuan in with the prince.

Yang Mi, Zhong Feng YanQing Chuan turns to face him and says that the MC got it wrong and that she will be leaving. However, she can’t get the door open and Yin Reng keeps approaching. Qing Chuan protests as Yin Reng touches her and goes to kiss her. He tells her that her fighting only makes him more eager (great – a pervert). Qing Chuan thinking quickly, manages to push him away and tells him to wait. He asks what tricks she is playing and Qing Chuan spits out that she is a “fairy” which he doesn’t believe. Qing Chuan, thinking back on her history, says that she predicts there will be a natural disaster at the Huang River soon so Yin Reng needs to leave and save his people. Yin Reng says that before the people are saved, she needs to think of a way to save herself. He then picks up Qing Chuan and puts her on the bed where she fights tooth and nail to be freed. It is then that a eunuch calls in saying that the emperor wishes to see Yin Reng. Tai Zi is immediately disturbed by this and frightened as to what his father could possibly want. Qing Chuan tries to think back on what was going on in the 47th year of Kang Xi’s rule. Qing Chuan then says that if she can find a way to save him, will he let her go. Yin Reng is reluctant, but he does listen to her.

Zong Feng YanThe emperor throws a scroll down at his son and asks if he has read the reports. Yin Reng replies that he hadn’t had the time and the emperor then asks if his son knew that there was a natural disaster at the Huang River and that many people have died. Yin Reng immediately says that he will investigate right away and Kang Xi scolds his son saying that by the time he is done, then even more people will be dead. Kang Xi then asks what his son as managed to do for the country as he doesn’t read the documents or know anything that is going on. Yin Reng then starts crying and this stops the emperor in his tracks. The emperor asks why his son is crying when he hadn’t even finished the scolding and Yin Reng asks for three days time and after that his father can do whatever. Kang Xi demands to know the reason and Yin Reng brings up that its exactly the 32nd anniversary of his mother’s death. These past few days he has been paying for his mom and there are still three days left to complete the ceremony. Clever trick as the emperor truly loved the late empress. This softens the emperor as it shows his son filial heart. Yin Reng then goes to take his leave, but Kang Xi tells him to wait. Yin Reng turns around and asks what and is relieved when his father only asks him to help him burn three incense for Yin Reng’s mother and to tell her that Kang Xi is well.

Yang Mi, Zong Feng YanQing Chuan is waiting in the room wondering if her plan worked. She then decides to take advantage of the prince’s absence and leave. She goes to climb out the window only to come face to face with Yin Reng. He asks what she is doing and she says that it was hot and she just needed air. Yin Reng promises to take her for some air in his garden and she says there is no need and climbs back in. When Yin Reng gets inside she asks if her advice worked. Yin Reng says that it did and that her river disaster happened as predicted as well. He then says that Kang Xi wanted to kill him, but since he remembered to cry for his mother – he was spared. Qing Chuan, talking to herself, says that of course she was right as Kang Xi would never have made a “grass bun” like Yin Reng heir if not for love of the empress. Yin Reng did not quite catch this and asks her what she means, but she quickly says it is nothing.

Qing Chuan then asks if he won’t do anything to her now. He says that he will. He sees her as his goddess of mercy and asks to fulfill whatever request she has. Qing Chuan asks to be let go and he says that is no problem, she just has to let him know where to find her again (defeats the purpose, doesn’t it?). Qing Chuan (twiddling her two index fingers which is customary when she is worried and thinking), realizes that she has no place to go. Thus she decides to stay with Yin Reng and utilize his power to help her find the place where she was sucked into the past. She asks for paper and ink and she quickly draws the woods where she fell into the past. Yin Reng quickly agrees to help her and immediately sets off to find the place for her. Along, Qing Chuan wonders when she will be able to go home again.

