Love Buffet Episode 10 synopsis/summary - Taiwanese Drama Love Buffet (愛似百匯 / Ai Si Bai Hui)

SYNOPSIS

Fuuko (or Fuu-chan for friends) is a lively girl starting her first year of highschool. Her life is turned upside down by the arrival of her new neighbors: the bishōnen Shinpo cousins, Daiya and Ichi.

Fuuko initially falls for the playboy Daiya. Unfortunately, her first love is an unrequited love. Daiya claims he does not know what 'being in love' feels like. Suffering from her first heartbreak, she receives unexpected support from Ichi. Although he seems cold, Ichi actually is in love with Fuuko. The two spend more and more time together, and Fuuko discovers she has feelings for Ichi too. Only 'official' confessions away from being a couple, a woman from Ichi's past shows up. Iori-san used to work for the Shinpo family company. Back then, Ichi had fallen in love with her (even though she had a boyfriend, and was some years older than him). His infatuation was big enough to worry his parents, who had her fired. Now that she's back in his life, Ichi's feelings turn to her again. Not even his budding relationship with Fuuko can lessen his need to be with Iori. Fuuko can't deal with this and they part ways. Fuuko is heartbroken again, but this time the pain runs much deeper. Her love for Ichi was more serious than her former crush on Daiya. Ironically, it's Daiya who supports her through these hard times. Ichi spends his free time with Iori, and Daiya tries his hardest to distract Fuuko. Slowly, Daiya is beginning to understand 'what it is to be in love', as he is falling in love with Fuuko. But she can't return his feelings, she is not over Ichi yet. At New Year, Daiya asks Fuuko if she wants to go out with him. Taking a fresh start, Fuuko accepts. Meanwhile, Ichi says goodbye to Iori, as he finally understands she only sees him as a little brother, while the one she really loves is her boyfriend. Fuuko and Daiya are getting along fairly well as a couple although sometimes Fuuko thinks of Ichi, remembering her lost love for him.

Then at the end of Volume 14, Fuuko is speaking with Ichi in the classroom when she falls and they accidentally kiss. Although the only person who saw was Fuuko's friend, Fuuko is extremely worried about Daiya finding out as she can't work up the courage to tell him honestly. She goes to see Ichi and begs him not to tell Daiya that it happened. Ichi agrees, but the cousins have a misunderstanding which leads Daiya to realize that something happened between Ichi and Fuuko. He finally confronts Fuuko about it and asks her why she didn't tell him from the beginning. Afterwards, they have a fight and don't talk to each other. The next night Fuuko comes out of her window and sees Ichi. They start a conversation, but as they were talking, Daiya sees the two of them. He hides behind a car and thinks that Fuuko still has feelings for Ichi. Daiya, the next day, asks Ichi about any romantic feelings between Ichi and Fuuko, which causes a fight between the two cousins. Later, while Daiya is at work he is hit by a truck and is rushed to the hospital. Meanwhile Fuuko is making a knitted cap for Daiya.

Although at the point Fuuko doesn't find out about the accident, she soon does and makes her way to the hospital with the knitted cap. Daiya is confirmed to be fine, but gets angry at Fuuko accusing her that she still has feelings for Ichi. Fuuko throws the knitted cap at him and claims that she doesn't know what her feelings are at this point but when she was knitting that cap all she thought about was Daiya.

The manga continues with the three friends continuing to be friends and getting along once again. At this point of the manga it leaves of with the secretary of student council seen to be copying Fuuko previous day's hairstyle. Guessed to be because of jealousy of Fuuko's friendliness of the two boys. The manga has recently begun to continue the plot from this point onwards.

Episode 10 synopsis/recap/summary:

Yi Cheng and Xiao Feng are sitting together on a bench outside the apartments. Yi Cheng is holding the broken mug and staring at it. He asks if Xiao Feng remembers the mug. When she nods, he tells her that it was Ying Zhi’s mug. Yi Cheng then talks about their first meeting at his grandfather’s company where he and Da Ye were forced to work. It was the first time seeing a girl smile made him smile. Ying Zhi would come and work with him when he was busy still working late at night. He started to fall for her even knowing that she had a boyfriend (he found out when he saw her crying on her birthday). It didn’t matter to him as he was even more captivated by her and spent as much time with her as he could. Needless to say his grandfather was not pleased when he found out about Yi Cheng and Ying Zhi seeing a lot of each other. His grandfather is displeased with Ah Yi’s behavior when the whole company is talking about the two of them and Yi Cheng seems more lost and distracted at work.

Yi Cheng is sitting unhappy in his chair at work when Ying Zhi comes with her mug and and a bright smile and offers to get him a cup of milk tea. He stands up and thanks her. Yi Cheng never could find the courage to confess his feelings and then one day Ying Zhi had disappeared without a trace. So now all he has left is that broken mug as a token of his feelings to keep Ying Zhi in his heart. We come back to the present and Yi Cheng tells Xiao Feng that then he met her. Watching Xiao Feng like Da Ye, Ying Cheng thought they were the same. He never thought that Xiao Feng would actually be braver and stronger than he was. He liked that side of her. Yi Cheng then admits that the person he is right now will still like Ying Zhi the moment he sees her. He then tells Xiao Feng that feeling needed by Ying Zhi and wanting to be by her side is what he wants. Right now he is not sure what to call the feeling. He puts the mug back in the box and walks over to the trash can. He looks back at Xiao Feng and says he wants to show what her really feels, wants to forget the old and start with the new. Yi Cheng then throws out the mug. About damn time! Yi Cheng then apologizes to Xiao Feng.

Xiao Feng thinks back on all their happy moments together and realizes that the relationship has now officially come to an end. She then says that after all that brief period of liking him and being together, all that she is left with is heartbreak and that she is sorry to see it end. There were too many problems that she and Yi Cheng were not able to find the answers to in order to keep their relationship. Xiao Feng walks away crying where Da Ye waits to hold and comfort her while Xiao Feng apologizes to Yi Cheng in her head that she can do nothing but listen to his apologies.

Back at school, Xiao Feng is the last student left in the classroom (with a totally disastrous just rolled out of bed hairstyle) trying to finish the test. Her teacher tells her that she must stop writing and turn it in, but you know Xiao Feng just isn’t ready to. Afterward she goes and meets the waiting Da Ye and complains about the person who said if you try something you’ll be successful. Da Ye says it doesn’t matter because that person probably wasn’t talking about those two anyways. They then go off to eat and pass two girls who wonder just what Da Ye can possibly see in a girl like that. Of course Yi Cheng comes up right at that moment, too. He tells them that he heard that both of them confessed to Da Ye and were rejected and walks on. Well, not the wittiest retort, but nothing like pointing out that it is just sour grapes over their rejection.

Yi Cheng comes up to Da Ye and Xiao Feng in the cafeteria and Da Ye invites him to sit. Looks like they are trying to go back to their original threesome relationship (wait, that sounds totally wrong – I mean back to their original three-way friendship – whatever, it just doesn’t sound good whatever way you put it). Anywho, when Yi Cheng sits down, he comments that Xiao Feng’s hairstyle must be modeled after a chicken. LOL. Yes, he did say that! Da Ye laughs at that and Xiao Feng complains. They are back to normal for the most part. Talking, bickering, and sharing food. Xiao Feng is surprised that their relationship has gone back to the way it originally was so quickly. Now the distance between them doesn’t seem so far and there is only friendly feelings. Xiao Feng recalls Yi Cheng’s throwing out the mug and knows that he is still seeing Ying Zhi every now and then, but she won’t be sad over it or cry over it anymore. Good for her.

Da Ye stands outside with the overly happy Ah Ji who says that the year is really filled with love and hope. So ickily in love he is with Qiu Ying. Da Ye turns and asks if Ah Ji is happy. Ah Ji says he is as Christmas is a lover’s holiday. Da Ye says that is right and gives a big sigh. Ah Ji asks what is wrong – doesn’t Da Ye have plans with Xiao Feng. Da Ye says he does not as he doesn’t want to add to Xiao Feng’s stress. Ah Ji is surprised that Da Ye is bugged by such a “small” matter. He then calls Da Ye blind. Da Ye asks what Ah Ji means and then says that he will tell him a secret. Ever since Da Ye confessed to Xiao Feng, their relationship has had zero progress. Da Ye wants to take it slow, but is afraid that if there is continue non-improvement, then he and Xiao Feng will just stay as normal friends. Ah Ji smiles and says that this is Da Ye’s punishment (way to be a friend!). Ah Ji then compares Da Ye’s previous dating to Doraemon where you open the door and you’re already there (not quit sure I get what Ah Ji means). Da Ye asks what kind of joke that is and says that Ah Ji is annoying, Da Ye then asks what can he do. Ah Ji says that chasing girls cannot be taught and that you need skills. Ah Ji then clasps his hands together and says that God has been good to him in allowing him to spend Christmas with the girl he loves. This gushiness annoys Da Ye and he asks Ah Ji to ditch Qiu Ying and accompany him at Christmas instead (lol, like Ah Ji would do that). But this gives Da Ye and idea. Ah Ji has no idea what Da Ye is talking about, but Da Ye is happy at the thought about “spending it together” – what plot has he up his sleeve (well, actually, I already know Smile with tongue out)?

And we don’t have to wait long to find out. Da Ye and Ah Ji have planned a Christmas party! And they have expressly gone to Xiao Feng’s class to invite everyone there. Ah Yi looks less than thrilled, but no surprises there. When Da Ye is about to announce the location of the party, Yi Cheng drags him away, leaving poor Ah Ji to finish the verbal invitation and hand out the fliers with the location. Yi Cheng then asks his cousin just what he is doing. Da Ye replies that he is helping everyone throw a Christmas party (well, that was a no-brainer). That way everyone would be happy. The party will be held at Da Ye’s and Yi Cheng’s grandparents’ house. Ah Yi asks if Da Ye has gotten permission first and Da Ye tells him not to worry as he has already asked their grandfather who has agreed. Da Ye then asks Yi Cheng to come as Yi Cheng shouldn’t have anyone to spend Christmas with (ouch!). Yi Cheng tells Da Ye not to worry about it. Ah Yi isn’t free that day as he has to work. Really?