Mickey HeThe fourth prince Ying Zheng meets with the head eunuch of the palace to ask after the emperor’s health. The eunuch replies that it is rare for Yin Zheng to be so caring and replies that the emperor’s health is much better these last few days. Yin Zheng asks if there is any event that has made his father happy. If so, he would like to know so he can do his own filial duty. An Da (title for the head eunuch?) then spots the crown prince and tells Yin Zhen that he heard that the crown prince has been helping the emperor more and more and has even been praised for his governance ability (all thanks to the “fairy” Smile with tongue out). The unhappy (as he wants to inherit the throne) Yin Zheng then says that the crown prince doing such good acts is good for all the people. An Da tells Yin Zheng not to worry as the crown prince cannot compare to Yin Zheng (true). Yin Zeng replies that it doesn’t matter as the crown princes is from the first wife and that Yin Zeng is only the son of the second wife. No matter how hard he works, he will never be anything more than the emperor’s brother. Yin Zeng then warns An Da about being openly against the crown prince (by tattling to the emperor). An Da doesn’t plan on it as one never knows what the future holds. An Da then tells Yin Zeng that sand cannot hide a pearl’s shine and that he believes that the emperor will come to see Yin Zeng’s merits. Ying Zeng thanks him for his loyalty. So looks like Yin Zeng was plotting something against the crown prince when he an Yu San hatched their plot for the beauty contest.

Zong Feng YanAt Yin Reng’s residence, his wife is in awe of all the gifts the emperor has given his son for being such a help. Yin Reng says that even he cannot believe his good fortune. His wife realizes just how good a luck charm the fairy is. Fu Jin (title of the crown prince’s wife) then says he can easily become emperor with the fairy’s help. One of Yin Reng’s men approach and delivers the news that they are unable to find the woods that the fairy drew. This upsets Yin Reng because Qing Chuan has stayed with him because he promised to help her find it. Fu Jin approaches her husband with a plan – to make the fairy his second wife! Yin Reng doesn’t think this plan will work as the fairy is looking for a special place and when he finds it, she will leave. In China at that time, women were supposed to be devoted to three men: their husbands, sons and fathers. So, once the fairy became his wife, she would have to stick by him! Aiyo, what a plan. The most shocking part of this is the fact that Yin Reng’s wife actually proposed it first. Yin Reng asks if Fu Jin will be jealous and his wife said that her mother taught her that to become an empress a woman must know a single word “endure.” Plus, the emperor has many wives and consorts, so if Fu Jin was to be jealous of all of those girls, she would die of it. Yin Reng says that is very reasonable and their plot to bring the fairy into the royal family is started.

Zong Feng Yan, Yang MiAt this time Qing Chuan shows up and asks the prince how the task she set him is going. At this time Fu Jin then says that they have good news. What is the news? Why, that Tai Zi wants to marry Qing Chuan. Surprised, Qing Chuan goes to meet them and Fu Jin asks if she is not happy. Qing Chuan says that of course she is happy, but then asks in the same breath who’s stupid idea was the marriage proposal. Fu Jin points to Yin Reng who points to his wife. So much for standing by your spouse. Qing Chuan then goes up to the prince and asks if he really wants to marry her. Yin Reng says that he does and Qing Chuan then says that she will never be a second wife. If the Tai Zi really wants to marry her, then he has to divorce Fu Jin first. Qing Chuan then goes off and the nervous Fu Jin tries to back track. Yin Reng looks at his wife and tells him that he has to keep the fairy beside him forever – thus his first wife is getting the axe! Who knew that there was divorce in the Qing dynasty era? Yin Reng apologizes and immediately runs off after Qing Chuan calling her his “new wife” while his old wife throws a fit.

Back in the prince’s quarters, Qing Chuang looks at the picture of herself and her mother on her MP3 player and wonders when she will ever make it back home. A maid comes in and Qing Chuan asks what the ruckus is outside. The made replies that a wedding banquet is being prepared for her. This shocks Qing Chuan who never thought the crown prince would actually take her proposal seriously. She tells the maid that is impossible as she said she will only be the first wife. The maid then tells her that Fu Jin is decreed the second wife so that Qing Chuan will be the first wife. The maid then leaves the horrified Qing Chuan. She thinks to herself that she now knows why the crown prince didn’t come to a good end in history. Her only option now is fleeing. She quickly gathers up provisions and goes to steal away from the palace.

Yang Mi, Tong Li YaAs she sneaks out, she hides quickly from a troop of dancers brought in to celebrate the prince’s impending nuptials. Qing Chuan recognizes Yu San from the beauty pageant. While walking, Yu San drops a packet and quickly kicks it away in hopes that no one notices. When Qing Chuan investigates, she smells gun powder. Just as she is about to go and investigate further, Fu Jin and other court ladies come and they ask her how Yin Reng could suddenly demote her after treating her so well for so long. Another lady then replies that men only care about the new and not the old and after a while every flower loses their bloom. Fu Jin tells them to shut up and then spies Qing Chuan who is forced to leave her hiding place. Fu Jin then introduces her to the other ladies and then pushes her into a nearby pond. The court ladies all laugh and abandon Qing Chuan, who apparently cannot swim.

Feng Shao Feng, Yang MiQing Chuan calls for help and a man passing by hears her and immediately jumps in after her and saves her. Once they are safely back on solid ground, the man smells himself and it not pleased. He demands to know who Qing Chuan is and how she could manage to fall into a pond with such a big yard. Maids then pass by and calls him 8th A Ge (Ba A Ge – meaning he is the emperor’s eighth son – he has at least 18 of them). Hearing his title, Qing Chuan looks at him closely and realizes that he is the prince who fights over the throne with Yong Zheng. She is surprised at how young he appears. She grabs him and looks at him closely and he shakes her off. He then tells her that if he had known that she was to be his brother’s second wife, he would have left her to die. Qing Chuan stops him and asks why and he tells her its because a materialistic person such as her self has no reason to live. Ouch. Qing Chuan stops him and asks how she is materialistic. Yin Si then asks why she got close to his brother, why Tai Zi thinks she is a fairy, and why she demanded to be the first wife. Qing Chuan says nothing and the prince takes her silence as agreement and goes to leave. Qing Chuan grabs his arm slaps him hard across the face, shocking Yin Si. And that is where the episode ends. Does the girl have a death wish to insult a prince like that?

Back to Ji Hoon, the tire samples from the other truck reveal that it possibly was near an old metal factory which is also large and isloated – the perfect place for Ahn to do his dirty work. Ji Hoon’s team looks at a map and finds a metal factory near the interchange where the vehicle was spied earlier.

Ahn goes after Da Kyung with a chair, but she manages to doge. In their struggle, she manages to gain control of the chair and smash it into Ahn. While he is down, she runs off again. Back at the prosecutor’s office, the police offer is getting nowhere. Woo Jin tells him to take a break and she sits down with Ahn’s father. We learn that Ahn’s father has even witnessed his son murdering at least one of the girls. Woo Jin then gets him to confess the location of where his son takes them in hopes of getting to Da Kyung before it is too late.

Yi Han overhears the police scanner telling the location just as Ji Hoon’s team tell him the location as well. Ji Hoon is already at the site and goes on to find Da Kyung who has managed to make it outside. Ahn is in his truck and begins playing a cat and mouse game with Da Kyung who is trapped with nowhere to really run to. She manages to keep dodging the truck, but Ahn also purposely misses as he is really having fun with the game. Da Kyung hears the sirens and stands still. Yi Han watches as the truck gets closer and closer, but before it can hit her, out comes Ji Hoon in his borrowed car. He gets between Da Kyung and the truck, saving her life.