Xiao Feng pulls Da Ye aside and asks if it is really all right to have so many people at his grandparents’ house. Da Ye tells her not to worry as his grandfather likes to be surrounded by people and constantly throws parties himself. Xiao Feng then says that even if everyone doesn’t come, there could still be 30-40 people. Da Ye then smiles and tells Xiao Feng that he used everyone (nothing like admitting your master plan to the girl you hope becomes your girlfriend). Da Ye then says he wishes to celebrate Christmas with Xiao Feng and thus used the party as an excuse. Xiao Feng just stares at him blankly and Da Ye then confesses that he really wants to spend Christmas alone with Xiao Feng (how sweet!). This seems to surprise her (I don’t know why as Da Ye has made his intentions and feelings perfectly clear). Xiao Feng then smiles, looks like she’s happy about it when she finally thinks of it.

At the party, grandfather is totally in his element, flirting with the young girls (in front of his wife no less). Xiao Feng arrives and is immediately greeted by the grandparents who are happy to see Xiao Feng once again. Grandpa Xing compliments Xiao Feng’s appearance and goes to hug her, but Rose (Grandma Xing) stops him and sends him away to play with electronics while she and Xiao Feng go to the kitchen to cut fruit (lol, she is already treating Xiao Feng like a daughter-in-law). In the kitchen, Rose tells Xiao Feng that Da Ye is like his grandfather and arbitrarily hugs girls – don’t take it personally. Xiao Feng smiles and says she won’t. She then says that Da Ye and Jack (Grandpa Xing) are really alike – both warm, totally the opposite of Ah Yi (what a thing to tell his grandmother!). Rose then asks which grandson will Xiao Feng pick. Xiao Feng asks what Rose is talking about and Rose says that she can tell the sweet feeling like she once had a long time ago in the past. Rose then says that it doesn’t matter which one Xiao Feng chooses as no matter what, Rose will be happy for her. But, still not letting go, Rose asks who Xiao Feng would seriously choose if she had to choose between the cousins. Rose then goes on to say to choose the one who will be with Xiao Feng the most. Choose the one who you can love 100%, but who will love you 150% (Da Ye wins that hands down as Yi Cheng still can’t give his all thanks to Ying Zhi). That is Rose’s prescription for happiness.

Afterward, Xiao Feng is staring listlessly while holding two Christmas ornaments. Her friends ask her what Rose said to her as Xiao Feng has been acting weird ever since. Is it because Yi Cheng isn’t there? At this time, Da Ye then comes over in a Santa suit and tells the girls to go over and eat and not just stand around the tree. The girl’s then say they’ve already eaten their fill (their stomachs are bulging). Her friends then complain that Santa is so skinny and Da Ye jokes back that they should be saying they have never seen such a handsome Santa before. Da Ye then compliments Xiao Feng, saying she looks like Snow White (which isn’t a bad comparison to me), but this irritates Xiao Feng and she says that Da Ye has no idea how to compliment girls. Xiao Feng then says Da Ye should call her a very cute snowman. Da Ye then says she is very cute, embarrassing Xiao Feng and sending her two friends away to give them some couple’s privacy. An embarrassed Xiao Feng asks if the band is going to perform and Da Ye says no as Ah Ji is absent due to today being a very special day – a day with love.

Qiu Ying and Ah Ji are out walking and he is trying to take her hand, but can’t bring himself to do it. Qiu Ying then says that today doesn’t feel like Christmas and then says that she is very happy to be spending the night with him. Their awkwardness is too cute.

Back at the Xing house, Da Ye announces the lighting of the Christmas trees and everyone goes outside and there is a countdown and then the backyard it lit up and fireworks go off. While everyone is ooing and awwing, Da Ye smiles and Xiao Feng and mouths if it is good. Xiao Feng agrees that it is and smiles. Da Ye just stares and smiles and we flashback to him telling Xiao Feng that he wanted to spend that Christmas with her. We then have an inner monologue by Xiao Feng talking about warm feelings and how all boys and girls together look really cute. We also get to see Qiu Ying take the initiative to hold Ah Ji’s hand (she does it so naturally without a hint of awkwardness). Everyone wants to be happy, not lonely. We then cut to Yi Cheng who is on a bus and sees Ying Zhi happily with her boyfriend, spending Christmas Eve together while he is all alone. Yi Cheng then says he had almost forgotten that Ying Zhi could have such a happy side – something you only get to see when she is with Eason (how horrible for him, but then again, he chose that love).

Back at the party, everyone is happy and playing a confession game to see who can earn a louder “eh”. Xiao Feng’s friends want her to go and tell her story, but Xiao Feng refuses and then Yi Cheng walks in. The party gets really quiet. Yi Cheng smiles and wishes everyone a Merry Christmas. Yi Cheng asks what game they are playing and tells them to go back to it. Da Ye and the other classmates invite Ah Yi to go up and confess. Ah Yi does and looks at Xiao Feng, making the atmosphere awkward once again. Everyone wonders if he will confess to Xiao Feng. Yi Cheng then confesses that he fell in love with a not so great girl at the same time an outgoing guy did. Yi Cheng was determined to win the girl, but they never replied to his emails or anything. Yi Cheng then confesses he fell for Michelle Obama (I kid you not!)! Needless to say, he earned quite a few “ehs” for that story because everyone thought he was talking about Da Ye and Xiao Feng. Da Ye smiles and says that he thought Yi Cheng had to work. Yi Cheng says he forgot something and came to get it – but then his eyes stray to Xiao Feng again and Da Ye does not look to thrilled by this. After a pause, Da Ye puts on a smile and starts the game once again.

In his room, Yi Cheng pulls out and unfolds Xiao Feng’s drawing. This guy is so annoying in the way that he can’t let go. First he keeps Ying Zhi’s mug forever and now he is holding on to Xiao Feng’s picture. Is he regretting throwing Xiao Feng away to pursue Ying Zhi who will probably never give him a chance to be anything more than a confidante and friend?

Everyone has migrated outside once again and Xiao Feng is complaining about all the couples and the romantic atmosphere. Da Ye says that Xiao Feng is probably wishing that Yi Cheng was next to her now instead of him. Xiao Feng then asks since when has he been so petty and low. Da Ye replies that even he has those moments and he is jealous – isn’t that love? Xiao Feng says that back when she “liked” (ouch – still past tense) him, those words would have been nice to hear. Da Ye gives her a surprised look and Xiao Feng then says if only she had liked Ah Yi back when he started liking her. She then says that all she has are these thoughts of “if only.” Xiao Feng blames bad timing, or unright moments. Xiao Feng then turns to Da Ye and asks what she can do to glitter and shine like him. Da Ye says he is not a Christmas tree. Da Ye then asks how his jealousy can be glittery and shiny? Xiao Feng says that he is bravely shining. She admires that as he is more brave than she is. All she can think about is what should she do, she always hesitates, is always afraid of getting hurt, is always that weak. Da Ye says that if Xiao Feng says that in her eyes he is brave, glittery and shining, then she must be referring to herself because in his eyes there is only her (gag me on the sappy corniness, but the sentiment is nice).

After Christmas, Ah Ji is at the water fountain with a goofy smile on his face. His good mood is interrupted by Da Ye who calls out that someone should call the police as alcohol is coming from the fountain instead of water. Ah Ji agrees that he is drunk as this is the first time that he has a girlfriend and it is the school’s goddess no less (Qiu Ying is approaching behind him with a smile while he is oblivious). Ah Ji confesses more of his feelings and then Xiao Feng laughs and addresses Qiu Ying, making Ah Ji turn around embarrassed and he says that he didn’t say anything. Xiao Feng and Da Ye laugh and Da Ye asserts that Ah Ji is just drunk. Ah Ji then offers Qiu Ying the fountain while Da Ye continues to tease him about getting drunk.

Later, in her room, Xiao Feng takes out all the things that Yi Cheng gave her and decides that it is time to get rid of them. She throws them away, but then takes it all out again. Should she really throw it out when the items are innocent? Plus, there are a lot of good moments attached to the items. Xiao Feng, cleaning – literally, then recalls Yi Cheng throwing out the broken mug finally wonders if she does the same, will that signify that everything has come to an end? While she is busily cleaning windows, Yi Cheng arrives home and asks why she is suddenly cleaning. Xiao Feng tells him not to bother about her and asks if he is going to work. Ah Yi asks if she wants to go together as his boss says they need the extra help. Xiao Feng (inwardly) scolds him for asking her to do something together with her (which takes back all the things she has thought earlier about finally going back to being normal friends – because if she really felt that way, then she wouldn’t be so unhappy about him asking her to help) when she is trying so hard to finally shelve the old feelings. Xiao Feng says that she still has cleaning to do so she can’t go with him. Yi Cheng (smarty-pants that he is) asks if there is another meaning to those words (there totally is!). Xiao Feng says there is not and tells him to leave quickly before he is late for work.

Da Ye then comes up and teases her for putting her face against the clean glass. Xiao Feng tells him not to tease he and then asks if he is going out. Da Ye says that it is almost Ah Yi’s birthday, so he is going to buy a gift. He then asks Xiao Feng to help him get a gift for his cousin. They end up at a bakery where Da Ye complains that the cookies look like a gift for marriage. Xiao Feng says that the meaning is different. Da Ye then says a useful gift will be better (like pens or a notebook). Xiao Feng says that she doesn’t want to give him anything that will last and be kept as a memory. Da Ye says that Ah Yi could still keep the cookie box, but in the end, they still bought cookies. When wrapping them up, the lady asks what kind of ribbon they want and Da Ye is hurt a little as Xiao Feng, without thinking, says blue as it is Ah Yi’s favorite color. Yep, she can’t forget the guy.

Afterward, Da Ye asks what Xiao Feng is doing for New Years and Xiao Feng states that she has no plans, but she usually will go see fireworks. She doesn’t want to this year. A group of girls walk by and comment on Xiao Feng and Da Ye being a couple. Xiao Feng then recalls when the same thing happened with her and Ah Yi and tears up again (geez, she should just get over it already as her attitude is getting really annoying). Da Ye points out a food stall and asks if Xiao Feng wants one. Xiao Feng quickly wipes her tears and says that it will be her treat and rushes off to get to the stand. Da Ye follows quickly behind and grabs and kisses Xiao Feng! Da Ye pulls away and says that he will always be there to accompany her so Xiao Feng shouldn’t take Yi Cheng’s memories out with her (good advice!). He then holds her and says he wants to steal her. They are doing this in the middle of a crosswalk and the mood is interrupted by honking horns. Da Ye quickly pulls her away and lets go. He then goes to the stall and buys some fried fish for them.