Yi Han opens the truck door and checks Ahn’s pulse. Ahn is still alive and Yi Han calls for a doctor. Da Kyung approaches the smashed car and looks inside. It is empty and there is blood on the steering wheel. We then her Ji Hoon (who is okay with a minor head wound) ask if she is okay. Da Kyung looks at him with tears in her eyes. He keeps repeating the question and Da Kyung finally shakes her head and starts bawling. Ji Hoon doesn’t know what to do, especially when she comes to him and hugs him while crying. Yi Han then comes up and puts a blanket over Da Kyung before giving Ji Hoon a thumb’s up and telling him “nice timing.” Ji Hoon then begins patting Da Kyung’s back.

Da Kyung then wakes up in the hospital where we hear news that Ahn was arrested. She then recalls Ji Hoon coming to her rescue. Ji Hoon then says she is one tough girl. After all she went through, all she has is scratches. He then asks if she has brain damage. Before she can say anything, her father comes in. Da Kyung tries to keep up the ruse of being a doctor in the hospital, not realizing that he already knows. He then begins hitting her, but Da Kyung refuses to quit. Her father then says that after what happened to her sister, he can’t bear for Da Kyung to work in that field. He breaks down and cries and Da Kyung criesm, too saying that she will work even harder because of what happened to her sister. Father and daughter hug while Ji Hoon watches on. You can tell that he is really affected by witnessing that.

The southern branch team, minus Sook Joo, are all excited believing that they will get reinstated to the main branch in Seoul since they basically cracked the kidnapping case. I wouldn’t hold my breath. Myung Han shows up and asks where Da Kyung and Ji Hoon are. He is told that they are still being treated at the hospital. Myung Han then thanks everyone for working hard to raise the NFS’s reputation and securing the 50 million investment. That was all. The southern branch members are horrified that they have not been relocated to the main branch. They ask after Woo Jin and her promise, but since she is in trouble, too, she can’t help them.

Woo Jin seeks out Ji Hoon. The two go for coffee where Woo Jin says she was the stupid one who let Ahn go for the arson case. She felt she was blinded by her ambition. If only she had her eyes open, then maybe she could have prevented at least the last murder. Ji Hoon states that it wasn’t her fault. No one could have known. Woo Jin then asks if he remembers how they first met. We then flashback to the past at a batting range where a unhappy and frustrated Woo Jin kept missing. Ji Hoon saw that and intervened. He then stepped in to coach and help her. Woo Jin says that since he was the first one to help and guide her, that is why she fell for him. Ji Hoon wants to leave, but Woo Jin then has one more question. Why did Ji Hoon go to the factory when the police were en route. Ji Hoon says because he was responsible for his colleague. Woo Jin then leaves, but you can tell she doesn’t really like that answer.

Myung Han arrives at Hong’s office, but is unhappy as soon as he sees Ji Hoon is also there. Hong asks for Ji Hoon’s immediate promotion to the Seoul branch. Myung Han then says that Hong must really like Ji Hoon. Hong then says that Ji Hoon has quite the reputation in Japan and he wishes Ji Hoon to go there to work on a similar case. This makes Myung Han happy to think he can be rid of his problem. Ji Hoon refuses the return to Seoul and the trip to Japan. The southern branch is in a bad state due to lack of equipment and staff. Ji Hoon also says that he alone didn’t solve the case, it was the hard work of the team. Myung Han tells him to stop, but Ji Hoon continues complaining that if they had everything they needed, they could have stopped the killer sooner. Hong then decides to help the southern branch as his favor to Ji Hoon. There goes the money Myung Han wanted for the main branch alone.

Afterward, Myung Han says that it is all over. Ji Hoon says that it isn’t. Myung Han asks if he still sees him as only a professor and Ji Hoon replies that there is only one boss at the NFS and that was Jung. It won’t be fun if the game stops here. Ji Hoon will continue on with the battle against Myung Han.