Da Ye gives her the fish biscuit and she thanks him. She knows he is acting like nothing happened not to put pressure on her and make the situation awkward. When he takes out the fish biscuit, he tells her it is magic and can talk – it even has important words to say to her. He then has the fish ask her to date. Xiao Feng laughs at this and then Da Ye gets a very serious expression and asks Xiao Feng to go steady as he will make her forget Yi Cheng.

Back at the apartment, Xiao Feng sits in her room and recalls the kiss and Da Ye’s confession. Xiao Feng says that her heart feels heavy hearing the “go steady” confession versus Da Ye’s “I like you” confession. She goes to the window and opens it, looking up at the Xing apartment. She wonders if she should accept Da Ye and if she does, will it change anything?

New Years comes and Da Ye is spending it with Xiao Feng’s family! Xiao Feng’s mother tells Da Ye to eat up and the left overs can go to Ah Yi. Da Ye says that he doesn’t want Ah Yi to get any of the food and Xiao Feng’s mother makes a comment and Da Ye asks if that means that he is rival’s with Xiao Feng’s dad who says that Da Ye can take Xiao Feng’s mom and give him freedom. Mrs. Hu then jokes about getting divorce papers. Xiao Feng’s sister then wonders who she will live with and Da Ye invites her upstairs to live, thus Xiao Yi tells her parents to hurry with their divorce. Mr. Hu calls out that he was just kidding when Mrs. Hu comes in with the “divorce papers” – a tray she hits her husband on the head with. Mr. Hu then says that he will never divorce he as he loves him so much. Xiao Feng then realizes that she can laugh so much because the warm Da Ye is there.

We then cut to an unhappy Ying Zhi who is out with Yi Cheng. All she is doing is complaining about Eason breaking their New Year’s date. She hugs Yi Cheng’s arm and says that she is lucky she has him or she will be lonely and pathetic. Yi Cheng stops and asks what kind of relationship they have. Ying Zhi replies that they are good friends, why, what is wrong? Ying Zhi then replies that he had hoped they could be more than friends and tells her that he has waited patiently for her. Yi Cheng then tells her to call Eason as that is the person who makes her happy and who she wants to be with. Ying Zhi says that even is she wants to call him, she can’t because he is busy with work and she doesn’t want to interfere with that. Yi Cheng then scolds her for lying to herself and not telling Eason how she really feels and ask her boyfriend to spend more time with her and be more caring with her. Ah Yi then asks if Ying Zhi is afraid Eason will leave if she demands too much from him. Yi Cheng then asks is that why Ying Zhi keeps coming to him – because he never rejects her. Ying Zhi replies that she had never used him. Ah Yi then says he knows that – it is him that used her. At one time, he believed that he really liked her. Over time the line became blurry – did he love her or just like the fact that he was needed by her. He has finally figured it out! He doesn’t really love her wanting and needing isn’t the same thing as loving. He then says that this will be the last night they see each other until things are completely cleared up. Ying Zhi is still wishy washy and Yi Cheng says she needs to stop suppressing her own feelings as everyone needs to face them and chase their own happiness. Ying Zhi finally works up the courage to call Eason as she doesn’t want to run away anymore versus talking things out and letting him know. Ying Zhi thanks Yi Cheng and he says that he should thank her instead. The two hug and he wishes her happiness. It is finally over (too bad it’s too late – or is it?).

Yi Cheng rushes off and says he doesn’t want to lose Xiao Feng’s smile. He wants to be able to bring her happiness and return to her side. While Yi Cheng rushes to meet Xiao Feng, she and Da Ye are having fun playing around with the kids and shooting off fireworks as the countdown begins. Ah Yi has realized it too late as Xiao Feng is realizing that Da Ye can give her the feeling of happiness, so going out with him should be the right answer, right?

Da Ye goes to head back up to his apartment, but Xiao Feng stops him. He asks what is wrong and she says that about what he asked her the other day. She tells him that she still has Ah Yi in her heart and she doesn’t know how long those feelings will linger. Xiao Feng then says that she will be brave and try to get rid of her feelings completely so that she can face Da Ye. Da Ye asks what Xiao Feng is saying and she bows and holds out her hand. Da Ye rushes down the stairs and holds her while Xiao Feng thinks about how she liked him once and how she will like him again (almost like she is forcing herself which is fair to no one). Yi Cheng, of course arrives at this moment and sees this. But since he is still in her heart, he shouldn’t just give up, right? But knowing his personality, he probably will.

The next morning, Da Ye and Xiao Feng give Ah Yi his birthday present. Ah Yi is definitely upset that he got such a lame gift. Xiao Feng says that those cookies are famous and have even been featured in several magazines. Da Ye tells his cousin that if he doesn’t want the cookies, then Da Ye will take them. YI Cheng quickly says that he will keep them and Xiao Feng says (inwardly) that she knows they are talking about her and not cookies. Yi Cheng forces a smile and then thanks them. Da Ye then tells Xiao Feng that he is going to tell Yi Cheng. Da Ye then confesses that he and Xiao Feng are together. Yi Cheng’s smile dissipates, but her forces it again and says that he knows. A very awkward situation for the trio.

Yi Cheng sits alone in a park and flashes back on the past few moments with Xiao Feng and Da Ye, and himself. Poor guy. But he did bring it on himself (just like Da Ye did).

At school the next day, Da Ye asks if Xiao Feng wants to eat with him. Xiao Feng happily nods and Ah Ji says that he can’t make it. Da Ye then says he wasn’t asking Ah Ji along as well – only Xiao Feng. Da Ye then announces to their friends that they are officially a couple now. This surprises their friends, and makes them happy as well. They are congratulated and they asks when that all happened. Da Ye then says he will take good care of Xiao Feng (corny as ever). Then there comes Yi Cheng and when Xiao Feng sees this, she takes Da Ye’s hand off her shoulder. Noticing this, Da Ye gets annoyed and puts his hand back on her shoulder. Seriously – how horrible!

In the bathroom, Xiao Feng asks if Da Ye would be upset. Her friends say that even they felt awkward. Xiao Feng says that it was subconscious and that she did not do it intentionally. Her friends then tell her to go and apologize. Xiao Feng finds Da Ye who looks upset and the two leave in an unhappy silence. Xiao Feng says his name and Da Ye stops and turns asking if he is going too far and taking their relationship too seriously? Should he back off? Da Ye is stupid for agreeing to date Xiao Feng when she is not over Ah Yi and Xiao Feng is stupid for agreeing to date before she is officially over her ex. Xiao Feng also has a horrible habit of never saying what she means and exacerbating the situation. She tells Da Ye that isn’t true at all and that she just isn’t used to PDAs like he is. Total burn. Nothing like turning the tables on Da Ye’s old habit of casually touching and kissing girls. Da Ye then says that they meant nothing to him and that Xiao Feng is the only one still caring about the past. Xiao Feng gets angry and says that she has never lied to him and then complains about how he said he would help her forget the past and now says all this stuff. Da Ye turns and walks away and Xiao Feng goes to follow, but stops as his back is so sad and he isn’t turning around. She then starts walking an stays a few steps behind.

When they reach the apartments, Da Ye says he will think about what just happened and goes to go upstairs. Xiao Feng grabs his sweater and it rips. She apologizes and Da Ye turns around where she bows and apologizes again. She apologizes for acting like she is all that just because he confessed that he liked her and then she said all those awful things. When she goes to apologize yet again, Da Ye stops her and says that he should be apologizing as Xiao Feng was honest that she would need time to completely forget Ah Yi. Da Ye then sits down and says that he likes Xiao Feng too much and is rushing things. Da Ye takes her hand and says that they should just take things slow. Xiao Feng smiles and agrees.

Back in her room, Xiao Feng is painstakingly trying to sew up Da Ye’s hoodie that she ripped. She thinks about how fragile and easily breakable their relationship is at the moment, but then she also thinks about how when Da Ye goes to leave her, she will quietly hold on to him (is that affection – no – it is plain selfishness actually). Xiao Feng says that she wants to go forward and takes the sweater up to Da Ye, apologizing for its ugliness, but he doesn’t care.

Xiao Feng is with Qiu Ying who is knitting arm warmers for Ah Ji. Xiao Feng compliments her skills and Qiu Ying mentions that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and then asks if Xiao Feng wants her to teach her how to knit. Xiao Feng says there is no need for that and Qiu Ying asks how things are progressing in Da Ye’s and her relationship. Xiao Feng confesses that she isn’t dating Da Ye because she likes him (poor, poor Da Ye), but because she wants a fresh start. Xiao Feng then asks if she is being selfish, should she really be dating Da Ye, and can she give him happiness. At least she knows that she is being selfish. Qiu Ying says that whether or not Xiao Feng can give him happiness is up to Da Ye, but Xiao Feng caring like that shows that Da Ye’s importance is increasing in Xiao Feng’s heart. The two may not have the best start, but they are heading in the right direction, which seems to assure Xiao Feng that she made the right decision.

Back at the apartments, Xiao Feng is playing Red Light, Green Light with the kids and when she looks behind Da Ye is suddenly there playing as well. He comes up to save the kid who got caught and Xiao Feng catches him just as a taxi pulls up. Xiao Feng says that he is in for it now when Da Ye says “mom.” Xiao Feng asks who he is calling mom and says that him saying that is no use. Da Ye then smiles and walks towards a woman. Looks like Da Ye’s mother has officially arrived. Havoc will break loose. But not until the next episode.