The southern branch crew are elated to find out that they will be going back to Seoul, although they wonder why Myung Han is so wishy washy with his decisions. Apparently the southern branch is getting revamped and new staff so they are to relocate to the Seoul branch. Da Kyung packs up her office and goes to visit Ji Hoon next door but he isn’t there. Where is he? He is visiting Jung before he leaves. Jung says that it won’t be easy to work under Myung Han. Ji Hoon is surprised that Jung already knows about his reassignment. Jung then asks if it has been 20 years since Ji Hoon’s father’s death. Ji Hoon was in middle school. Jung didn’t believe that Ji Hoon would really become an ME, but here he is and he has stuck it out. Ji Hoon is not sorry he chose this path and swears to continue as an ME until he dies.

Ji Hoon arrives back at the Seoul branch and you can tell he has a lot of mixed feelings. He goes back to his old office and slips the nameplate back in and moves the magnet to show he is there (I assume as I can’t read Korean). He opens his door and sets his stuff down and begins unpacking. The first thing that gets put out is his picture with Jung. Da Kyung then pops in and says that she is in the room next door. She asks if he needs help and he just asks if she is okay. Da Kyung replies that she is and asks if he is okay. He then tells her that if she is okay, she needs to stop talking and leave. Nothing has changed on that front it seems. Ji Hoon is then called out to start his schedule.

On his way to his morning autopsies, he runs into Myung Han and his lackey. Myung Han congratulates him on his return and then arms him to be careful. One more reckless action and Ji Hoon will be fired. Ji Hoon then says he will not allow the same thing to happen twice. Which means that Myung Han better be on his toes.

We then cut to a club where two men are shot. Looks like it will be the next case handled.

Myung Han is in the car where he hears the news of a party choosing their presidential candidate. He then meets with Jang who asks after Ji Hoon’s reassignment. Jang then says that since Hong is a scholar, he things he can rule uprightly. Jang then introduces Myung Han to a new figure. Who is? Kang Joong Hyuk. Myung Han seems shocked to meet him. Ah, Kang is the one whose daughter killed Seo, not Hong’s daughter. I got that confused earlier. Myung Han knows that Kang must be calling him out for something important. Kang says that he is right and asks Myung Han to help him one more time, and help Korean and the NFS as well. Kang tells Myung Han that he will get everything he has ever wanted if he helps. Omo. I really hope that Myung Han grows a concious before it is really too late.

When Myung Han leaves, Jang gives him the rundown. Two gunshot victims will be coming in. The story is that it was an illegal Russian gun and a fight among gangsters. A shooting occurred and one ran away. Myung Han says it is well constructed story. Jang says that is because it is the truth. A well-constructed truth then. So Myung Han needs to paint the mice and make sure the autopsy conclusion matches. He ten says that Ji Hoon will be out so he can’t interfere.

Ji Hoon and Da Kyung arrive in Japan and Ji Hoon asks Da Kyung why she followed him to there. Da Kyung says it was on the chief’s orders. Ji Hoon can call and ask and then shout at the phone about not needing a newbie assistant, or he can yell at her and tell her to get lost and leave again. Ji Hoon says that since she knows already, she can just leave. Of course Da Kyung doesn’t and Ji Hoon then stops and asks why the sudden change in plans. They were supposed to leave the next day, but had there trip sped up. Da Kyung replies that it was supposed to be at Vice Minister Hong’s request. Yep, Ji Hoon does know there is something fishy.

Da Kyung is enjoying her first trip to Japan and acts more as a tourist than as a professional. While taking pictures, she accidentally sees Ji Hoon changing clothes. Shocked, she accidentally takes a picture of him in his polka dot boxers. She hides herself when a representative for the Korean embassy shows up and listens in on the conversation. The Japanese don’t want interference from Koreans as it might cause international tension between the two countries. Da Kyung then jumps in and asks if the skeleton is Korean, why should the Japanese be doing the autopsy.