Episode 5 synopsis/recap/summary:

Xiao Feng runs away when she sees Da Ye and the upperclassman, but Da Ye runs after her. He tells her that there is nothing between he and the other girl and Xiao Feng cries and says that has nothing to do with her anymore. She doesn’t care what he does or with who and this just stuns Da Ye who can’t believe that his good friend is saying this. Later when she is eating with her two friends, Xiao Feng complains about Da Ye’s behavior with girls and how his rejecting her hasn’t seemed to effect him at all. Her two friends disagree with this and say they believe that Da Ye is sincerely hurting over rejecting Xiao Feng and her running away from him and treating him so coldly.

Back at the Hu apartment, Xiao Feng thinks this over sitting on her windowsill looking up at the Xing apartment. Is Da Ye really broken up about rejecting her? Is she really being inconsiderate of his feelings? Yi Cheng comes and asks what she is doing peeping and Xiao Feng nearly falls out of the window. Yi Cheng catches her and complains about how heavy her empty head is before helping her sit up. Xiao Feng tries to defend herself, but can’t think of anything and we get to see a rare Yi Cheng smile as he says her inability to think of a comeback proves how empty her head really is. Xiao Feng notices the bag in his hand and changes the subject. Yi Cheng replies that the bento is his dinner and Xiao Feng asks why isn’t Da Ye cooking. Yi Cheng then tells her that Da Ye hasn’t cooked or cleaned in a long time. He just comes straight home from school and locks himself in his room. Xiao Feng then recalls what her friends were telling her about Da Ye always looking at her since the rejection with a sad expression. So Da Ye is really hurting and regretting it. Duh, anyone with eyes can see that.

While Da Ye sits morosely in his room, Xiao Feng takes out her Da Ye stalking book and goes over all of the good memories they had. All of the good really does trump the bad and she comes to realize that it wouldn’t be a bad thing to try to go back to how things were. It won’t be easy, but she doesn’t want to hurt and doesn’t want Da Ye to hurt either anymore. So the next day at school, Xiao Feng throws open the curtains she kept closed for so long and calls out to Da Ye to meet her. They go up to the roof and Xiao Feng asks if he was upset when he thought she liked Ah Ji. Da Ye replies yes. Did he try to go out with other girls to forget the hurt of rejecting her – yes. So Xiao Feng calls him an idiot for rejecting her and then says that she wants to be friends again. She then borrows his shoulder (more like his chest in this case) like he borrowed hers when they went to the beach after he rejected Qiu Ying.

Later, Yi Cheng goes back to the classroom to find Xiao Feng sleeping. Does she ever do anything in school that actually revolves around learning? The first few episodes she either sleeps or stares at Da Ye. Seriously. Yi Cheng smiles and goes to touch her to wake her up, but she then says Da Ye’s name in her sleep. Poor Yi Cheng. So instead of waking her gently he kicks her desk. That’s the usual Yi Cheng for you being the meanest when he wishes to be the nicest. Xiao Feng immediately jumps up and yells “earthquake!” Yi Cheng says yes it was an earthquake in his sarcastic glory and then tells her everyone else is already gone so they should leave to. Yi Cheng then starts out the door with Xiao Feng yelling at him to wait for her (which he does outside the classroom) so they can walk home together. On their walk, Yi Cheng asks her if going back to the way things were with Da Ye means she’s giving up. Xiao Feng says she thinks that will be best given the situation and Yi Cheng then brings up how her dictionary didn’t have such a word in it before. Xiao Feng then says her dictionary has been revised. Give up is now in it, but it isn’t the hopeless “give up” but rather the good kind. At least Xiao Feng has learned to let go instead of pining and scheming to get someone like what happens in a lot of dramas.

Xiao Feng also promises to work hard during their school break and Yi Cheng says her break sounds very lonely. Xiao Feng asks how she will be lonely when she has her friends Da Lin and Xiao Sen and if all else fails, she has Yi Cheng to play with. Yi Cheng doesn’t say anything and Xiao Feng asks if she can’t still find him to hang out with and Yi Cheng finally answers and says that she can. He will accompany her wherever she wants to go. Again, another cheesy line, but that is almost verbatim from the manga as well. Cheesiness in shoujo drama and manga? Not so much of a surprise. Just like the main couple (not that this drama technically has an official main couple as it is Xiao Feng’s fate to be bounced back and forth between the cousins) can never have peace and must go through trial after trial. Xiao Feng seems a little uncomfortable with Yi Cheng’s declaration. It looks like she is finally understanding more and more that he does like her.

As they continue walking, Yi Cheng asks very offhandedly if Xiao Feng wishes to go with him to see a live band performance (Ah Ji is performing). When she doesn’t answer right away, Yi Cheng immediately says she doesn’t have to go if she doesn’t want to. Xiao Feng immediately says she will go and Yi Cheng arranges to meet her outside her door at 7. Awww, it’s like a date! Yi Cheng is prompt and waits for Xiao Feng who shows up looking rather cute and the two smile at each other. But Yi Cheng’s smile fades when he notices that Xiao Feng isn’t wearing his hair clip that he bought her in the last episode. Xiao Feng asks if she looks weird and Yi Cheng replies that she doesn’t. Xiao Feng then understands that he’s looking for the clip. She tells him that she was afraid it was too expensive and she didn’t want to lose it. Goes to show she isn’t quite ready to accept his feelings yet.

As they get ready to head out, Xiao Feng then says she invited another person along – who? Qiu Ying jie. Why? She felt weird being alone with Yi Cheng, plus Qiu Ying wants to see Ah Ji perform. Needless to say Yi Cheng is less than thrilled. Qiu Ying tries to diffuse the situation and asks if Yi Cheng remembers her and he says he can’t forget such a fake person. Burn! Xiao Feng scolds him, but Qiu Ying doesn’t take it to heart. The three continue on to the performance where Yi Cheng stands isolated from the two girls looking unhappy. Qiu Ying wants to know why she was told to come along and Xiao Feng confesses she feels awkward around Yi Cheng now. Qiu Ying then encourages Xiao Feng to go for Yi Cheng because he seems to like Xiao Feng and is not a bad person once you get past his cold exterior and his barbed comments. Qiu Ying then excuses herself and leaves the two alone. When Xiao Feng slides up next to him, Yi Cheng notices her wince and asks what is wrong. She tells him that she is wearing high heels so her feet hurt. Yi Cheng calls her a dummy. Which actually seems to be a favorite comment for Aaron Yan. He called Lucifer a dummy all the time in Pi Li MIT. Actually, Aaron Yan, like fellow bandmate Jiro, seems to be typecast in a certain role he can’t escape from. His role? Playing the strong, cold, silent type who is usually a jerk to everyone around him. Gotta love it.

The two go outside where Yi Cheng checks out Xiao Feng’s feet. For a girl who felt awkward to be along with him, she dressed up a little cutely and even wore new shoes – isn’t that sending a mixed message even if she didn’t wear his hair clip? Yi Cheng says he will go and get bandaids to take care of her rubbed off skin and runs off, her shoe in hand. Xiao Feng watches him run with a smile as she can’t believe he’s in such a hurry that he even took her shoe. Of course the moment Yi Cheng leaves, Da Ye shows up with a friend to the live as well. Da Ye spots Xiao Feng and goes over. Xiao Feng freaks out and covers her hurt feet with her bag. Da Ye asks what is wrong with her foot and Xiao Feng says that it is cold and tells him to hurry up and go in as the live has already started. Da Ye then asks if she came along. Xiao Feng, for whatever reason, did not want to tell him she was there with Yi Cheng and lied that she came with a group of friends. She tells him to not keep his friend waiting any longer and Da Ye bids her goodbye, but you can tell he seems a little hurt and confused as he knew she was just trying to get rid of him. After he joins his friend, Yi Cheng rushes back with the bandaids. To make matters worse, Da Ye sees this. Poor guy.

Yi Cheng tends to her feet and Xiao Feng says it looks like she will have to go home as she won’t be able to do anything with the state her feet are in. Yi Cheng says it looks like that is all they can do and then he kneels down and tells Xiao Feng to get on his back. How cute! Xiao Feng is reluctant, but she puts on his backpack and takes her purse and climbs on. The two then start the walk home. Xiao Feng asks if he is angry and Yi Cheng says that he isn’t. Xiao Feng calls him a liar as she knows he is angry. She then asks if he is angry because she invited Qiu Ying. Yi Cheng then says that if she didn’t want to come, she could have just said so instead of asking a third person along. Xiao Feng then says it wasn’t that she didn’t want to go with him, just that she felt it was weird to go with him alone. Yi Cheng asks why that would be weird and Xiao Feng says it isn’t because he’s weird, but because it has to do with her, but she just can’t explain it well at all. Yi Cheng laughs and Xiao Feng demands to know what is so funny. Yi Cheng says her trying so hard to explain is amusing. Xiao Feng asks how it can be when she is being serious and Yi Cheng then asks what it is that she can’t tell him. Xiao Feng clams up and says it is nothing and Yi Cheng says that if she wishes for him to forgive her then she has to promise him something. Xiao Feng readily agrees and asks what and he just cryptically says she’ll find out the next day. Xiao Feng then asks if he will tell Da Ye about their “date” and Yi Cheng’s good mood is gone again and he says that he doesn’t report to his cousin. This reassures Xiao Feng. Dense girl! Can’t she see how she’s crushing Yi Cheng’s feelings with her thoughtlessness (not to mention Da Ye as well).

The next day Yi Cheng brings Xiao Feng to the okonomiyaki shop where he works. Xiao Feng wants to know what is going on and he tells her that they need extra help during the break. Xiao Feng asks if he thinks she can really do the job (she is such a klutz) and then says that if Yi Cheng can do it, then she can as well. True, Yi Cheng was a little clumsy at first. When his boss comes in he asks if Xiao Feng can take the opening and his boss wants to say yes, but she already agreed to interview someone else who called about the job. That someone else? Da Ye. Talk about awkward. I believe Yi Cheng’s thinking was that this job would get Xiao Feng away from Da Ye and then they could be together more often as well. The boss gives the two a trial day of work and whoever does the best will get the position. Needless to say, Da Ye is actually the better worker as Xiao Feng constantly forgets who orders what and the like. She despairs of being able to keep her promise to Yi Cheng. After a dismal serving performance, Xiao Feng throws out the trash and has pretty much given up hope of the job. When Yi Cheng comes out with more trash she immediately apologizes for making him lose face. He assures her that she didn’t and says that they will have to wait and see how the boss liked her performance, so she shouldn’t be too hard on herself. Xiao Feng then brings up the promise and apologizes as she doesn’t know if she can keep it if she doesn’t get the job. Yi Cheng is happy that she remembered she promised him something. Then out comes Da Ye who complains that the two are slacking off while he works diligently. Yi Cheng immediately starts bickering with his cousin and Xiao Feng is relieved to see that their relationship has gone back to normal again.

Xiao Feng goes back inside where she gets a tablefull of troublesome young mothers who keep asking for things not on the menu. They finally order and Xiao Feng says that she will have the cook handle it as the moms shouldn’t want the hotplate on with the kids there. The moms assure her that they’ll keep a close watch and that their kids are obedient. Xiao Feng reluctantly turns on the table’s heat and leaves. When she looks over again, on of the children is about to touch the hot plate. She quickly rushes to the kid and grabs him away to safety, causing him to cry. The women immediately jump up and begin arguing with Xiao Feng. Enter and angry Da Ye and Yi Cheng to her rescue and the angry customers leave and the three face the boss. Fearing the worst, they try to explain, but she shuts them up and applauds their unity. Customers aren’t always right and they were in the wrong this time for not keeping an eye on the children. What does this mean? It means that both Xiao Feng and Da Ye are hired! There goes Xiao Feng’s hopes to spend time away from Da Ye.

After work, Da Ye and Xiao Feng leave first as Yi Cheng still wasn’t finished cleaning the hot plates. After they leave, Yi Cheng gets a call from Zhi Ying and this time he ignores it. Is he finally getting over her? Meanwhile, Da Ye asks Xiao Feng about the concert. She tells him she left early and he says he saw her with Yi Cheng who also didn’t bother telling Da Ye he was out with Xiao Feng. Da Ye wants to know why they are keeping things from him. Xiao Feng immediately says she did it because he had just rejected her not long ago and she doesn’t want him to think she’s out with another guy so soon afterward. Da Ye tells her not to worry as he doesn’t think that she’s that kind of girl. Xiao Feng then realizes that she made a mistake and hurt both Yi Cheng and Da Ye. Took her long enough.

Feeling bad about making others suffer because of her, Xiao Feng’s thoughts are interrupted by water dripping down. She looks up at the ceiling and wonders what is going on. Shes goes up to the Xing apartment and notices that the door is open. She goes in and the entire floor is covered in water. She calls out for the cousins, but gets no answer. She then goes into the bathroom where Da Ye is lying in the tub unconscious. The worried Xiao Feng is afraid that something might have happened to him and rushes to check on him only to slip and fall into the tub (ah, the infamous tub scene – it’s worthy quite a few laughs, it would be even funnier if they put in the inane banter they had in the manga). Needless to say Da Ye wakes up when Xiao Feng lands on him and he asks what she is doing there. Xiao Feng apologizes and says that the water was left running and had dripped into the Hu house. Da Ye then says he fell asleep and didn’t turn it off and apologizes. Xiao Feng tells him its all right and goes to get up, but she slips back down on to him. Da Ye asks if she is okay and she says she is fine and she then asks if he’s okay and he replies that he is fine as well. Xiao Feng then tells him not to fall asleep again and finally manages to get up saying that she is going home. Da Ye goes to get up and says how can she go home like that, but Xiao Feng quickly puts out her hand and tells him not to get up (he forgot he was stark naked).

Xiao Feng didn’t go home to dry off and change and instead helped Da Ye clean up all the water and dry her clothes. It is still a rather awkward atmosphere, but falling into someone else’s bath can tend to make things awkward. The two are using blow dryers to dry the clothes. Da Ye gets up and gets drinks for them, which Xiao Feng spills on his lap and while trying to clean that off, Yi Cheng comes in. Definitely not a good thing. All he can see is Xiao Feng wearing Da Ye’s clothes and the fact that her hands were in a not good place a few moments earlier. He asks what they were doing and they both tell him not to misunderstand – Xiao Feng just accidentally spilled Coke on Da Ye. Yi Cheng then looks straight at Xiao Feng and tells her to never come to their place again. Ouch. Da Ye doesn’t like this and Yi Cheng says that Xiao Feng is a girl and shouldn’t be alone in a male’s apartment. True. Da Ye tries to diffuse the situation, but an angry and hurt Xiao Feng grabs her clothes and storms out of the apartment. That went over well.

The next day, both cousins are waiting outside for Xiao Feng when she opens her door. A nice awkward walk to work follows. Xiao Feng sits outside the cafe and when Yi Cheng comes out she tells him that his words really hurt her the other day. Yi Cheng doesn’t believe that he said anything wrong and Xiao Feng concedes that what he said may be right, but she has never once thought that either Yi Cheng or Da Ye are the king of guys who would try to take advantage of her. Yi Cheng then says that it’s all Xiao Feng’s fault for wearing Da Ye’s clothes. Yi Cheng then heads back into the restaurant. Aiyo, they are all at fault in this situation. Yi Cheng’s jealousy, Da Ye’s naivety, and Xiao Feng’s thoughtlessness.

Back at the Hu apartment, Xiao Feng has cleaned Da Ye’s clothes but is now afraid to return them as she doesn’t want to face Yi Cheng. She goes up to the Xing apartment, rings the bell, puts the shirt on the bench by the door and runs off. How mature. Yi Cheng opens the door and sees the shirt. He brings it inside and Da Ye asks who was there. Yi Cheng says he doesn’t know and then throws the shirt at Da Ye’s head saying that he won’t be eating. Yi Cheng then goes into his room to sulk leaving Da Ye mystified like always.

Meanwhile, back at the Hu place, Xiao Feng is asking advice of her sister about Da Ye and Yi Cheng. Xiao Feng is afraid that she will be seen as fickle if after being rejected by Da Ye she goes after Yi Cheng. Her sister tells her that it is good for her to get over Da Ye, plus Yi Cheng is a good man. Xiao Feng is upset to think that if you can’t get the one you really want in love then you go to the next one and so on and so on. Her sister says that isn’t necessarily the case and things are different with everyone and their individual relationships. Looks like Xiao Feng is starting to open up to the possibility of accepting Yi Cheng’s feelings. Her sister then gives her Da Ye’s pictures back. She rescued them after they got thrown away. Xiao Feng can’t throw them away again and decides to keep them. She goes to put them in her drawer, but drops some in her bag. You know they will cause trouble later.

At tennis practice the next day, Da Ye tells Xiao Feng not to worry too much about Yi Cheng’s attitude. He then reaches to take some dirt off of her face when Yi Cheng shows up. Of course he is jealous and angry again and yells at Da Ye to get to work as it is his day and then leaves. Xiao Feng goes to change and while she does, she sees a man looking over the top of the stall. She screams and in runs Yi Cheng (looks like he was waiting nearby the locker rooms for Xiao Cheng. She tells him about the pervert, and he immediately rushes to find him. He doesn’t and he comes back in and comforts a half naked Xiao Feng who is beginning to realize just how warm and kind Yi Cheng really is. He tells her to finish dressing and goes to leave when he notices Da Ye’s pictures. Great. Now he’ll continue to have the wrong idea.

Later that night Xiao Feng and Yi Cheng watch a movie on the rooftop and Xiao Feng is happy and excited to do something she hasn’t done before. This makes Yi Cheng happy. He then apologizes for the way he acted earlier. He goes to say something, but Xiao Feng cuts him off saying that she is happy the way things are and she wants them to continue being good friends. She then recalls how hurt she felt when Da Ye said the same thing to her after his rejection. And now she is inflicting that pain on Yi Cheng. He then confesses how he is willing to accept all of her, even the part that still likes Da Ye. Yi Cheng also says that he hopes that she will notices that he is always by her side as well. Meaning he is not asking for an immediate return to his confession or feelings. He takes Xiao Feng’s hand who uncomfortable withdraws her hands and asks him what she is supposed to say to that. Awkward. But you can tells he is getting closer and closer to accepting Yi Cheng.

Back at her house, Xiao Feng’s parents fight over which boy is actually better for their daughter. Her mother prefers Da Ye even though he hurt and rejected Xiao Feng and her father prefers the more stable Yi Cheng. More bickering from her parents. Xiao Feng goes back to her room and thinks about what Yi Cheng said. Can he really accept her even though she confessed to Da Ye? Xiao Feng tries to forget about these confusing thoughts, but can’t get them out of her head so she has a sleepless night. The next day a weary Xiao Feng is greeted by Da Ye. He finds out that she and Yi Cheng watched a movie together the other night. Xiao Feng says they did and that she didn’t really understand what was going on. Da Ye says it was an art film, definitely not something he or Xiao Feng would ever understand. He then notices her dark circles and comments on them. Xiao Feng looks away and thinks about how it is all his and Yi Cheng’s fault that she looks like a panda.

The two go to practices where Qiu Ying invites Xiao Feng on a vacation to heal their broken hearts. Xiao Feng, thinking on all her problems and deciding she needs distance from Yi Cheng to think things through, readily agrees. Da Ye overhears about the trip and asks if he can come. Qiu Ying tells him the purpose and asks if he still dares to come. Da Ye says he does and Qiu Ying says she has a condition. Xiao Feng doesn’t get to hear what it is, but up pops Ah Ji asking about the trip as well. When Xiao Feng goes to the station the day of the trip she is shocked to see Ah Ji and her two friends along with Qiu Ying. Xiao Feng asked what happened and Qiu Ying replies that it was Ah Ji’s big mouth. Enter the two cousins. So much for Xiao Feng trying to gain perspective away from Yi Cheng. Xiao Feng asks Da Ye why Yi Cheng is there and Da Ye replies that was Qiu Ying’s condition. Yi Cheng then tells Xiao Feng not to ignore him. He is basically only there so that Xiao Feng and Da Ye can’t have any alone time. How funny.