Back in Korea, Woo Jin who is suspended is playing a video game. She is getting her butt kicked when Yi Han shows up and tells her what to do, but not in time. She asks what he is doing there and he says he is on probation for accidentally putting an NFS ME in a killer’s car. He invites her to a barbecue place. It turns out the place is his house. Woo Jin asks if Yi Han likes her but he adamantly says no. Woo Jin agrees to stay for dinner and as the two go to enter, the chief prosecutor comes out. Needless to say Woo Jin is shocked to learn that Yi Han’s dad is her former boss and the chief prosecutor.

Back in Japan Ji Hoon asks if Da Kyung is spying on him. Da Kyung denies this saying she was just sight seeing when she overheard the conversation. She then asks what Ji Hoon will do. Back at the NFS, the gangsters are brought in. Jae sees this and asks what is going on and he is told that it is an emergency autopsy that was just brought in. Joo then unceremoniously kicks Jae out who was in the room only to collect samples from an earlier autopsy. He definitely detects something fishy. Thus the autopsy starts and Myung Han watches from the observation room.

In Japan, Ji Hoon and Da Kyung arrive at the place where the Korean skeleton is kept. He asks if she has a camera and she replies that she does. Ji Hoon then tells her to go and take pictures of the skeleton while he distracts the guards. Ji Hoon does manage to distract them, but Da Kyung is spotted by a Japanese ME who was working when she snuck into to the room where the skeleton was kept. As she begins to take pictures, she is interrupted by the Japanese ME.

Back in Korea, the autopsy wraps up as expected. Myung Han asks Jang if all the bullet casings from the crime scene were collected and disposed of. Jang says yes. Myung Han then asks if the other person was caught. Not yet. If they don’t find that person then the whole setup will be exposed.

Ji Hoon tells Woo Jin that nothing will be finalized until he gets the bodies back to the lab to examine, but it looks like all four skeletons have also suffered from being hit by a car. Back at the main NFS headquarters, Myung Han learns that skeletons were found on a farm near the southern branch. So the crime has already been solved. His lacky points out the big mistake that Myung Han made and asks what will happen now. Myung Han then says that he gave his life to the NFS. He then says that it doesn’t matter who solved the case as long as it was solved as that is an ME’s job. Not what I expected from him.

Back at the crime scene, Yi Han requests to join the special investigative team but Woo Jin refuses as he is a lone wolf and doesn’t like to work with others and it takes team work for that stuff. Woo Jin then asks Ji Hoon to go to Seoul to the main prosecutor’s branch. Ji Hoon looks at Da Kyung and then turns to leave. Da Kyung calls out and asks to go along and assist, but Ji Hoon tells her to stay and man the branch in his place. Da Kyung is very disappointed and Yi Han tries to comfort her because they are both being left out of the serial killer case.

Yi Han and Da Kyung head back to the Southern branch and Yi Han asks if she needs to go to a hospital. Da Kyung says she’ll be fine and then says it seems he would be the one in most need of a hospital. He says he is fine an that he manages to get beaten every day and survive. Da Kyung tells him good job and then invites him in to the office to get treated. The two are quite alike and form a bond (after beating each other up). They even complain about how hard things are with Ji Hoon being a jerk and Woo Jin being a cold woman who ignores people. Yi Han then grabs a bottle of alcohol and the two begin to drink in commiseration of not being able to help with the case, though Da Kyung was reluctant at first.

Back at the main prosecutor branch, the prosecutors are reluctant to say that it is indeed a serial killing even with the evidence and Ji Hoon’s verification. Myung Han then comes in and admits his mistake in saying that it was a simple hit and run. He has later found that his victim was also just like the other six found in the south. The prosecutor then says that a different team will take over as they cannot trust the NFS who made such a mistake. Myung Han then apologizes and points out that despite his grievous error, it was still and NFS ME who found the serial killings. He then requests that the NFS remain involved in the case and even asks that Ji Hoon be put on the special investigative team. Omo, this is just too weird. What is going on is definitely hard to figure out. Isn’t Myung Han supposed to be keeping Ji Hoon away from Seoul?