The group starts their vacation with a mixture of merriment and anxiety. At the barbecue, Ah Ji tries to get closer to Qiu Ying. How cute, he’s found a new crush. Qiu Ying sends him off to feed the others and tries to get Xiao Feng to feed Yi Cheng. Xiao Feng then confesses about Yi Cheng’s non-confession and this excites Qiu Ying who wants her friend to be happy and to find new love. Later, the group plays rock, paper scissors to decide on teams and Xiao Feng is in a team with Ah Ji and Yi Cheng while poor Da Ye isn’t in a team at all. Da Ye asks to trade places with Yi Cheng who refuses. Xiao Feng then changes the teams up herself. She takes Ah Ji and forms a team with Qiu Ying and forces her two friends to be a team with Yi Cheng. The straw bale rolling competition starts and Xiao Feng falls down. End episode.

Disasters never cease for Xiao Feng. What will happen next?

Episode 4 synopsis/recap/summary:

As the two get up to leave, Xiao Feng accidentally spills the contents of her bag and Da Ye sees the picture she kept hidden in her planner. Xiao Feng quickly grabs it and tries to explain what it is, but Da Ye immediately jumps to the wrong conclusion. The main focus of the picture is a guy from his class known as Ah Ji (who will become a regular cast member! Ah, how I love him in the KO series and he is also a member of the band Dong Cheng Wei). Xiao Feng cannot believe this, but when she looks at the picture once again, she sees how Da Ye could make this mistake. Da Ye then promises to help her out and play cupid. At first Xiao Feng is touched that he would do something like that for her, but then she is quickly horrified that the guy she likes is so quick to help her hook up with another guy.

The next day at the school cafeteria, Da Ye introduces the two and Ah Ji (in all his cute awkwardness) expresses his joy at having Xiao Feng like a guy like him. After the introductions, Da Ye bows out and Yi Cheng watches from above wondering what is going on. Ah Ji tries to tell Xiao Feng all about himself but she rudely gets up and walks away. Ah Ji follows her wondering why she is avoiding him. Soon Xiao Feng just squats down and cries. It really is her fault for not explaining clearly to Da Ye earlier. So even though her feelings are hurt, it is partially her fault (that and Da Ye’s complete stupidity).

Xiao Feng spaces out at a drink machine when Yi Cheng comes up and hits a button and asks her what’s wrong. Xiao Feng comes to and scolds him for doing that when she hadn’t decided. Yi Cheng puts more money in and asks her if she changed her mind. Xiao Feng absentmindedly says that she hasn’t even made up her mind on whether she wants orange juice or tea. Yi Cheng then says he means guys. He saw her with someone else earlier. Xiao Feng then explains the situation and Yi Cheng scolds her for letting things get so complicated. Xiao Feng says she couldn’t possibly reveal the truth and Yi Cheng said she could have used the excuse of holding onto the picture for a friend. Xiao Feng cannot believe how slow she was. Why couldn’t she think of that? Not its almost too late and Ah Ji is bound to be hurt. Then up pops Da Ye with tickets for Xiao Feng from Ah Ji. Poor Xiao Feng! Yi Cheng who can’t stand the situation anymore punches the vending machine and calls his cousin an idiot before walking away. Da Ye wonders what is up and Xiao Feng tells Da Ye that it was all a mistake and that the picture was a friend’s. Da Ye then gets why his cousin called him an idiot and feels really bad for doing that to Xiao Feng and Ah Ji. Da Ye then says the two should play cupid and hook the friends up, but Xiao Feng quickly makes such a convoluted excuse that it is a wonder if anyone could understand it. But the basis: poor Ah Ji is left with no one.

After having cleared things up with Da Ye, Xiao Feng tells her two friends what happened and they say they feel sorry for Ah Ji and then they begin making fun of him. Poor Xiao Feng tries to get them to stop as Ah Ji ends up right behind them and learns the whole truth. Poor Ah Ji. Her friends leave them alone and we have poor Ah Ji with his puppy face saying how is springtime has left as quickly as it had come. And here we have yet another person who knows of Xiao Feng’s feelings for Da Ye. Xiao Feng feels bad for hurting the gentle Ah Ji and gives him a box of milk. Ah Ji wonders if he drinks the milk, then will Xiao Feng consider dating him. Omo, how hilarious.

Back at the apartment, Yi Cheng gets a call from Ying Zhi – his unrequited first love? – and he seems less than thrilled. Ying Zhi tells him that she is in Taipei, too. She came with Eason (I am assuming that is her boyfriend). Great. So the girl Yi Cheng can’t get over is in Taipei, too. We will meet her soonish (episode 7). I hated the character in the manga just as I am sure I will hate her in the drama as well. Meanwhile, Xiao Feng is bathing downstairs and feels like she can understand how Da Ye feels when he rejects someone. She was happy that Ah Ji liked her, but she was sad that she rejected him, knowing that she hurt him. Xiao Feng then remembers that Ah Ji knows the true object of her affection and she immediately panics. She rummages through her desk after her bath and finds out that her student directory only has her classmates in it. She then goes upstairs and asks Yi Cheng to get the directory from Da Ye’s room. Yi Cheng refuses and Xiao Feng pleads with him as she is sure Da Ye wouldn’t mind. Yi Cheng points out that a person tends to mind when you go through their personal things. Xiao Feng then says she’ll do it herself and goes to enter Da Ye’s room, but is stopped by Yi Cheng calling her a thief. Yi Cheng then asks if Ah Ji seems like the kind of person who would tattle about such a thing. Xiao Feng doesn’t believe he would, but isn’t certain. Yi Cheng then points out that she can just talk to him at school. This makes Xiao Feng feel a little better. She goes and sits next to Yi Cheng touching his shoulders (invading his personal space a little) and thanks him. She says that he is just like a parent scolding his child. Meaning that he scolds because he likes her? Yi Cheng tries to get her to go back downstairs as he is getting uncomfortable by her proximity. When she refuses to leave and even tells him to smell her hair as her shampoo smells really good, Yi Cheng snaps and roughly grabs her arm. He yells and her and tells her not to forget that he is a guy, too. Xiao Feng then runs away, tail between her legs. She sits down on the stairs and tries to figure out just what happened. Why was Yi Cheng so angry? Ah, that would be another duh moment. There are so many in this series.

Da Ye then comes home with a pizza for them to eat, but Yi Cheng ignores him and turns on the TV. Da Ye comes over to the couch and turns it off and asks him what is wrong. Why was Yi Cheng so angry that afternoon? Yi Cheng says “if you don’t know how to fall in love, then don’t fall in love” and then comments about how he doesn’t want to be involved in their matters. Of course this makes no sense to Da Ye (who is, lets face it, pretty dense in a lot of matters). Da Ye thinks Yi Cheng is referring to the matter with Qiu Yun and Yi Cheng looks at him says he’s a retard. Seriously. Yi Cheng then tells him not to bother others which annoys Da Ye who then hits a little below the belt by making a sarcastic comment in regards to Yi Cheng’s first love. Yi Cheng then leaves the argument and goes into his room, slamming the door. Da Ye doesn’t really quite get why Yi Cheng is mad and I don’t think he even understands that he shouldn’t have thrown Yi Cheng’s failed first love back in his face. Aiyo, Da Ye.

The next day at school, Xiao Feng asks Da Ye how things were with Yi Cheng and Da Ye confesses that things are tense and he doesn’t understand why his cousin is so angry at him. Poor Xiao Feng feels like it is her fault that the two are fighting. She notices some graffiti on a post and points it out to Da Ye. It seems really random, but there’s a purpose. The two find Yi Cheng and drag him out to an overpass where they had painted their apology. The two then say they are pig heads and do a little bit of Super Junior’s “Sorry Sorry” song and dance. LOL, SuJu is EVERYWHERE!! And just like that, the atmosphere changed and things went back to normal. Yi Cheng ran up the hill with a spray can and began adding on while the other two chased him and told him to stop as it took a long time to do, but they had a great time adding to the apology and laughing.

That night the apartment block sets off fireworks and Xiao Feng is happily watching Da Ye play with the kids, but then begins to worry about confessing and the like. Xiao Feng wonders if she will only have this friendship with Da Ye or will things change? Can he accept her love or will he reject her as well? Yi Cheng notices her pensiveness and guesses what is wrong. He comes and sits by her and tells her that she is a good girl and very beautiful in his heart. Omo, the cheesiness. This is meant to cheer Xiao Feng up and get his emotions across a little bit, but the timing was definitely not the best. This leaves Xiao Feng uneasy and confused. Why should she be confused? Yi Cheng has done some things to hint already that he likes her in more ways than one. Da Ye then calls out for Yi Cheng and Xiao Feng to help clean up and Xiao Feng hastily leaves while Yi Cheng watches her. Of course, that night Yi Cheng is in a bad mood again and takes it out on Da Ye who cannot understand his cousin’s mood swings. I don’t blame him, Yi Cheng is quite moody at times. Da Ye asks why Yi Cheng is mad and Yi Cheng doesn’t answer. Da Ye then asks if Yi Cheng likes Xiao Feng. Yi Cheng, of course, won’t own up to liking her either and leaves to take a shower. The books on his shelf fall over and Da Ye goes over and sees a piece of paper sticking out. It is the picture Xiao Feng drew when she was a child. Knowing that Yi Cheng hides that which is most precious to him, Da Ye jumps to the right conclusion for the wrong reason. Yes, Yi Cheng likes Xiao Feng. No, Xiao Feng did not give the picture to Yi Cheng and nor did he hide it. Oh well.

At school the next day, Ah Ji says that Da Ye has no idea Xiao Feng likes him. Xiao Feng says “of course” as she hasn’t told him yet. Ah Ji commends her at being good at hiding her feelings (really? It is SO obvious to everyone except Da Ye that she likes him). Xiao Feng reminds him to keep his lips zipped and Ah Ji is surprised to hear that she still plans on keeping it a secret. Xiao Feng won’t keep it a secret forever, of course she’ll tell him (actually, she might have gone on like that if people didn’t keep chiding her for not confessing). Ah Ji says that as her ex (LMAO), he cares about her and doesn’t want to see her painful one-sided love. He tells her to bravely confess. At tennis she watches Da Ye play and Qiu Ying approaches her and scolds her as well. Xiao Feng say they are the same and Qiu Ying says at least she confessed her feelings while all Xiao Feng does is hide them in order to stay by Da Ye’s side. That is why Qiu Ying accused her of being sly. After practice, Xiao Feng practices hitting balls while wondering if she should really confess and face rejection or stay by Da Ye’s side as a good friend. Then in walks Yi Cheng. Xiao Feng says she wants to keep practicing and Yi Cheng says that she only joined the team because of Da Ye. He then tells her that he doesn’t think that she can take anymore. Xiao Feng snaps and says that she can still take it and then yells at Yi Cheng for complimenting her a few days ago and then harping on her then. Xiao Feng angrily stalks off.