Afterward, Myung Han approaches Ji Hoon who chides him for being blinded by 45 million. Myung Han then says that he remembers when he first met Ji Hoon – even interviewed him for the position. Myung Han says that no matter what has happened over the years, he has remained dedicated to the NFS. Ji Hoon then replies that Myung Han has never done anything to the NFS, everything he has done has been for himself. Ji Hoon then interjects once more that he will prove that he was right a year ago still and walks away.

A briefing goes on and Woo Jin is interrupted and told that the main suspect (the farm owner) has been arrested trying to flee. She then instructs the team to do their best to find the evidence to convict him.

Back at the southern branch, Yi Han and Da Kyung tease each other about the fight. Yi Han chides Da Kyung for being so violent and she justifies that she was terrified and wanted to defend herself. She then teases Yi Han for being so fragile when she elbowed him. He states that he wasn’t outside or the one that grabbed her. The two then realize that the person who touched her was more than likely the accomplice or the culprit. The two then hurry to try to get back to Seoul but there is three hours until the next bus and no police cars are available. Yi Han then calls the arson suspect to give them a lift. The three then speed on their way to get to the NFS to tell them about what happened an to turn in Da Kyung’s coat to see if they can get DNA from it. Yi Han gets a call from HQ and has to report for duty and can’t go so Da Kyung must make her way on her own.

Back at the NFS, Ji Hoon divies up the tasks for the special team in order to find the real culprit. Myung Han’s lackey is upset by this as Ji Hoon does not appoint the most senior people in charge of the case. Ji Hoon then says that the people he chose all are top notch and the leaders in their field despite their lack of experience. Myung Han tells him to stand down, but he is still not happy. The suspect then confesses that he murdered the girls to Woo Jin and when Ji Hoon is told, he says that they still need to find the evidence to substantiate the claim. The meeting is adjourned and Jang shows up wondering just what Ji Hoon is doing at the main NFS branch.

Jang tells Myung Han that the opposing party in the presidential election is spreading strange rumors about Hong and Seo Yoon Hyung’s death. Myung Han tells him not to worry as the Seo case was already taken care of. Jang says they still cannot afford to have Ji Hoon there to help solidify the rumors and make a scandal. Jang also says that it is all his doing that Myung Han got the position as head of the NFS. Myung Han then makes a threat of his own and assures Jang that he will never let Ji Hoon fly.

Da Kyung gets to the NFS branch just as Ji Hoon exits the building. Da Kyung immediately tells him that she might have important evidence – her coat might have been touched by the culprit. Ji Hoon takes the coat and tells her to go back. Da Kyung then explains that her little sister died at the same age as the victims. She expects this to make him let her help, but it has the opposite effect. He says her personal emotions will get in the way and blind her to crucial evidence. Da Kyung asks if it is not personal for him as he want so beat Ji Hoon, but he jus tells her to leave while he is being nice. Da Kyung then remembers that the man was left handed as his watch was on his right hand. Our arsonist then offers to take Da Kyung back to the southern branch (I have a feeling that he might be the real killer – despite his appendicitis alibi, plus why else would he still be hanging around the NFS headquarters?).

Inside, Ji Hoon washes his hand and looks at wear he wears his watch an then looks at the bag that contains the coat. Before he does anything, he is called in to start examining the skeletons. And the medical team begin doing their thing. Back at the police station Yi Han goes and grabs bread from another officer’s desk after being scolded by the chief. Yi Han then sees a map and puts two and two together. He connects the arson case to the serial killer as where the bodies are found match the areas where the fires are. Yi Han asks for advice from a senior who says that serial killing and arson can be related. The senior then points out that all the arsons are centralized around one location. Our poor Da Kyung is really in trouble it seems. You’d think Yi Han would realize this as the person he suspects of arson is the same guy who gave him and Da Kyung a ride and also has a truck identical to the killer’s.