We now have a softball match randomly out of the blue. It looks like Xiao Feng’s class versus Da Ye’s class. Xiao Feng is the pitcher and Da Ye is the batter. Xiao Feng winds up and Da Ye hits the ball and it smashes into her her ankle. Instead of running the bases, Da Ye quickly runs to the injured Xiao Feng (Yi Cheng just wasn’t fast enough as he was watching in the stands). The worried Da Ye doesn’t care that he is called out and carries Xiao Feng to the doctor who was monitoring the event. Da Ye holds on to her hand tightly while the doctor examines and treats her ankle. Afterward, the two are alone in the stands when Xiao Feng finally screws up her courage and confesses. Da Ye’s response? He is surprised and he woefully gives Xiao Feng the same answer he gave Qiu Ying. Poor Xiao Feng. She expected it, but it is still very painful to be rejected. Xiao Feng then apologizes which seems to make Da Ye sadder. He tells her that she doesn’t have to apologize. Xiao Feng turns her back so he can’t see her tears and then confesses that she didn’t mean to fall for him but what can she do know that she likes him? She then hobbles away on her injured ankle and Yi Cheng approaches. He heard everything. Da Ye asks him if he heard and then Yi Cheng punches him and leaves. Da Ye did deserve that for his own ignorance (in more ways than one).

Back at the apartment, Da Ye demands to know why Yi Cheng hit him. Yi Cheng says he doesn’t know, but Da Ye isn’t having any of that. Why did Yi Cheng hit him? Is it because he knew what Xiao Feng said? Yi Cheng again claims ignorance and Da Ye again insists on knowing why he was hit. Yi Cheng says that Da Ye is too much. He believes that Da Ye does know the difference between liking and not liking. Da Ye iterates that he knows no such thing. What if their ideas are different and they begin only to fail and get hurt farther down the road? So it has nothing to do with liking or not liking, just the fear of what will happen later if their feelings really don’t match. Yi Cheng says that is why he calls Da Ye stupid. He then warns his cousin not to forget that it was Da Ye who rejected Xiao Feng. I basically think that is Yi Cheng’s declaration of intent. Da Ye rejected Xiao Feng, so Yi Cheng is going to go after her now. Downstairs Xiao Feng cries and throws out Da Ye’s pictures.

The next day Qiu Ying and Xiao Feng go to a specialist for Xiao Feng’s ankle and Qiu Ying complains that Xiao Feng has no sense of timing and shouldn’t have randomly confessed. Xiao Feng says it is partly Qiu Ying’s and everyone elses fault that she confessed earlier than she meant to and had her heart completely shattered. The doctor tells Xiao Feng that the pain she feels now will be good for her later, but she doesn’t really get what he means. Oh well. Xiao Feng and Qiu Ying are officially friends now as they are in the same boat: both confessed to Da Ye and were rejected. Qiu Ying doesn’t want to admit they are the same and says she doesn’t want to be Xiao Feng’s friend, but she says there is something about Xiao Feng which makes others want to worry about her and take care of her.

The depressed Xiao Feng keeps the curtains closed in the classroom so she can’t see Da Ye, but heaven knows she keeps looking depressed in his classroom’s direction. Yi Cheng and her friends see this and wonder what to do. Her friends’ solution? Karaoke! Ah Ji hears of her rejection and felt responsible so he was going to take her away to cheer her up, but her friends stop this and Ah Ji, Qiu Ying, the two friends, and Xiao Feng all end up at karaoke together where the recently rejected sat depressed listening to ballads and crying instead of singing. Afterward, Ah Ji buys them snacks and Qiu Ying scolds Xiao Feng for her impromptu confession. Xiao Feng’s friend jumps up and defends Xiao Feng and then gets sad about how Xiao Feng isn’t snapping back and being her usual happy-go-lucky self. The other friend drags her off, leaving the three rejectees alone. Xiao Feng then cries saying how she blamed them for making her confess, but she knows it is not their fault. It’s all her own doing and she cries some more. When she gets home she notices that she missed three calls for Da Ye. The poor guy is as brokenhearted as she is and he was the one who rejected her feelings.

At school the next day, Xiao Feng runs into Yi Cheng who is carrying handouts again. She greets him and gets to hear him say how she is even more ugly after she cries. Xiao Feng scolds him for being so mean when she is so pitiable and Yi Cheng reaches into his back pocket and pulls out a hair pin for her. Xiao Feng is surprised and uncertain. Yi Cheng says it is nothing much, just something he bought from a little girl selling matches (how unbelievable is that). Xiao Feng knows that isn’t true and that he particularly picked it out for her. When she asks why she is suddenly getting a gift, Yi Cheng says it is a gift to make her happy. Yes, because nothing cures a broken heart like a new hair accessory, but at least you know he cares and he is already slowly and slyly making his own moves on Xiao Feng.

In the ladies room, Xiao Feng puts the clip on and admires it. But then she begins thinking about the time at the apartment where Yi Cheng announced that he was also a guy and the day of the fireworks when he said that she was beautiful in his heart. Yeah. Now she becomes worried that there’s a hidden meaning. She splashes water on her face and takes the pin out of her hair. She refuses to read into the situation, but now that though is there in the back of her mind. She leaves the bathroom and feels cheered by all those who are worrying about her while also feeling sorry that she is worrying them. She runs into Da Ye and turns and flees while he runs after her. Da Ye then asks why she is avoiding him. He hates the current situation and wants to go back to how they were before. This angers Xiao Feng who cannot bring herself to go back. Why? How can she smile with him and be happy when he rejected her? She then walks away leaving a pained Da Ye. She has every right to be angry, but she should also know the pain that Da Ye feels every time he rejects a person who sincerely likes him. And since this is his good friend Xiao Feng, you know it has to hurt worse.

At home, Xiao Feng’s family tries to comfort her. Xiao Feng says that it was a one-sided love so how can there possibly be a broken heart. Her father and mother then try to advise her, but start bickering like always. Her sister shuts them up and kicks them out and says that Xiao Feng needs to get back on her feet and stop hiding. Her sister believes that Xiao Feng should open herself up to the possibility of a new love to help mend the hurt of Da Ye’s rejection. Yes, open yourself up to Yi Cheng so he can break your heart later because of the mysterious Ying Zhi.

At school, Ah Ji confronts Da Ye. He accuses Da Ye of going around with girls to take his mind off hurting Xiao Feng and his own pain. Ah Ji is quiet, can be silly, but is really observant and smart. Yes, that is why Da Ye is being even friendlier with other girls. Xiao Feng is asked to open the curtains, but refuses since she doesn’t want to have to see Da Ye. The other classmates pressure her, wondering why she won’t open them when Yi Cheng comes in with an excuse that Xiao Feng will grow spikes and kill ugly, tanned girls. You have to laugh at his clumsy and absurd rescue. Later, Da Ye asks Xiao Feng’s friends where she is and they say the have strict orders not to tell, but her one friend leaks all the information anyways and Da Ye runs to the classroom only to find it empty. He collapses into a seat (is it Xiao Feng’s?) and an upperclassman sees him and reminds him about karaoke. Da Ye begs off saying his throat is sore and the girl comes up and checks his forehead for a fever when in walks Xiao Feng who gives him a pretty good glare.

Episode 3 synopsis/recap/summary:

Xiao Feng’s friends go to ask permission to use the tennis courts and we can see a little bit of Qiu Ying’s two-facedness coming out when she outright rejects them. But when Yi Cheng comes in and vouches for the human services department, hoping to score points, Qiu Ying agrees to let them use the court. At tennis practice, Xiao Feng finally manages to hit the ball and Da Ye comes over to congratulate her and to also tell her that now she needs to learn how to control her swing and not just smash the ball back. Da Ye notices her shoes and asks when she will buy proper tennis shoes. Xiao Feng then asks him to accompany her the next day to buy shoes since he knows more about that stuff. Da Ye agrees even though he doesn’t know much about women’s shoes and then enlists the help of Qui Ying who was passing by. This disappoints Xiao Feng a little, but nothing can dampen her happiness about going out with Da Ye.

Xiao Feng quickly enlists the help of her two best friends who tell her that what she wears is most important as the clothes give off the feeling of just what the date means to her. They then begin listing an amalgamation of different trends and styles that are currently “in.” The amazed Xiao Feng happily takes notes and you know right away that the girl isn’t going to pick one style and go around that, no she will incorporate all the different styles. Oy.

And boy do those styles look horrible together. Xiao Feng has loud patterns, a sweeping sun hat, floral print, animal print, dress, skirt, boots, weird accessories all in one outfit. Da Ye and Qiu Ying cannot believe the uniqueness of the outfit and stand there in shock for a little while before Xiao Feng notices how simply and beautifully Qui Yin is put together. She compliments this and Qiu Ying tries to return the compliment, but it is hard. The three then set off going to an exhibit first before going shoe shopping. Just as the performance is about to start, Xiao Feng goes off to the bathroom – unfortunately there are bathrooms as part of the exhibit and she wanders into one. Then the artists comes out and the show is about to begin. Qui Ying tells Da Ye that the artist blows up her pieces and Da Ye begins to worry when he notices the bathrooms in the exhibit. He then asks Qiu Ying if she thinks that Xiao Feng would go in that and Qiu Ying, knowing a little bit about Xiao Feng’s personality says that it is highly likely. Then start the major freak out with the fuse being lit and the explosions starting. Da Ye tries to get to the bathroom to save Xiao Feng, but is held back by security. Then the toilet flushes, effectively putting out the fuse and Xiao Feng emerges from the toilet as the center of everyone’s attention. Thinking that she was part of the exhibit, the crowd starts clapping.