While investigating the skeletons, the also reinvestigate the corpses of the three victims, and realize that Yoo is different from the other victims. Yi Han confirms this in his investigation by going to the one place that was a little off in regards to the others. Back at the NFS, one of the team talk about a serial killing in Italy where a man started a killing spree all because of one girl who rejected him. Talking with Yoo’s mother, he learns that she lived once where the other girls did. Yi Han asks if there was anyone who had a grudge against her daughter and Mrs. Yoo remembers an obsessed high school classmate who even set a fire to try to lure her daughter out. Alarm bells then start ringing in Yi Han’s head. Uh Oh.

Back at the NFS, the team notice similar marks on the bodies and on the bones. Ji Hoon then remembers the left handed remark of Da Kyung. He picks up a hammer and goes to strike a team member and the team member instinctively goes to protect with his right arm. That’s why there are those wounds on the victims. Ji Hoon then calls Woo Jin and asks if the culprit is left handed and Woo Jin replies that he isn’t. Ji Hoon then gets a call from the cell phone reconstructor who sends the picture that the last victim’s cell took. At the same time, Yi Han sees the yearbook with the arsonist’s picture in it. Ji Hoon sees the cell photo and realizes that Da Kyung has one off with the killer. He puts in a desperate call and tells Da Kyung that she is with the killer.

Our arsonist (who had been grilling Da Kyung about being an ME, the farm, and seeing the suspect), then turns and smiles at Da Kyung before hitting her in the head. Back at the NFS, the prosecutors, special investigator’s team, and the police come together to discuss the kidnapping and everything else. Woo Jin then realizes that Ahn (the arsonist) is the same guy that she released for lack of evidence. Gotta love how everything comes back more connected and twisted then ever. Yi Han then barges in and gives information about Ahn and the new stuff he learned from Yoo’s mother. Apparently the initial culprit is really Ahn’s father – that’s why he confessed. Woo Jin’s old boss then bawls her out for letting the man go. The investigation goes public and after the debriefing, Myung Han then says that Ji Hoon will have to answer for Da Kyung’s kidnapping.

Yi Han chases after Woo Jin and asks if she is okay. Woo Jin doesn’t want to deal with him and Yi Han then says that it is his fault that Da Kyung was put in danger as he was the reason she was in the car. Meanwhile, Sook Joo is channel surfing trying to find out what is going on with the search for Da Kyung. As Ji Hoon is leaving to go ).back to the southern branch, he runs into Da Kyung’s frantic father. Afterward, he borrows a sunbae’s car and rushes off to find Da Kyung himself (getting updates from her team and recalling information from the initial investigation). Now it’s a race against time to get to Da Kyung before Ahn kills her.

Ahn’s car has been spotted and Ji Hoon and Yi Han and all other forces are rushing to get there. Da Kyung wakes up , her hands are bound and she struggles to free them with no luck. Then in walks Ahn (I love this actor from Pasta and Call of My Country). Ah complains that Da Kyung is not his type, so he is wondering what he can do to have fun with Da Kyung. She screams and ask why he killed the girls and he says there is no reason for them to die, they just do). Da Kyung says that she will get him and he says that she will die before she can. Da Kyung finally manages to free her hands and hits him in the head so they have matching wounds. She says that she won’t let him kill her and runs out. Ahn looks after her, blood dripping and smiles. Looks like Da Kyung is fun prey for him.

Ji Hoon recalls what Da Kyung said earlier about the victims not getting to live their lives and he repeats over and over again that she must live. Back at the farm, our crazy Ahn (a very convincing actor), gets in his truck and tries to run down Da Kyung). Will he succeed? Don’t know that’s where the episode ends.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Even though I had a feeling since episode 5 that Ahn was the killer, wow. A lot of stuff is definitely going on and things are getting more complicated. Who knew that Ahn who was released for lack of evidence (mainly just because Woo Jin was p*ssed that she didn’t get a promotion), would end up not only being an arsonist, but a serial killer?