Outside, poor Xiao Feng is horribly embarrassed. She feels that Qui Ying and Da Ye won’t want to be with her after making such a spectacle of herself. Da Ye comes back and tells her not to worry and the three then go to the shoe shop where Xiao Feng is again embarrassed. Why? The boots that she chose to wear were nearly impossible to get off. It took three employees, one to pull the boot and two to hold Xiao Feng down to get the boot off and when it comes off the three employees are sent sprawling and the shoe goes flying. This dampens Xiao Feng’s spirits even more, but Da Ye tells her to cheer up as he will make a special meal just for her. This perks Xiao Feng up and she quickly goes to put her new shoes in her apartment and change. When she goes upstairs, she sees Qui Ying touching Da Ye’s face, misinterprets and goes running out to cry in front of the building where Yi Cheng finds her.

The sobbing Xiao Feng tells Yi Cheng not to go up to his place as Da Ye and Qui Ying are there and need some private time. Yi Cheng then calls her an idiot and asks if she will give up before even trying. The two then go up to the apartment together where Da Ye says that it was all a misunderstanding, he just had tissue on his face. Da Ye, Xiao Feng, and Qiu Yun all go to prepare dinner where Xiao Feng hinders more then helps and she swears she heard Qiu Ying call her an idiot, but things she must be wrong. She is exiled to the living room where she at first thanks Yi Cheng for grabbing her arm and dragging her back and then while listening to Da Ye compliment Qiu Ying’s cooking skills and seeing Qiu Ying feed Da Ye, she changes her mind and yells at him for bringing her back, annoying Yi Cheng who tells her not to take her anger out on him.

The four then sit down to a disastrous dinner. Disastrous in that Qiu Ying takes over the lady of the house duties. Yi Cheng, who already can tell that Qiu Ying is not what she appears to be, dislikes her immediately and yells at her for acting like it was her place when it is his home. Really, he is doing that because he is upset that Xiao Feng is being hurt by Qiu Yun’s actions and perfection. Dad Ye tries to diffuse the situation, but they quartet end up eating in awkward silence.

The next day at school as Xiao Feng is complaining about feeling tense all over from last night’s dinner she witnesses Qiu Ying being confessed to. Qiu Ying classily lets the guy down and says they can be friends. The guy then happily goes off and Qiu Ying’s sweet smile disappears and she begins badmouthing the guy. Xiao Feng cannot believe her eyes and ears and leaves only to be spotted by Qiu Ying who then asks Xiao Feng to have breakfast with her. Qiu Ying then asks Xiao Feng if she likes Da Ye, shocking Xiao Feng who vehemently denies it at first. Qiu Ying then explains about her acting skills and this has Xiao Feng livid because she doesn’t like that fact that Da Ye is being lied to and misled by this girl. Qiu Ying doesn’t believe that she is doing anything wrong and even gives Xiao Feng pointers on how to catch men. Seriously. What woman gives a potential rival pointers?

On her way home, Xiao Feng is mired in thoughts about what Qiu Ying is doing to Da Ye when Da Ye offers her a ride home on his bike. Xiao Feng decides to tell him, but can’t bring herself to do it at the last minute. Instead, she decides to primp and become someone more like Qiu Ying. Not quite sure what I think about her method of dealing with the problem, but whatever. She immediately does all these new grooming things such as pinching her nose and wrapping her legs in plastic wrap (which I think is supposed to help with water retention and other stuff). The next day, she implements her new attitude, which annoys Yi Cheng at first, but then he tells her to keep it up as it is amusing watching her be so stupid. Xiao Feng was going to break her lady-like demeanor and chew him out when she notices Da Ye. She then throws her share of the handouts on top of Yi Cheng’s and races to talk to Da Ye who is already with Qiu Ying who is borrowing some CDs from him. As the two girls pass each other, Qiu Ying warns Xiao Feng not to tattle and Xiao Feng becomes glad that she did not inadvertently spill the beans earlier. She asks Da Ye what they were talking about and Da Ye immediately becomes concerned with how different Xiao Feng is acting. He then starts poking and tickling her making he smile and laugh. He then says she has a cute face and looks much better smiling. This makes Xiao Feng happy, but makes Qiu Ying (who was watching around the corner) less than pleased.

That night, Xiao Feng goes to Yi Cheng’s workplace and he asks her what she wants. She compliments how observant he is and says that he must want to know, Yi Cheng denies this and goes to walk away, but Xiao Feng says that he has to listen to her. Da Ye asks what is going on and Xiao Feng pulls out a book in which she is recording observations and the like about Da Ye (really stalkerish). She then opens a page and begins to read about how happy she was that Da Ye said her face was really cute. Poor Yi Cheng is forced to listen to her bubble over about Da Ye yet again. He yells at Xiao Feng for not being able to confess, while he can’t really seem to confess to Xiao Feng either. Yi Cheng then says it is getting late and asks if he should call Da Ye to come walk her home as it is dangerous to be out walking alone at night. Xiao Feng thanks him but says that it is not too late and that she can make it home just fine on her own. Gotta love how he will still take care of her and support her love even when he himself likes her. There are so many different types of love. We have the selfish love (often seen in dramas and what Qiu Ying is actually more representative of), innocent love (Xiao Feng who has her innocent beliefs and ideals), and the selfless love like Yi Cheng’s who doesn’t force his emotions on Xiao Feng and does his best to help her be happy even it it isn’t with him.

The next day Xiao Feng’s happy bubble is burst when she sees Da Ye giving Qiu Ying a ride to school on the back of his bike. Da Ye explains about accidentally injuring Qiu Ying while playing tennis. Xiao Feng immediately believes that Qiu Ying is being her two-faced self and actually is only pretending to be injured. Xiao Feng confronts her in the ladies’s room and Qiu Ying admits to lying and she says that as long as it brings her closer to Da Ye, then the bandage on her foot will never come off. Xiao Feng then tells her friends about what happened and they cannot believe how low Qiu Ying stooped. But the girls aren’t surprised to hear how two-faced she is as they had witnessed a bit of it themselves. They wish Xiao Feng good luck with her love as her rival is far superior in many ways. Xiao Feng is determined not to give up and hatches her own plan.

What is it? The next day Qiu Ying is shocked to see both Xiao Feng and Da Ye waiting for her. Xiao Feng lied about being concerned for Qiu Ying in hopes of coming between the two. It didn’t really work out to Xiao Feng’s advantage as she really is horrible when it comes to physical activity and she has problems keeping up with Da Ye and Qiu Ying. The day after that, it is Xiao Feng’s plan to make Da Ye his favorite breakfast. Da Ye keeps telling her about what sounds good and Xiao Feng keeps changing the order for her dad until at last Da Ye comes back to his initial decision. Xiao Feng waits outside with the sandwich only to have the bottom of the sack fall out and the sandwich hit the ground. She then runs back into the house and snatches the fried bread her dad was about to eat. Outside of Qiu Ying’s house, Xiao Feng is happy to hear that Da Ye is craving fried bread and takes it out of her bag when Qiu Ying comes out and apologizes for being late. Qiu Ying carries a 3-tier homemade bento. Da Ye immediately starts eating and complimenting Qiu Ying who is surprised when he asks for Xiao Feng’s fried bread as well. Sensing the somewhat tense atmosphere, Da Ye then asks the two girls to help him finish the abundant amount of food.

At the school, Qiu Ying thanks Da Ye for going out of his way to help her and Da Ye says it is the least he can do, but he is distracted by Xiao Feng who is having bicycle issues. Qiu Ying tries to keep his attention when a group of people walk by and talk about how the two appear to be dating. Qiu Ying says that she hopes the rumors of their dating won’t bother him and Da Ye says it won’t as it will never happen. Ouch! Talk about a slap in the face for Qiu Ying. Da Ye then abandons her to go help Xiao Feng who is struggle to put her chain back on. By Qiu Ying’s expression, you can tell she already knows she lost the battle.

In class, Xiao Feng’s two friends tell her to be brave and fight on as they will support her against Qiu Ying. Of course, the two girls turn chicken immediately when Qiu Ying shows up and calls Xiao Feng out to take her home. When the two girls get outside Xiao Feng again accuses Qiu Ying of being two-faced and Qiu Ying says that Xiao Feng is the same as she isn’t coming with Da Ye everyday just out of concern for Qiu Ying’s well-being. Da Ye then shows up and Qiu Ying asks to talk to him. Da Ya tells Xiao Feng to go ahead, but Qiu Ying insists she comes with them. In the park, Qiu Ying confesses and Da Ye immediately rejects her like he has rejected all of the others. Qiu Ying then confesses her duplicity and walks away. Xiao Feng who worries that Da Ye will do the same to her when she confesses, runs after Qiu Ying when she sees her limping. Looks like the ankle injury wasn’t a lie after all. Qiu Ying doesn’t want pity and then tells Xiao Feng that she is really clever as she can stay close to Da Ye as a good friend without ever needing to confess. Xiao Feng wants to help Qiu Ying home, but Qiu Ying keeps the last vestiges of her pride and walks away, tearful, but head held high.

That night, Xiao Feng asks her parents who confessed first and both parent asserts it was the other one, causing the two to bicker. Then Xiao Feng’s sister speaks up and says that it doesn’t matter who confesses first, all that matters is letting your true feelings be known. This seems to encourage Xiao Feng, but when she is back in her room, she keeps thinking about Da Ye’s rejection of Qiu Ying and what he said about not being able to seriously like anyone. Will it be any different when she confesses? Does she hold a little more of a place in Da Ye’s heart than Qiu Ying? She doesn’t know, but she is afraid to find out. Da Ye calls her up and invites her to the beach. Xiao Feng agrees to go as it has been awhile since she, Da Ye, and Yi Cheng hung out together. Da Ye says that it will be just the two of them.

When they get to the beach, Da Ye asks if Qiu Ying was hurt and if she cried. Xiao Feng says yes and you can tell how much that hurts Da Ye. You would think by now he would understand that it is also partly because of his own actions that girls start to come to like him. He is too nice, too good, and way too flirtatious. On the other hand, by seeing how he acts with other girls, how can any girl get serious about him? Xiao Feng realizes he is hurt, too, but he still doesn’t understand yet. What does it mean to like someone? How do you know if you really like them or if you just like them to be at your side? How do you know what love is? Da Ye borrows her shoulder for a moment and asks these heavy questions when our episode ends.
